AccuWeather Meteorologist Bernie Rayno breaks down why the Mid-South, southern Ohio Valley and Southeast stay hot this week, with Nashville and Charlotte near 100 degrees.
Transcript
00:00Last week, the core of the heat was across the desert southwest states.
00:04This week, the heat's going to be across the mid-south, parts of the Ohio Valley, and southeast.
00:10Just follow the high, the upper high. That's the heat pump.
00:14And this is going to sit here for the most part the rest of this week.
00:18Take a look at the upper level pattern as we go Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
00:21What are you focusing in on? Where the upper high is.
00:25Notice it drifting as we head toward Wednesday, Thursday along Interstate 40 toward the Asheville area.
00:31And then late in the week, it kind of migrates back to the west.
00:35So for the most part, it doesn't move all week.
00:39So where you're hot now, you're going to stay hot.
00:41Southern Ohio Valley into the southeast.
00:43But the core of the heat is going to be right underneath that upper high.
00:47For example, take a look at Nashville as we go through the rest of this week.
00:50At least through Friday and Saturday, you're right near 100 degrees.
00:53The other area, right into the western parts of North Carolina, including the Charlotte area,
01:00where you're going to be flirting with 100 degrees the rest of the work week.
