This 3D animation illustrates a hypothetical feeding behavior of ticks ("lizard bugs"). When the first tick attaches to the skin and becomes engorged with bodily fluids, subsequent ticks can latch onto each other in a chain. Each tick in the chain feeds off the fluids accumulated in the tick directly ahead of it, though ticks further down the line receive progressively less nutrition from the primary host.
