Chicken wings cooked with an energy drink sound wild, but this BBQ experiment turns Danny Duncan’s strawberry acai Matador Energy shot into a sweet and spicy wing glaze that actually works on the grill. John Barker seasons the wings with barbecue rub, adds extra saltiness with Hardcore Carnivore Black, then smokes them at 300° over cherry wood until they hit 165° internal.

The sauce starts with strawberry preserves, the full energy shot, and Skull and Mortar OG sauce, then gets whisked, boiled, and reduced until it thickens up. What begins as a weird food idea becomes a surprisingly fruity, savory chicken wing recipe with real grill flavor and a sticky BBQ finish.

For fans of grilling videos, chicken wing recipes, BBQ experiments, and unusual food challenges, this is a funny taste test with a simple backyard cooking setup. It also fits searches for energy drink recipes, sweet and spicy wing sauce, smoked wings, and food experiment content.

Ideal for viewers looking for BBQ cooking, grill recipes, chicken wings on the smoker, experimental sauces, and weird but surprisingly good food ideas. If you like grilling, backyard wing recipes, and creative cooking tests, this energy drink chicken wings video delivers a memorable food experiment with a strong BBQ payoff.

00:00My name is John Barker, probably the greatest pitmaster of all time. Nobody really knows,
00:04anybody can say it. It's all subjective. That being said, today I got a very special recipe.
00:10I got some of this strawberry acai matador energy drink from YouTube superstar Danny Duncan,
00:16and we're going to use it to make some of the best chicken wings you'll ever have in your life.
00:21Again, it's all subjective. Let's freaking go. The first thing we're going to do is make like
00:26the chronic and throw these bad boys backside up, and we're going to season them with your favorite
00:30barbecue rub. I'm using that skull and mortar OG rub. Once you got them seasoned, you're going to
00:35flip them over so the top sides up. That skull and mortar rub is available at skullandmortar.com if
00:40you're looking for it. And then we're just going to go ahead and give it a healthy dose of seasoning
00:43on the top side as well. Now I want a little extra saltiness with this, so I'm going to go
00:47ahead and
00:48use some of that hardcore carnivore black rub as well. I know it says it's for beef, but it's good
00:53on chicken too. Just give it a light dusting. Now's a great time for you to hit that like and
00:58subscribe as we're throwing our wings directly on the rack. We've got our smoker set at 300 degrees
01:04and you can use whatever wood you want. I'm using cherry. Now while our wings get up to 165 degrees
01:10internal, we're going to go ahead and make our sauce and we're going to start with some strawberry
01:13preserves. Now we really want to amplify the strawberry flavor in the matador energy drink and take advantage
01:19of that sweetness. Now we got our strawberry acai matador energy drink and we're going to pop the
01:25cap on this and we're going to dump the entire thing into our sauce. Now we're going to, we do
01:30want to
01:30maintain some of the traditional elements of barbecue, so I'm going to use the skull and mortar
01:34OG sauce here to kind of round out my sauce. Now if you don't have access to this sauce, you'll
01:40want to
01:40use a sauce that does well with sweeter elements. That's very important because with the strawberry jelly
01:45and then the matador energy drink, it's going to be sweet, so you don't want a sauce that's going to
01:50conflict with those flavors. From here on out, we're just going to whisk it down. We're going to heat it
01:55up. We're going to get it to a rolling boil and then we're going to let it cool back down
02:00so it
02:00thickens up. You want to make sure that you keep the sauce moving though so it doesn't burn. It will
02:05burn easily because of the sugar, so keep it moving. After about two and a half hours, our wings are
02:11done and they are looking phenomenal. We're going to go ahead and pour our sauce into a bowl here.
02:17As you can see, it is still a little thin, but it is still very hot, so we're going to
02:21let that cool
02:22down just a little bit longer. We want to make sure that we get it off that heat though.
02:28Guys, we have finished our matador energy shot chicken wings. We've got the sauce here and honestly,
02:34I'm going to be honest with you, I took a little sneak peek. It's really actually pretty good, dude.
02:39I'm honestly surprised. I didn't know what to expect, but we're going to start small here.
02:43We're just going to dip a chicken wing in here.
02:50Get a load of that. Get a load of that. Get a load of that. I'm just going to keep
02:58saying get a load
02:59of that until somebody confirms that they have in fact got a load of that. All right, let's give it
03:03a bite.
03:14Bro, you've got to be kidding me. These wings are low-key a banger and they're really pretty simple.
03:24I'm very surprised by how good these wings turned out. In fact, I think I'm going to eat this wing
03:31as well. They're good. They're fruity. They got a nice sweetness to them. They got the right amount
03:44of salt. They got the right amount of savory. I know a lot of you are going to watch this
03:51video
03:51and say, why would I ever do this? But if you actually do this, you will know why you should
03:56do
03:59it. So good. I'm really surprised by how good these are. Guys, if you thought this recipe was
04:04pretty awesome, make sure you hit like, subscribe, leave a comment down below. In fact, let us know
04:08what kind of recipes you want to see us make down below. Nothing is too wild. Nothing is too crazy.

04:19Do people say deuces or is that no good anymore? Yo, Google thinks that you would love this video.
04:24You should click on it and watch it. Give it a try. Who are we to argue with the AI
04:29genius of the algorithm?
