00:00Ma'am, just yesterday, the Peso closed at 62.565 against the dollar.
00:07It's a consecutive record low.
00:09May we know if the government's economic team has submitted an updated intervention plan to President Marcos
00:16in response to the Peso's continued record lows po?
00:20Okay.
00:46Okay. According to OES, the recent weakening of the Peso was brought about by broad U.S. dollar strength
00:54and rising global prices of oil.
00:57On the part of the BSP, while the rate hike last week was done to anchor inflation expectations,
01:04it also helps support our currency.
01:07Moving forward, we expect the BSP to act decisively based on available data
01:11and intervene when necessary to reduce exchange rate volatility.
01:17The administration's approach is focused on fiscal discipline and more efficient use of public funds.
01:25This means reviewing spending proposals carefully and prioritizing programs that have high economic and social returns.
02:05Thank you, and follow-up lang po.
02:07Since discipline in fiscal spending, ma'am, kasi last week po sa DBCC Senate hearing,
02:13BSP Remolona said na boosting national savings is a vital and long-term solution.
02:20He said and I quote po, hanggat maaari, sana tumaas yung savings natin, yun ang long-term na solution.
02:26And to lead by example, is the Malacanang open to issuing a directive instructing the government to trim non-essential
02:34spending?
03:17Okay, and last question na po.
03:19What is Malacanang's position to reassure yung ordinary Filipinos po?
03:23We're worried that weakening peso may drive up yung goods and basic commodity prices.
