00:01Dhaka says Malaysia will hire around 200,000 migrant workers from Bangladesh over the next six months,

00:12Bangladesh Local Government Rural Development and Corporate's Junior Minister Mir Shahe Alam said

00:19the recruitment would be carried out by various agencies, the Daily Star reported.

00:24Mir Shahe said around 800,000 registered Bangladeshi workers are currently in Malaysia alongside some unregistered workers,

00:33adding that Dhaka had asked Malaysian authorities to register them.

00:37He spoke after Malaysia's High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Shuha Dar Othman,

00:43met Local Government Rural Development and Corporate's Minister, Abdul Mohin Khan.

00:48In June, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tariq Rahman visited Malaysia and urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim

00:55to consider reopening the labour market to Bangladeshi workers.

01:00Putrajaya has restricted the hiring of workers from Bangladesh since 2024 amid reports of debt bondage and forced labour.

01:09The government hopes to reduce foreign workers in Malaysia to around 10% of the total workforce by 2030.
