00:07The riders had a chance to recharge their batteries in yesterday's rest day before
00:11heading into what promises to be an intense second week.
00:15Today could be one for the breakaway with almost 3,000 metres of climbing.
00:19Spanish champion Marcel Camprubi, who got away on stage 9, says it's unpredictable.
00:28Absolutely, it'll be tough going today.
00:30Even if it doesn't look like it on paper, it's tough, with constant ups and downs and wide roads.
00:36It won't be easy to control the breakaway.
00:38And the air is very dry after coming from humid conditions.
00:41I think anything's possible.
00:44At UAE, life goes on without Tare Pigaccia,
00:47and the objective will be the same between now and the final stage in Granada.
00:51Yeah, we're going to try and win as many stages as possible,
00:55and, yeah, we'll have to pick our days.
00:58We have good riders for different types of terrain that are coming up in the next two weeks,
01:03so we'll really try and be strategic about the days we choose with certain riders
01:07and trying to maximise our chances.
01:11UNOX Mobility have been lively at this Vuelta,
01:13with Andreas Lechnesund and Tobias Johannesson taking a 1-2 on stage 7.
01:17Today, they could try to set up Magnus Cort, who won his first two stages here ten years ago.
01:24We came here with the ambitions and hope for chasing stages,
01:29and, yeah, we already won one, and I think there will still be opportunities left.
01:34So, yeah, we are fighting, and I'm very happy with what we've got so far.
01:39Well, one team won't be targeting the break today, and that's Wisma Lisebeik.
01:43The Dutch squad keen to set up Matthew Brennan or Wout van Aert for a false flat finish.
01:49Yeah, I think as a team we have the aim to control this stage.
01:53It's a hard one, but it should be a finish that suits us.
01:57So, yeah, it's always tricky if all the other teams have other ideas,
02:02but our objective is to control the race.
02:06I always love to go in a breakaway, but you have to try and maximise your chances,
02:11and, yeah, we think we have more chances if we have a controlled situation.
02:16Stage 10 is nearly 185 kilometres between Alcaraz and Elche de la Sierra.
02:21There are three Cat 3 climbs, but it's going to be up and down all day long,
02:26and there'll no doubt be some tired legs after the rest day.
02:29With a slightly uphill finish, it's not going to be an easy day for the pure sprinters.
02:43It took a little over 20 kilometres for the breakaway to form with seven riders.
02:48Even if the pace wasn't super high, the peloton were keeping them close at around a minute and a half.
02:54The leaders on to the second climb of the day,
02:56but none of them had any particular interest in the polka dot jersey.
03:00Several of the teams in the break have been trying since the start in Monaco,
03:04some with more success than others.
03:06Jascha Suttalin was up there for J.K. Olula,
03:09with Sinoué Fernandes in his third break of the race for Burgos,
03:12Frederic de Varshanes for UNO-X,
03:14Michael Gogol for Alpersin,
03:16Fabian Weiss for Tudor and Enzo Pelaini for Groupama,
03:19and finally Ivan Kobo for Kern Farmer,
03:22who have won stages in recent years,
03:23but have struggled to make an impact on this edition.
03:27We're always up for a fight and always aiming for the breakaway,
03:30so let's hope it goes our way today.
03:32But we have a big break and we can make it all the way to the finish line.

03:40Well, with 80 kilometers left,
03:42the break's chances were looking pretty slim.
03:44Two teams in the peloton were clearly bent on making this a sprint.
03:48Visma Lisabike for Brennan or for Van Aert,
03:50and Kofidis for Brian Cocker, who won on Saturday.
03:53The gap did slightly increase as they wound their way on towards the intermediate sprint.
03:58That would come around 60k from the finish,
04:00but it would take something special to deny the sprinters.

04:32I go through no major contest for those points or bonus seconds.
04:38The pace increasing as the riders began to approach the final,
04:42with the average speed creeping above 44 kilometers an hour.
04:45The day's last climb was the Puerto de Socovos,
04:48almost 10 kilometers at 3.5%,
04:50so perhaps not steep enough to make big differences.
04:54It did, however, thin out the break,
04:56with seven becoming five as Fernandes and Sutilin were dropped.
05:00The gap now just over a minute.
05:04Well, Valentin Paredpanto then attacks from the bunch,
05:07with birthday boy Eddie Dunbar on the wheel.
05:10The now 30-year-old Irishman opening up a small gap,
05:13but he didn't go far.
05:15Gogol, Kobo, Pelenni and De Varshanes leading the break to the summit.
05:19The gap was down to just 30 seconds,
05:21with Brennan covering attacks in the peloton.
05:24Van Aert would be the one sprinting for Visma.

05:32It's an undulating final 20 kilometers of stage 10 of La Vuelta.
05:36Four riders in the breakaway with a slender advantage,

05:45The escapees were brought back one by one,
05:47with Austrian champion Gogol being named the day's most combative rider.
05:51The last man standing from the break was De Varshanes,
05:54winner at the Giro this year,
05:56who was briefly joined by Inigo Elosegi of Kern Farmer,
05:59but they too were swallowed up on a high-speed run into the finish.
06:06Walter Calzone also tried his luck,
06:09but Brennan dragged the bunch back across.

07:59by a minute and 18 seconds from Primoz Roglic.
08:04Van Aert didn't get the win today,
08:06but he did increase his lead in the green jersey competition
08:09to 67 points.
08:10Rommelay up to second ahead of Matthew Brennan.

08:19and the defence of that jersey will resume in earnest on Thursday.
08:25And Oscar Onley retains his commanding lead
08:28in the youth classification.

08:32with a somewhat easier outing.
