00:02Massachusetts Democrats vote later today in a Senate primary that's become a fight over what
00:07the next generation of the party should look like. 80-year-old Senator Ed Markey is trying
00:13to win a third full term and facing a challenge from 47-year-old Congressman Seth Moulton.
00:19Moulton has made generational change the centerpiece of his campaign,
00:23arguing Democrats need younger leaders and calling for age limits for members of Congress.
00:28Markey has pushed back on that, and he has some of the party's biggest progressive names behind him,
00:34including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
00:40Markey also heads into primary day with a big lead. A new Emerson College poll has him at about
00:4565 percent, Moulton at 35 percent, among likely Democratic voters. But Moulton does have the
00:52backing of the Boston Globe editorial board, which argues he can bring, quote,
00:57new vision and vigor to an aging, ailing, and deeply unpopular Democratic Party.
01:03The board acknowledged Markey still looks and sounds sharp and brings valuable experience,
01:09but added, quote, this is no ordinary time. Markey's been in Congress for nearly 50 years,
01:15first in the House, then in the Senate. If you're counting, that's longer than Moulton's been alive.
01:20Moulton argues that's exactly why it's time for change. Markey's supporters say his long record
01:26and his progressive positions are exactly why he should stay. Polls close tonight at 8 Eastern.
