Tom Cruise has remained one of Hollywood’s most recognizable and commercially successful stars for decades, yet his long career has also attracted controversy, speculation, and recurring public tension with other celebrities.

When audiences search for celebrities who can't stand Tom Cruise, they are often looking for more than gossip; they want to understand the real history behind the headlines.
Transcript
00:03From Oasis expressing full disgust to Lisa Marie Presley saying Tom Cruise was a man
00:08she never wanted to be in the same room with again, and Bronson Pinchot labeling him the
00:12biggest bore on earth. These are the celebrities who can't stand Tom Cruise and their reasons will
00:17shock you. Lisa Marie Presley
00:19Lisa Marie Presley was the only child of Elvis, and she grew up inside the Church of Scientology
00:25after her mother Priscilla joined when Lisa was still a child. She stayed loyal for most of her
00:29life. Then after she finally walked away, she sat down with the Scientology reporter Tony Ortega and
00:34said the quiet part out loud, I f***ing hate Tom. I met him 20 years ago. I said I never
00:39want to be in
00:40a room with him again. Presley explained that once she got her inheritance at 25, the Church began
00:44grooming her to pull other celebrities in. She crossed paths with Cruise through those same circles,
00:49about 20 years before she ever spoke about him in public. People close to her told Ortega,
00:53the Church even pushed her to help recruit other stars, including attempts aimed at Michael Jackson
00:58during their marriage. One meeting with Cruise was all it took for her to shut the door.
01:01Her feelings about the whole Church ran even deeper. She privately called its leader David
01:06Miscavige, Hitler, and she said the group took her soul, money, everything before she got out around
01:112012. Her hardest anger landed on Cruise. She stayed warmer toward John Travolta, another famous member,
01:17while she cut Cruise off for good. After she left, she studied the organization closely, spoke with
01:22defectors like the leader's own father Ron Miscavige, and quietly worked against the Church from the
01:26outside. She never gave a long story about Cruise the way others on this list would. She did not
01:31need to. One sentence said it all. Our next critic came at Cruise from a completely different direction,
01:35and it had everything to do with what he saw up on the movie screen.
01:39Mickey Rourke
01:40Mickey Rourke was one of the hottest young actors of the 1980s, an edgy transformative star in films
01:45like Nine and a Half Weeks and Angel Heart. Then he vanished for years, then clawed his way back
01:49with an unforgettable turn in the wrestling. That road gave him a hard standard for what real acting looks
01:54like. So when a reporter on Piers Morgan Uncensored brought up how Top Gun, Maverick,
01:58had just made more than a billion dollars, Rourke did not reach for a polite answer.
02:02That doesn't mean s*** to me. The guy's been doing the same f***ing part for 35 years.
02:08Rourke's box office was never the measure of an actor. He said flat out that he had no respect for
02:13it and that money and power meant nothing to him. He named the performers he actually respected,
02:17Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, early Robert De Niro, Richard Harris, and Ray Winston. Those men he felt
02:23disappeared into different roles, while Cruise played one high-energy hero for decades while
02:27the crowds kept clapping. So when Piers pushed him on whether Cruise was even a good actor,
02:32Rourke did not blink. I think he's irrelevant in my world.
02:35There was no old feud here, and the two men had never shared a set. It was pure contempt for
02:39a kind
02:40of stardom Rourke believes has nothing to do with the craft he loves. The billion-dollar success of Top
02:44Gun, Maverick that summer was simply what put a long-held opinion on camera. To him, playing the same
02:49hero for 35 years and packing out theatres said nothing about whether a man could really act.
02:54Our next name never questioned whether Cruise could act. She questioned whether he had any
02:58right to speak about something far more personal.
03:01Rourke Shields Rourke Shields battled severe postpartum depression after the birth of her
03:06daughter, and she credited antidepressants and therapy with helping her survive it. She wrote about
03:10it in her book Down Came the Rain so other struggling mothers would feel less alone. Then in 2005,
03:15while promoting War of the Worlds, Cruise went on the Today show and tore into her for it.
03:20He called psychiatry a pseudoscience, denied that chemical imbalances even existed,
03:25and said promoting the medication was irresponsible. He told viewers that vitamins and exercise were the
03:30real answer, in line with Scientology teaching on the mind. Shields had lived through the worst of
03:35that illness, and credited the medication and her therapy with saving both her and her family.
03:40Shields fired back in a New York Times op-ed titled War of Words, writing that she would take a
03:45wild
03:45guess and say that Mr. Cruise has never suffered from postpartum depression. She said his ridiculous
03:50rant showed an utter lack of understanding, and she hoped some good might come of it by bringing
03:54attention to a serious disease. A man who had never carried or delivered a child had no business
03:58lecturing women about how to heal after one. Years later, she found something almost funny in how badly
04:04it backfired. In her 2025 memoir, Shields revealed that Cruise had apologized to her in private. He showed up
04:10at her house and admitted he had felt cornered by the host Matt Lauer and lashed out at her because
04:15he could.
04:15She accepted the apology, though it never happened in public the way she felt it should have.
04:19Our next critic never traded a single word with Cruise, yet he still called him a midget and an absolute
04:24joke.
04:25Richard Harris
04:26Richard Harris was a hell-raising Irish legend from an older Hollywood, best known to young viewers as the first
04:32Albus Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films, a role he played until his death. He came from a
04:37generation
04:37that answered to no one, and he had no patience for the polished, image-obsessed stars who came after
04:42him. Cruise, with his security team and squeaky clean brand, was the perfect target. Tom Cruise is a
04:47midget, and he has eight bodyguards all six feet ten, which makes him even more diminutive. It's an
04:52absolute joke. He was not done. In another swipe that has followed Cruise for years, Harris sneered that
04:57he's got very nice teeth, but has he ever read a book? He liked to point at the gap between
05:00his own
05:01crowd and the new breed of movie star. He would show up to premieres with a bottle of vodka in
05:05hand,
05:05while men like Cruise arrived clutching bottles of Evian, the contrast he brought up in interviews
05:10around the early Harry Potter premieres. The two never worked together. Harris simply used Cruise
05:15as the face of an industry he found ridiculous, all private jets and dieticians and bodyguards
05:19and endless publicity. To him, that whole apparatus was proof that stardom had gone soft. Harris had
05:24come up hard-drinking and hell-raising, answering to no one, and he saw the new stars as managed and
05:29careful by comparison. He died in 2002, still throwing punches at the Hollywood he thought had lost its
05:35nerve. Our next critics were rock stars, not old actors, and they were even blunter than Harris
05:40ever dared to be. Oasis
05:42Noel and Liam Gallagher, the warring brothers who fronted Britpop's biggest band Oasis,
05:47have never met a famous person they were afraid to insult. They built a whole career out of trash-talking
05:52rival bands, footballers, and Hollywood stars with the same casual venom they aimed at each other.
05:56During their 2007 tour documentary, Lord Don't Slow Me Down, filmed on the Don't Believe the Truth
06:01Tour. The subject of Tom Cruise came up, and neither brother held anything back. Noel went first. That
06:06was Noel writing off the biggest action star in the world in a single breath. Then his younger brother
06:11Liam jumped in, lumping Cruise together with a footballer he could not stand either, and doing
06:15it with a smile on his face. The jab fit their long habit of tearing into anyone famous, from rival
06:21bands to the England striker Michael Owen. Oddly the brothers still gave a strange little pass to the movie
06:26cocktail. And in 2009, while Cruise was promoting his war film Valkyrie, he reportedly walked right
06:31up to Liam in a Berlin hotel, brought up the insults and even joked about that cocktail comment.
06:36The two shook hands and left it there. Years later in 2025, Cruise even showed up at the Oasis reunion
06:41shows at Wembley, cheering on the very band whose singer once called him a little nobody. The brothers
06:46had not shared a stage in over 15 years, which made Cruise turning up to clap along all the stranger.
06:51Our next name did not get a friendly handshake, and his resentment ran a lot deeper than rockstar
06:56banter. Brad Pitt. Back in 1994, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were locked together on the set of
07:03Interview with the Vampire, and it did not go smoothly. Pitt played the brooding, passive Louis,
07:07while Cruise played the flashy magnetic Lestat, and the whole film was built to shine on Cruise's
07:12character. Pitt later called the shoot six months trapped in the dark, stuck playing the weaker role
07:16while everything revolved around his co-star. Off camera, the two men could not have been more
07:20different. Cruise was hyper-outgoing and competitive, all handshakes and go-kart races,
07:26while Pitt kept to himself and bristled at the steady push to compete. He spelled out the clash
07:30in a 1995 premiere interview. He's North Pole, I'm South. He's coming at you with a handshake,
07:35where I may bump into you, I may not, he said. He admitted there came a point during filming when
07:40he started really resenting Cruise, and that an underlying competition got in the way of any real
07:44conversation. He was careful to say it never turned nasty. He even praised Cruise as a good actor,
07:49saying Cruise catches a lot of grief because he is on top, but he does the work and earns it.
07:55Two stars never work together again. Time softened things. The film itself was a hit that lifted both
07:59of them, yet the two leads came out of it with no interest in ever sharing a screen again. Pitt
08:04has
08:04since joked about the go-kart races they used to run on set, and in 2025, Cruise turned up at
08:09the
08:09London premiere of Pitt's racing movie, F1. Our next critic came from the golden age of cinema,
08:13and she found Cruise's public behavior nothing short of a sickness.
08:17Lauren Bacall
08:18Lauren Bacall was Hollywood royalty from a lost era, the smoky-voice screen legend who married
08:24Humphrey Bogart and carried herself with cool guarded elegance. She had come up in the old studio
08:28system, where stars kept their private lives behind closed doors, and she valued that privacy above
08:33almost everything. So when Cruise spent the summer of 2005 bouncing on opera's couch and turning his
08:38romance with Katie Holmes into a non-stop public spectacle, Bacall was appalled. His whole behavior
08:44is so shocking. It's inappropriate and vulgar and absolutely unacceptable to use your private life
08:49to sell anything commercially, but I think it's kind of a sickness, she told Time. She took aim at his
08:54talent too. When you talk about a great actor, you're not talking about Tom Cruise, she said. For a
08:59woman who shared the screen with the giants of old Hollywood, that was about as sharp a dismissal as
09:04she could deliver. She was in her 80s by then and had lost none of her bite. There was no
09:08shared
09:08movie and no private grudge. That summer Cruise was declaring his love for Katie Holmes on one talk
09:13show after another, and the courtship ran through the press for weeks. Bacall watched a grown man
09:17broadcast his private life to sell movie tickets, and everything about it struck her as vulgar and
09:22in her words sick. Coming from a woman who guarded her own image with quiet care for decades, the
09:26judgment carried weight. Our next critic did not watch from a distance. He stood right next to Cruise at
09:31the very start of his career, and what he remembers is far darker. Bronson Pinchot
09:37Long before Tom Cruise was a global icon, he was a hungry young actor sharing scenes with
09:42Bronson Pinchot in the 1983 film, Risky Business. Both men were barely in their 20s, with Cruise
09:47around 20 and Pinchot about 23. Years later, in a 2009 interview with the AV Club, Pinchot
09:53painted a picture of his old co-star that was anything but flattering. He remembered Cruise
09:58as tense and full of himself, insisting on calling people by their character names even when the cameras
10:03were off. The group thought Tom was the biggest bore on the face of the earth. The more troubling
10:08part went beyond boredom. Pinchot claimed Cruise made constant, unrelated homophobic comments that
10:13came out of nowhere. One example he gave was Cruise asking whether they should grab ice cream
10:17somewhere with no gay people around. Another was a strange remark about it being a nice day,
10:22with no gay people standing there. Both twisted an ordinary moment into the same uncomfortable theme.
10:27Years later, when rumors swirled around Cruise's own private life, Pinchot found the whole thing
10:32weirdly fitting. For the record, Cruise's publicist pushed back hard, calling the claim so far removed
10:38from who Cruise really is that they must have been men as jokes. The remarks only reached a wide audience
10:43decades later, when the old interview resurfaced online. Still, Pinchot formed his opinion in real
10:48time, on a real set, from watching how a young Tom Cruise carried himself every single day.
10:53Our next critic waited years before letting it all out, and when he did, he did it in front of
10:58a room
10:58full of Hollywood's biggest directors. Judd Apatow
11:02Judd Apatow, the comedy powerhouse behind The 40-Year-Old Virgin, had his own strange brush with Tom Cruise.
11:08Around 2005, Apatow and Seth Rogen met with Cruise at his house to talk about possible comedy projects.
11:14The conversation drifted towards Scientology, and Cruise offered to spend 20 minutes explaining it,
11:19promising they would be amazed. Apatow shut it down. Then he spent years watching Cruise's
11:23Scientology advocacy, his attacks on antidepressants, his death-defying stunts,
11:28and the public fallout with Katie Holmes' play out in the headlines.
11:32By the time he hosted the 2023 Director's Guild of America Awards, all of that had piled up into a
11:37full comic assault. He cracked jokes about Cruise needing phone books to reach the flight controls
11:41in Top Gun, Maverick. He turned the star's famous stunts into a punchline about his religion,
11:46saying each one does feel like an ad for Scientology, before adding that there is
11:50nothing about jumping off a cliff in the Torah or in Dianetics. Then came the line that made the
11:55whole room gasp. Apatow told the crowd that the only thing he seems to be afraid of is co-parenting
11:59and antidepressants, a jab that pulled Cruise's ex-wife and his daughter into the joke. He even
12:04acted out how a calmer medicated Cruise might think, joking that such a man would never jump off
12:08a motorcycle on a cliff and would simply ask why he even works when he is already rich.
12:12It landed with a mix of laughter and audible shock. Cruise, of course, was nowhere in the building.
12:17Yet no one on this entire list has stood beside Tom Cruise longer, or gone further in what she
12:22is willing to say about him, than the woman we saved for the very end.
12:26Lee Remini grew up inside the Church of Scientology and rose through its celebrity
12:32ranks for decades, which put her closer to Tom Cruise than almost anyone outside his family.
12:36She attended his 2006 wedding to Katie Holmes, and she even taught the two of them how to dance
12:41the salsa. That closeness is what makes her the most detailed and damaging critic he has ever had.
12:45She says the warm, charming man the public sees is a carefully built mask.
12:54Remini has stacked up story after story to back that claim. She says she was written up simply for
12:59telling Cruise and Holmes to get a room. She describes him berating an assistant over a chipped mug and some
13:04pre-made cookie dough, snapping at the staff to get in the present time, and calling them degraded beings.
13:09She even says she was once asked to play hide-and-seek with grown adults at his house,
13:13including Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. She has flatly called him diabolical,
13:17and she insists questioning him inside the Church is treated as a serious crime.
13:21She says Cruise ranks himself in Miscavige just below the founder, L. Ron Hubbard,
13:25in the eyes of the faithful. Remini says Scientologists are taught to view critics
13:39like her as something evil, an enemy to be shut out completely. So when asked what Cruise would
13:43ever say to her now, her answer was chilling and simple. To him, she is no longer a friend
13:48or a former colleague at all. He wouldn't say anything to me because he thinks I'm the devil.
13:52She has never backed down from any of it. She laid it all out in her memoir Troublemaker,
13:57she built her award-winning series Scientology and the Aftermath around exposing the Church,
14:02and she raised his elevated status again in her later lawsuit. Of everyone on this list,
14:06Lee Remini got the closest and stayed the longest, and she walked away calling one of the most beloved
14:11stars in the world the devil himself. Found this information exciting and unbelievable.
14:15Be sure to check out other similar and amazing videos on the screen.
14:19Thanks again for watching, I'll see you in the next video.
