00:05hi guys in the wild every animal has its own way to survive but some of them are
00:11equipped with weapons that are truly unbelievable some can shoot their prey
00:16from a distance generate high voltage electricity and even have weapons that
00:21work like poisonous harpoons and what's even crazier is that all these weapons
00:27weren't made by humans but formed naturally on their bodies here are some
00:33of the craziest animal weapons in the world
00:47while most fish have to wait for their prey to fall into the water this one has
00:52a much more unique way of hunting its name is the archer fish this fish has
00:59the ability to shoot jets of water from its mouth at insects above the water
01:04surface its shot can even hit insects that are perched on leaves or branches
01:09causing them to fall into the water what makes this ability even more amazing is
01:16that the archer fish doesn't just squirt water randomly this fish has to
01:21calculate the position of its prey from underwater while the light entering the
01:25water can make objects above the surface appear to be in a different position
01:29than they actually are however the archer fish is able to adjust the direction of
01:33its shot with great accuracy even when it needs a stronger shot this fish can
01:40adjust its water jet so that the back part of the jet moves faster and catches up
01:44with the front part and as a result the water hits with more force right when it
01:49reaches its prey
01:53so even though it doesn't have big fangs venom or sharp claws the archer fish has
01:58something that might be even stranger for a fish a natural water gun that can be
02:03used to shoot prey from below the water's surface
02:22while other birds use their beaks as their main weapon the cassowary actually
02:26has a much more dangerous weapon on its legs this large bird that lives in
02:31australia and papua has three toes on each of its feet but the most terrifying
02:36part is its inner toe because it is equipped with a long sharp claw that
02:40looks like a dagger and this is the claw that the cassowary uses to defend itself
02:45when it feels threatened
02:49cassowaries themselves are not animals that always attack because they usually
02:53choose to stay away however if it feels cornered or threatened this bird can jump
02:59and kick using its very strong legs and because of its large body the kick is not
03:05just an ordinary kick
03:09an adult cassowary can weigh dozens of kilograms and is able to run fast when
03:14the strength of its legs is combined with the sharp claws at the tips of its
03:17toes its attack can cause serious injuries in fact cases of cassowary attacks
03:23causing human deaths have been recorded although incidents like this are very rare
03:29so if you see a cassowary up close don't be fooled by its feathers that look like those of an
03:36ordinary bird because hidden on its feet are sharp claws that look more like weapons than a
03:41part of a bird's body
03:57while most animals attack using teeth claws or venom this one has a much more unusual weapon its name
04:06is the electric eel this animal is able to generate electric shocks from thousands of special cells
04:13called electrocytes these cells work like tiny batteries arranged inside its body when activated
04:20simultaneously the result is a very powerful electric shock in some species of electric eel the
04:25voltage varies it can even reach more than 800 volts this weapon is usually used for hunting when it
04:34finds prey the electric eel can release a high voltage shock that causes the praise muscles to
04:40contract making it temporarily lose control after its prey is unable to escape the electric eel approaches
04:48and eats it but what's even more interesting is that its electricity isn't only used for attacking
04:56the electric eel can also generate much weaker electric pulses to detect objects around it and help find
05:03prey especially when it's in murky water in certain situations the electric eel can even jump out of the
05:10water and press part of its body against an animal that threatens it
05:25if an ordinary eagle already has terrifying looking talents this eagle takes it to a whole different level
05:33its name is the harpy eagle this eagle which lives in the tropical forests of central and south america
05:40is one of the largest and strongest eagles in the world with its main weapons located on both of its
05:45legs
05:47the harpy eagle has very large and powerful legs complete with long talons used to grasp its prey
05:54the talon on its back toe can even grow up to about 13 centimeters almost as long as a grizzly
06:00bear's claw
06:01and such large talons are definitely needed because the harpy eagle's prey isn't just small animals
06:07because this bird is able to hunt mammals that live in trees such as monkeys and even sloths which are
06:14quite
06:14large in size and when it finds its prey the harpy eagle will fly between the trees before attacking it
06:21with both
06:22feet its talons then grip the prey's body tightly so it can't escape
06:28in fact if you look closely the happy eagle's legs look much thicker than those of most other birds of
06:35prey the combination of the harpy eagle's strong legs and long talons is what makes it such a terrifying
06:42predator in the treetops
06:56if body size determined how strong an animal is this shrimp shouldn't look too terrifying
07:03but the mantis shrimp has a pair of weapons that make its size almost meaningless
07:09in a type of mantis shrimp called the smasher its two front legs have developed into a kind of hard
07:15club used to crush prey and its strike happens incredibly fast
07:22when attacking the club can strike at a speed of about 20 meters per second econ the impact is strong
07:29enough to break the shells of animals like crabs sea snails and clams but the craziest part actually
07:36happens right after the strike is delivered its incredibly fast movement causes the water pressure
07:42to drop drastically and creates bubbles called cavitation bubbles when the bubble collapses it creates a
07:49shock wave that delivers an additional blow to its prey this means its prey is not only hit by the
07:57mantis shrimp's strike but also affected by the collapse of the bubble created by that strike
08:04with this ability the mantis shrimp can destroy the hard shells of its prey
08:08even though its own body size is relatively small
08:30looking at its appearance it might be hard to believe that this sea snail is actually a predator with the
08:36a deadly weapon it's called the cone snail
08:41this sea snail has a special kind of tooth shaped like a small harpoon that is stored inside its body
08:47when it finds its prey the cone snail will extend a trunk-like part of its body called a proboscis
08:53this is where the small harpoon is shot toward its prey but this harpoon isn't just used for stabbing
08:59because inside it there's a mixture of venom called conotoxin and once the harpoon pierces the venom will
09:06enter the prey's body and attack its nervous system in some species that hunt fish the effects can happen
09:15very quickly fish that are attacked will lose their ability to move so they can't swim away and once its
09:21prey is paralyzed the cone snail will then pull it in and swallow it and even though most cone snails
09:30are not
09:31dangerous to humans some species have venom strong enough to cause serious conditions even death
09:40what's even more terrifying is that until now there is still no specific anti-venom to treat stings from
09:45cone snails even though this animal just looks like a snail with a beautiful shell it's best not to
09:51handle it carelessly because behind its shell there's a tiny harpoon that can inject venom directly
09:57into its victim's body
10:11there you have it the list of the craziest animal weapons in the world
