00:41Hello everyone, I'm Simone del Rosario.
00:43A shakeup at the top of the U.S. Army this morning.
00:46Secretary Dan Driscoll is resigning after just 18 months on the job, following months of reported friction with Defense Secretary
00:53Pete Hegseth.
00:54The White House confirmed Driscoll's resignation Monday, but did not give a reason for his departure.
01:00Driscoll has served as the Army's top civilian leader since his Senate confirmation in February 2025,
01:06a tenure that has included the war with Iran, the U.S. operation that captured former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro,
01:14and a role in U.S. efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
01:17The White House has praised Driscoll as highly effective, crediting him with improving Army readiness and advancing President Trump's military
01:26agenda.
01:27But behind the scenes, Driscoll and Hegseth have reportedly been at odds.
01:31CBS News reports Driscoll raised concerns with the Trump administration about the Army's transformation efforts,
01:37including Hegseth's removal of generals who had been leading some of that work.
01:41That includes General Randy George, the former Army Chief of Staff and a close ally of Driscoll's, who Hegseth ousted
01:49earlier this year.
01:50George and Driscoll had pushed an effort to expand the Army's use of drones and other unmanned systems.
01:56Part of that effort has since been scaled back.
01:59And Driscoll may not be the only one leaving.
02:02CBS News reports Deputy Army Undersecretary Dave Fitzgerald is also expected to step down this week.
02:09After the U.S. and Iran traded strikes for the first time in a month, President Trump is now threatening
02:14to hit Iran hard.
02:15In an interview with Fox News Monday, Trump vowed there would be a response after Iran retaliated for U.S.
02:22strikes with an attack on American forces in Jordan.
02:25But when asked whether the U.S. was heading back to full-scale war, Trump said the response doesn't need
02:31to be that extensive.
02:32It's very limited. Look, they're a failed nation. Yeah, they're a failed nation.
02:37They've got 350 percent inflation. They have no currency.
02:42They're not paying their soldiers. Their leaders are largely dead.
02:47Their navy is gone. Their air force is gone.
02:50Their surveillance equipment is almost entirely gone.
02:55That doesn't mean we won't smack them. We'll see what happens.
02:59Meanwhile, new trouble in the Strait of Hormuz.
03:02Two crude oil tankers were struck by projectiles Monday night while traveling through southern shipping lanes the Trump administration has
03:09touted as open and safe.
03:12According to the Greece-based maritime risk organization Marisks, a South Korean-owned tanker was hit just minutes after a
03:19Saudi-flagged vessel.
03:20And the renewed tensions are pushing oil prices higher for a second straight day.
03:25Both major benchmarks were up more than 2 percent this morning, with Brent crude above $92 a barrel and West
03:32Texas Intermediate around $88.
03:34Coming up on 30 years since Tupac Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas, there is now a conviction in
03:40his murder.
03:41A jury has found Dwayne Keefe D. Davis guilty of first-degree murder.
03:45Prosecutors never claimed 63-year-old Davis pulled the trigger.
03:49They said he orchestrated the attack, providing the gun and helping set in motion the ambush that killed one of
03:55hip-hop's most influential artists.
03:58Jurors deliberated for less than three hours after a week's-long trial.
04:03Davis did not testify, and after the verdict, he told the judge he plans to appeal.
04:08He's set to be sentenced October 13th and could spend the rest of his life in prison.
04:13I feel like Keefe D. was his own worst enemy. I really do.
04:19I think he did it to himself.
04:22I think, in a way, I'm kind of glad he did it to himself, because if he's responsible for it,
04:31somebody just didn't get away with killing my friend.
04:34Shakur was riding with Death Row Records co-founder Marion Shug Knight when a Cadillac pulled up beside their BMW
04:41on the Las Vegas Strip on September 7th, 1996, and someone fired on them.
04:47Knight was wounded. Shakur died six days later. He was just 25.
04:52Prosecutors say the shooting was retaliation for a fight hours earlier, when Shakur, Knight, and others attacked Davis' nephew, Orlando
05:00Anderson, inside the MGM Grand.
05:03And much of the case against Davis came from Davis himself.
05:07Over the years, he talked about the shooting in a police interview, documentaries, and his own memoir.
05:13His defense argues those accounts were fiction, stories Davis told for money and attention.
05:19The jury didn't buy it.
05:22Massachusetts Democrats vote later today in a Senate primary that's become a fight over what the next generation of the
05:28party should look like.
05:3080-year-old Senator Ed Markey is trying to win a third full term and facing a challenge from 47
05:36-year-old Congressman Seth Moulton.
05:38Moulton has made generational change the centerpiece of his campaign.
05:42arguing Democrats need younger leaders and calling for age limits for members of Congress.
05:48Markey has pushed back on that, and he has some of the party's biggest progressive names behind him,
05:54including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
05:59Markey also heads into primary day with a big lead.
06:03A new Emerson College poll has him at about 65 percent, Moulton at 35 percent, among likely Democratic voters.
06:10But Moulton does have the backing of the Boston Globe editorial board, which argues he can bring, quote,
06:16new vision and vigor to an aging, ailing, and deeply unpopular Democratic party.
06:23The board acknowledged Markey still looks and sounds sharp and brings valuable experience, but added, quote,
06:31Markey's been in Congress for nearly 50 years, first in the House, then in the Senate.
06:37If you're counting, that's longer than Moulton's been alive.
06:40Moulton argues that's exactly why it's time for change.
06:44Markey's supporters say his long record and his progressive positions are exactly why he should stay.
06:50Polls close tonight at 8 Eastern.
06:52The Supreme Court is letting President Trump keep building his $400 million White House ballroom, for now.
06:59But one of the strongest objections is coming from Chief Justice John Roberts.
07:04The court split 5-4 Monday, allowing construction to continue while the legal fight over the project plays out.
07:11Roberts joins the court's three liberal justices in dissent and says the construction is, quote,
07:17likely unlawful.
07:19The majority didn't rule on whether Trump has the legal authority to build the ballroom without congressional approval.
07:24Instead, it said the preservation group suing to stop the project likely doesn't have the legal standing to bring the
07:32challenge.
07:33Roberts was sharply critical of that decision.
07:35The White House is not just any building, he wrote in the dissent.
07:39It is an iconic American building whose symbolism and history are wrapped up in its architecture.
07:45He argued the court is likely allowing an infringement on Congress's power of the purse and its authority over federal
07:53property.
07:54A lower appeals court ruled earlier this month that Trump began the project in violation of laws requiring congressional approval.
08:01That legal fight isn't over.
08:03But the Supreme Court's decision means construction can continue while it plays out.
08:08And court documents show crews are working 20 hours a day, with the ballroom scheduled to be finished in 2028.
08:16Finally this morning, they're no Rosie, but a San Francisco startup's new house cleaning robots are bringing us a little
08:22closer to the future imagined by the Jetsons more than half a century ago.
08:27It's only been about a month since Tau Robotics' humanoid house cleaners started working in homes across San Francisco, and
08:33there's already a wait list.
08:35They handle many of the mundane chores we humans tend to put off, vacuuming, mopping, they even clean toilets.
08:42And the price? 30 bucks an hour, comparable to hiring a human house cleaner.
08:47But just like us, the robots aren't perfect.
08:51Over time we make it more and more autonomous, so the human is more and more just leaning back and
08:56just watching it do a task, maybe taking over if it makes some mistakes, and then at some point we'll
09:01be fully autonomous and humans won't have to work anymore.
09:05I don't want to clean the toilet, like I'm willing to wait a little bit more and read a book
09:09or do some work, so I'm very excited, it's like a glimpse of the future.
09:12And Tau has much bigger plans for the robots. The company eventually wants to expand into things like home repair
09:19and maintenance and even elder care.
09:22And they've got a little time to get it done. The Jetsons was set in 2062.
09:28Alright, before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
09:31At 8.30, two astronauts head outside the International Space Station for a spacewalk to replace equipment used to help
09:38spacecraft navigate during docking.
09:40At 9, jury deliberations resume in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial in Massachusetts.
09:45Her defense argues she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she killed her three children.
09:51Later this morning, House Republican and Democratic leaders hold separate news conferences after their party meetings.
09:57And at 12.15, it's the final day of Tyler Robinson's multi-day preliminary hearing.
10:02He's the man accused of killing Charlie Kirk last year.
