00:28It starts
00:29It starts with a fresh shot of espresso. Bold. Rich. Bold just right. Then comes the milk. Steamed sleeve. Creamy
00:42and balanced. The perfect latte is not brushed. It is crafted. One cup at a time. Your perfect latte is
00:52ready. Coffee first. Then, everything else.
00:56Good afternoon and welcome to Beyond the Headlines. I'm DJ Moises and today's conversation is brought to us by Coffee
01:03First.
01:05Cybercrime is no longer a distant or purely digital threat. It is happening around us and anyone who uses a
01:13phone, social media, online banking, or the internet can potentially become a target.
01:19Let's look deeper and think better. Today, we talked to Police Captain Aileen Marie Remedio of the Cybercrime Division of
01:28the Philippine National Police to understand the threat and more importantly, what can we do about it?
01:35So, hello, Captain Remedio. And welcome to Beyond the Headlines.
01:39Hello, sorry, DJ. Good afternoon.
01:42Good afternoon. Yes. And thank you for making time for this. We just learned that she traveled all the way
01:50from Bohol to Cebu just for this session.
01:53And we hope that our viewers will be learning more about cybercrimes considering that the world has already extended from
02:03face to face and now to the digital space.
02:05Yes. So, for the benefit of our viewers and even myself, can you tell us what exactly constitutes a cybercrime
02:15and what are the typical activities that fall under her?
02:20Yeah, so a cybercrime is a type of crime that involves information and communications technology or ICT.
02:28So, for example, computers, cell phones, internet, social media. And examples of cybercrimes are online scams, identity theft, cyberbullying, illegal
02:41access, and online exploitation.
02:44And thank you for that definition. Because like what we said in the intro, some of our viewers just yet
02:53are very familiar with the face-to-face types of crimes like pickpocketing,
03:00ilad-ilad, etc. But not many are well aware as more of us are spending a lot of our time
03:07in the digital space.
03:13So, what's the most common cybercrime that are reported in your division?
03:22For this year, 2026, the top five cases we received are online scams, online libel, illegal access, identity theft, and
03:36online threat.
03:39Let's start with, what's it like, first story?
03:42Online scams.
03:42Online scams. Sige, let's start now with online scams.
03:45What's the case of the case that constitutes an online scams?
03:49So, online scams, scammers are using deceptive methods to victimize their victims.
03:58Like, for example, in investment scams or other type of scams, they use phishing or vishing.
04:11So, from the word phishing, it has a bait to get the attention of the victim.
04:20So, for example, this scammer is pretending to be or introducing themselves as representative of a bank.
04:28So, they will make you believe that they are really from the bank.
04:33So, they will verify your personal information, even your credit card information they know.
04:40So, they make you believe that they are legitimate from the bank.
04:44So, once they get your trust, they will start to give offer.
04:52Like, for example, you have rewards.
04:55You have points that will expire soon.
04:59So, you need to convert this to cash or else it will expire.
05:04So, there's a sense of urgency.
05:08Okay, so, because it will expire.
05:11So, you need to convert it to cash.
05:13So, they will say, okay, for you to convert that to cash, I need, there will be a six-digit
05:23number that will be sent to your mobile phone.
05:26Okay, so, please give that six-digit number to convert your points to cash.
05:32Okay, so, because you are thinking of the cash that they will give to you, okay, you will also give
05:40the six-digit code that's sent to your mobile phone without thinking that that six-digit code is the one
05:49-time password or the OTP that for them to access your account.
05:55So, once they access your account, they can get the money from your bank account.
06:00And earlier, before we started, and we hope that our viewers have captured that because the big change, when you
06:09mentioned earlier about they really pretend like they are from the bank.
06:15And for the benefit of our viewers, at least from my own experience, when they pretend, it comes with the
06:22grammar.
06:23And how they are really skilled, in my view, better than a lot of our call center agents.
06:33They don't have the call center kind of chuang, but they really speak like they truly…
06:40We sound so professional.
06:41Yes, very professional.
06:42Even the background noise, there was no…
06:46Because in call centers, unfortunately, sometimes you get to hear people chatting in Cebuano or they're chatting about the food.
06:53But in my case, even the background noise, there were people also conversing in other cyber crimes.
07:00And I even made a comment, just for…
07:02I even said that, is there really a rise in cyber crimes as of this time?
07:06Because I could hear people from your background also managing the same.
07:11So that's how intelligent crimes have become.
07:17Now, I'm particularly curious, although it's not among the top three, but you mentioned identity theft.
07:24That's, frankly, I heard about it in movies, but I'm not expecting that there's also an emerging case of identity
07:34theft.
07:35So can you tell us more about it?
07:37Mostly the victims of identity theft are also victims of scams.
07:41So they are like interconnected.
07:43Okay.
07:43So, for example, victims of scams, they were asked to provide identification card, ID, okay?
07:52And all their personal information and also their selfie.
07:56So with that information that you're giving to the scammers, they will create a profile, an account.
08:03And they will use that account to scam other people.
08:07So that's identity theft.
08:09Correct.
08:09Correct.
08:09Because they can pose as that person.
08:14Yes.
08:14Because they have the personal identity.
08:17Personal details of that person.
08:20Wow.
08:20No, no.
08:21And the reason why I'm speechless is because I've never expected, although I've seen it in movies.
08:26Yes.
08:26But I did not expect that it's already being reported also even in Region 7.
08:32Yes.
08:33There are also trends, and correct me if I'm wrong, that I've also heard, and we're still on the types
08:39of cybercrime, so that's how interesting this conversation is,
08:42that the most vulnerable are either children or the older generation.
08:51Is that impression true or not?
08:54Yes.
08:55We're also getting trends on online sexual exploitation of children cases that's victimizing minor children.
09:05And we're also seeing trends on love scams, which are also victimizing older people, usually divorced people or widowers or
09:17widows.
09:18But based on our data, the highest number of cases we reported to us are involving people or victims aged
09:2821 to 30 years old.
09:30So young adults, actually.
09:32Ah, so these are most likely scams, no?
09:35Yes, scams.
09:36Okay, but it falls on that range.
09:39And by the way, for the benefit of our viewers, monang matarget po'n usahay ang kaning mga older population,
09:46but for the lack of a better word, but let's call it as it is, it's also because of their
09:50presence in social media.
09:52Yes.
09:53So mag-detect na daan, matarget sila because, ah, baguday ni siya na matiyan o ba na.
09:58Yes.
09:59So they become a target, no?
10:00So maupunas, at least for the younger population, we are more aware that whatever we post in social media can
10:09be used against us.
10:11But kanyang mga, kanyang mga, kanyang mga, medyo taas-taas na ugidad, for them, it was just a harmless post,
10:19but not realizing na ay makakita nga sila na i-target.
10:25Yes.
10:25Yes.
10:25Yes.
10:26They're lonely.
10:29Or mo post sila sa ilang kalonely, then they become targets also.
10:32So, Karun, ang isa po na na-curious na ko is, how diligent man, Sad, because some of them are
10:42embarrassed nung anailad sila.
10:44But how diligent are people also in terms of reporting these crimes to your unit, Sad?
10:52Cybercrime cases are reported to our unit regularly.
10:56Ah, okay.
10:57And we continue to receive a significant number of complaints, particularly in online scams and fraud.
11:05But we also recognize that it may also be at the tip of the iceberg because some victims don't want
11:13to report because they feel embarrassed, they're afraid, and sometimes they say they want to go through the hassle.
11:23So, and for the viewers, that's why we need to report them.
11:30Okay, that would also give an opportunity for the PNP to take action.
11:36Yes.
11:37Okay, muraman saan ni kanang ilad-ilad in the physical space.
11:40If dili na ito i-report, then we are misled to think na kaninga particular street is safe.
11:46Yes.
11:47But in fact, daghandi ang, I'm just making this up, daghandi ang pickpocketers but unreported lang.
11:52Yes, yes.
11:52So, that's why it's important for them to report.
11:55And by the way, with the same scam that I highlighted earlier, one of the person who messaged me privately,
12:01na-appeal siya sa scam, scam is an IT manager.
12:04So, embarrassed siya nung ni-fall siya into a scam, so gihilom na lang niya.
12:11So, that's also one of the reasons why they go kinang undetected.
12:17Let's talk about, kanika, di ba, Murag, you mentioned nga it falls under the professional or young adult space.
12:24You've mentioned also about senior citizens.
12:27And you mentioned a little bit of young people and children.
12:32Aside from katong the obvious that you stated, unsang kanang types of crimes na very vulnerable ang mga bata, especially
12:43those who are exposed to playing online games.
12:47Okay. So, to those exposed to online games or to platforms wherein children are vulnerable, there's what we call online
13:00sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
13:04So, predators are present in social media, in online games.
13:09That's where they find children as a target for them to exploit.
13:14Okay. So, murag ka na, just for the viewers also to capture, the risk is not the game itself, no?
13:23But the risk kung kinsa to ilang mga kadula or ilang kasturya once they engage in the games, no?
13:32So, balik ta sa katong parents, no?
13:34Okay.
13:35Di ba, you said man nga, they tend to, because they're embarrassed.
13:39When I say parents, they're parents sa parents.
13:41Ang mga lolo o lola, no?
13:43And you mentioned na, kanang, they tend to be embarrassed.
13:47So, for example, if na ako'y lolo or lola, who is active in kanang social media platforms,
13:54unsa'y mga red flags na akong mabantayan na murag na, ah, many kasturya akong lolo o lola, no?
14:00I need to be more mindful of.
14:03Okay, sige, sige.
14:04For the benefit of viewers, nagtabi i-manggudmika ganila ni Captain Eileen, no?
14:09Na, kanang, sa una magong panahon, katong wala pa'y digital space,
14:14more or less natay idea kung kinsay kasturya sa atong lolo.
14:18Or taga-asa sila.
14:20But in this case, ang tong lolo o lola karun, they're quietly in social media naman.
14:25And they have their own love life.
14:28Unfortunately, or fortunately, by nga wakintay idea at all.
14:34So, unsa masad ang mga signs na we could say na murag,
14:37angay siguro na ako nang ipa-open up si lolo o si lola.
14:40Basin mabiktima ni siya with love scams, for example.
14:44So, one indication is if they are always on the phone, online.
14:51So, they don't want to be distracted.
14:55And also, another indication if they always go to money remittance.
15:02They spend time going to…
15:05Yes, because ang mga scammers, for example, in love scams,
15:11they want to, like, get money from their victims.
15:16So, we have a victim in our prof, in Bohol,
15:21may abot o 1 million ang nakatag sa scammers in love scam.
15:27Because she keep on sending money to the scammers, to the other person.
15:36Because they have reasons like,
15:39na yung family problem, na yung medical problem sa family,
15:44they have emergency.
15:45So, because na-gain na ang trust,
15:50trust is already built.
15:51Or ni-fall na.
15:52Yes, the fall na.
15:53They really have a deep relationship.
15:58So, nagtuosad siya nga real to siya.
16:01So, she kept on sending money.
16:04So, frequent trips to remittance centers,
16:08that would be an indication
16:09na that person could be a victim of love scam.
16:14And the reason why I said very good earlier,
16:16because that's a good point.
16:18Ang 1 million dila siya one time, no?
16:20Kanang seeing pangayo-pangayo.
16:23So, the trips could be an indicator.
16:26Or is, uh, not just in remittance center,
16:28in banks also.
16:30And then, what about for children, man, sad?
16:34Okay, ang mga parents,
16:35karun, wala magigin sila kaila, no?
16:36Except that their kids are playing online games.
16:39What are the indicators po?
16:40At namurag makayang sila nga,
16:41I think I need to have more conversation with my kid.
16:44Kaya morag na ay something.
16:46Yeah, so, um,
16:48one red flag is
16:49if they keep on spending more time in their phone,
16:52especially late at night.
16:54Mm-hmm.
16:55And also,
16:56if they want to hide their screen
16:58or their phone
16:59when they're chatting someone.
17:01Mm-hmm.
17:01Kanang mo, anak.
17:02Yes, yes.
17:03So, that's an indication.
17:04Especially nga kids pagid sila, no?
17:06Yes.
17:07Maybe siguro,
17:08adolescents na yung mga privacy issues,
17:12but for 7, 8, 9,
17:139, and then
17:159 secret.
17:16Yeah, that's a good point.
17:18Now, which reminds me of my next question.
17:20What about adolescents?
17:21Kaya naman sila'y kanang
17:23kanang
17:24privacy
17:26expectation, no?
17:26Yes.
17:27Why are you
17:27checking my screen?
17:32Magbisod ang parents
17:33o tubag, anang a question.
17:34Yes, yes.
17:36So, for adolescents,
17:38what's an indication
17:39that they're,
17:41and they also spend
17:42late at night
17:43di hapon po,
17:44na mag-games, correct?
17:45Yeah, yes.
17:45They also spend
17:47late at night
17:48online
17:48in social media
17:50or in any other platforms.
17:52And also,
17:52the same,
17:53they want to hide
17:54their screen
17:55or their phone
17:57when they are chatting
17:58with someone.
17:59And,
18:00kanipo siya,
18:00while you were
18:01kanang
18:02answering the question,
18:03it also became
18:03an aha moment
18:04for me, ba?
18:06If parents would,
18:07like,
18:08I'm referring to
18:09adolescents na,
18:10would restrict
18:11ka ng late-night
18:12games,
18:12sometimes,
18:13they play games
18:15within 1am na,
18:162am na,
18:18so,
18:18pagpaundangon di
18:19ang mga adolescents,
18:20and I hope our parents,
18:21our watching,
18:22have captured that,
18:23it's not just
18:24because it's
18:25distracting them
18:26from school,
18:28but the more
18:29they spend
18:30their time
18:31on those hours,
18:33so,
18:33they become
18:34vulnerable
18:35to global
18:37contacts,
18:38no?
18:39Okay,
18:39momansad ni ang koan,
18:40momansad ni ang ting mata,
18:42di ba?
18:42So,
18:42sa mga
18:43other parts of the world.
18:44So,
18:45if they're spending
18:46time at 2am,
18:483am,
18:49maybe they are
18:49chatting with somebody
18:51na nagmataan
18:53ang panahon na.
18:54Yes.
18:54So,
18:55risky na siya.
18:56Yes.
18:56And also,
18:57you can see
18:58indication in their
18:59behavior na
19:01sometimes,
19:02when they
19:02are using their
19:04phone,
19:04they suddenly get
19:05upset or irritable,
19:07so,
19:07you might
19:08think that
19:10something's wrong
19:11with
19:12the child.
19:13Yes,
19:14na yung pinagdadaanan.
19:15Yes.
19:16And you don't,
19:16you cannot attribute it
19:18in the physical space,
19:19so maybe somewhere
19:20in the digital space.
19:21Yes, yes.
19:22Now,
19:22the other things also,
19:23because you mentioned
19:24about
19:25gaining trust
19:28what are also,
19:29at least from the
19:29reports that you
19:30are getting
19:31or receiving
19:32sa inyong unit,
19:33what are the
19:34things man said
19:35or the tactics
19:36na ilang isulti
19:37on how the criminals
19:40would normally gain
19:42their trust?
19:44Okay.
19:45at first,
19:46they will
19:48introduce as friends
19:49or as
19:52players in
19:53online games.
19:54So,
19:54they make
19:55profile that
19:56the child can
19:57relate to.
19:58So,
19:58they can also
19:59make a profile
20:00similar to a
20:02child.
20:03Okay?
20:03Bisa hindi sila
20:04bata.
20:04Bisa hindi sila
20:05bata.
20:05Even if they're
20:06adult,
20:06they will be
20:07using a profile
20:08of a child.
20:09So,
20:09para ma-interested
20:11po ng ilang
20:11target.
20:12Okay?
20:13So,
20:13once they are
20:14friends already
20:15in the online
20:16platforms,
20:17they start
20:18to,
20:19like,
20:20give more
20:20attention
20:21to the child,
20:22to the target.
20:24Give more
20:24attention,
20:25they start to be
20:26more caring,
20:27understanding.
20:28They make the
20:29child feel
20:30that they are
20:30understood.
20:31okay?
20:33So,
20:33that's how
20:34they build
20:34trust.
20:35And sometimes,
20:36they send gifts.
20:37They send gifts
20:38to the child.
20:39So,
20:40the child
20:41would feel
20:41that they have
20:42a special
20:42relationship.
20:45And so,
20:45the child
20:46would be
20:46more comfortable
20:47with them
20:48compared to
20:49their parents.
20:50Yes,
20:50yes.
20:52Isolate
20:53niya ang bata.
20:54Correct.
20:54From there,
20:56from the
20:56outside world
20:57and they have
20:58their own world.
21:00And then,
21:01you mentioned
21:02it for the
21:05parents,
21:06the parents.
21:06But let's talk
21:07also about
21:0921 years old
21:11until
21:1130 years old.
21:14And then,
21:14the methodologies
21:16also that have
21:16been reported
21:17to earn
21:18the trust
21:20of this.
21:21Supposedly,
21:21savvy,
21:22manong taani sila.
21:23Tech savvy,
21:24manong taani sila.
21:24So,
21:26they usually,
21:27how scammers
21:29or criminals
21:29get the trust
21:31of the victims
21:33age 21 to 30,
21:35usually,
21:36they get,
21:37they offer
21:38like easy money
21:39schemes,
21:40like they offer
21:40part-time job.
21:43Ah,
21:43that's a good thing.
21:44Yeah,
21:45so,
21:45basically,
21:46at that age,
21:47they want to
21:48look for
21:48work.
21:49Yeah,
21:50for work.
21:51And so,
21:52they offer
21:52part-time job,
21:53easy jobs,
21:55just clicking
21:56something,
21:58or watching
21:59a video,
21:59you will earn
22:00something,
22:01or sharing
22:02a content,
22:03you will earn
22:04something,
22:04just easy jobs,
22:06and you will
22:06earn.
22:08And then,
22:09that's what we call
22:10investment scam.
22:12It's a task scam.
22:15Okay?
22:15It's also called
22:16an investment scam
22:17because,
22:18later on,
22:19they will ask
22:20the victims
22:21to invest something,
22:23and they will get
22:23something in return,
22:24guaranteed returns.
22:26And by the way,
22:28ahamoment po din siya na ako,
22:30as an everyday person,
22:32kay nakita agad na ako,
22:33nga,
22:33maayap mo capture
22:34ang criminal
22:35sa profiling,
22:36kay ang bata,
22:37in need of a friend,
22:39somebody they can trust,
22:40so they also act
22:41like a child,
22:43di ba?
22:43And then,
22:43sa older sad,
22:45usually love scams,
22:46kay morag,
22:47they're lonely,
22:48widower,
22:49or kanang widow,
22:51so vulnerable.
22:52And ang din his sad,
22:53kasagarang 21 to 30,
22:55ang nangitag trabaho,
22:57nangitag opportunities
22:58to earn.
22:59So din his pod
23:00ang ilaang language.
23:02Yes, yes.
23:04maayos sad.
23:04Yeah.
23:06Maayos sad
23:06yun po sila mag,
23:07magkuhan,
23:08magplano.
23:09Yes, yes.
23:09This is what they call
23:10social engineering,
23:11no?
23:11Yes,
23:12social engineering.
23:13Can you tell us more
23:13about social engineering
23:14before we leave
23:15that topic?
23:16Social engineering
23:18is like
23:19getting the
23:20interest of
23:22someone,
23:23okay,
23:24their location,
23:25their
23:27getting to know
23:28that person
23:29so that
23:29you will know
23:30how to
23:30target that person.
23:32And then,
23:33how will you
23:33get the interest
23:34of that person,
23:35then how you will
23:36get the trust
23:37of that person
23:37later on,
23:38you can victimize
23:39that person.
23:40And,
23:41going back,
23:42before I move to,
23:43going back to
23:44the scam
23:45that I was
23:46targeted,
23:47although I'm thankful
23:48na wala ko
23:49ni fall for it,
23:50katong dimensyon
23:51na kong a
23:51background noise,
23:52that social engineering
23:53also,
23:54to make them
23:55sound credible.
23:55And,
23:56by the way,
23:58kaniagi man said
23:58kung kaniang mga
23:59kaniang mga
24:00courses,
24:01supposedly,
24:02to protect me
24:02from these,
24:04humana na tong
24:05days nga,
24:06kasagalang ipangita
24:06na to is wrong
24:07grammar,
24:08wala na na,
24:09gone were the days,
24:11impeccable grammar
24:12did.
24:13Yes,
24:13they're more
24:14articulate now,
24:15they're more
24:16professional,
24:17and you can barely
24:18see the difference.
24:20Yes,
24:20even katong ilang
24:21gisend na kong a
24:22note,
24:22the logo of the
24:23bank,
24:24the letter,
24:25the signature.
24:27Yes.
24:28And then,
24:28last na lang,
24:29kaniang mga
24:29passionate ko
24:30about it.
24:30And what they
24:31did to me,
24:32pagid,
24:32is they
24:33escalated me
24:34to a special
24:35queue.
24:36And I was
24:37talking to
24:37their manager
24:38because of
24:39me being
24:40a VIP client.
24:42So,
24:43I was really
24:44kaniang mga
24:45nindot ang
24:46reception gini.
24:47Very
24:47impressive.
24:48And when I
24:48spoke to the
24:49manager,
24:49she really
24:50sounded like
24:51an outstanding
24:53manager.
24:54for example,
24:57the crime
24:59in my case,
25:00so,
25:01kaniang mga
25:01katong
25:02range in
25:03terms of
25:04kanang
25:05typical
25:06targets.
25:08Kung
25:08nahitabo na
25:09ang crime,
25:10granting,
25:11I fell for
25:12the trap,
25:12what should
25:13I do?
25:14So,
25:15if you
25:16were
25:17scammed,
25:18first is
25:19don't panic.
25:20Okay?
25:20And don't
25:22continue
25:22communicating
25:23with the
25:23scammer.
25:24money is
25:26involved,
25:27contact your
25:27bank,
25:28the e-wallet
25:30provider,
25:31or the
25:31financial
25:32institution,
25:33and report
25:34the transaction
25:35immediately.
25:36So,
25:37if your
25:37account also
25:38is compromised,
25:39you immediately
25:40change the
25:41password and
25:42enable two-factor
25:43authentication.
25:45And second
25:46is you need
25:47to preserve
25:48the evidence.
25:49So,
25:49don't delete
25:50the messages,
25:51don't delete
25:52the conversation.
25:53Also,
25:54take screenshots
25:55of the
25:56conversation,
25:57emails,
25:58usernames,
25:59phone numbers,
26:00and the
26:01transaction records.
26:02So,
26:03even small
26:04details,
26:04you keep
26:05them.
26:05And third
26:06is you
26:07report the
26:07incident to
26:08the
26:08authorities.
26:10Kanilang siya
26:11and you may
26:12or kanang
26:13you may have
26:13the data
26:14or not.
26:15But at least
26:15katong IT
26:16manager who
26:19reached out
26:19siya after
26:20I posted
26:20what happened
26:21on social
26:21media because
26:22ako I did
26:23not fall
26:24sa scam
26:25but he
26:26fell
26:27sa scam.
26:28And he
26:29said,
26:29aside from
26:30wala na lang
26:30siya ni-report,
26:31aside from
26:31the embarrassment,
26:32he's supposed
26:33to be
26:33tech savvy
26:34but fell
26:35for the
26:35trap.
26:36The other
26:36thing also,
26:37ang madungga
26:38nila once
26:39what happened
26:40mag-diretso
26:41seconds lang
26:41yun daw.
26:42As soon as
26:42he gave
26:42the OTP,
26:43wala na.
26:45Naka-withdraw,
26:46nag-yugsunod-sunod.
26:47So,
26:48what are the
26:49chances man
26:50for people
26:51like him
26:51to still
26:52recover the
26:53amount?
26:54Kaya murag
26:55mong puto
26:55nga wala
26:55na lang siya
26:56ni-report.
26:56Kaya murag
26:57para niya,
26:58murag di naman
26:59puto na
26:59ko ma-recover.
27:00But in
27:00your
27:01experience,
27:01na ba
27:02positive
27:03indicators
27:04nga
27:04when they
27:05reported
27:06if
27:06na-recover
27:07pa nila
27:07tong
27:07ipang
27:08withdraw?
27:08Yes,
27:09we have
27:09continue,
27:10sige.
27:10So,
27:11we have
27:13cases that
27:13the victims
27:14were able
27:15to recover
27:15if they
27:18report it
27:18right away
27:19to the
27:20bank
27:20and to
27:21the
27:21authorities.
27:23But there
27:24are also
27:24instances
27:25na
27:26wala na
27:27na-recover.
27:27So,
27:28case-to-case
27:28basis.
27:29But there
27:30are also
27:31positive
27:33outcomes
27:34na-recover
27:36nila
27:36ang ilahang
27:37lost money.
27:39But that's
27:40actually
27:40a
27:43glimmer
27:43of hope
27:44na-recover
27:45pag-idi
27:46or worst
27:48case,
27:49at least
27:49reported.
27:50At least
27:51reported.
27:53So,
27:53once
27:54said
27:54ng mga
27:54platforms,
27:55so,
27:56balik napunta
27:56sa kaning
27:56mga
27:57parents,
27:57with
27:57young
27:58kids,
27:58what are
28:03other
28:04platforms
28:04na
28:05parents
28:05should
28:06be
28:06more
28:06careful
28:08if
28:08their
28:09child
28:09is
28:09into
28:10this
28:10type
28:11of
28:11platforms?
28:12Or,
28:13kung
28:13mananghid
28:14naman lang,
28:14ilan
28:14na lang
28:15balibaran
28:16da,
28:16para
28:16din
28:16makasulod
28:17aning
28:17kind
28:17of
28:18platform?
28:18Actually,
28:19any
28:19platforms
28:20where
28:21children
28:21can
28:22communicate
28:22with
28:23people
28:23they
28:24don't
28:24know.
28:25For
28:25example,
28:26social
28:26media,
28:27Facebook,
28:29TikTok,
28:31Instagram,
28:32Snapchat.
28:33So,
28:33those are
28:34the popular
28:34social media
28:35here.
28:36And also,
28:36messaging apps
28:37like
28:37Messenger.
28:38That's how
28:39criminals
28:40target or
28:41start to
28:42communicate
28:42with
28:44children.
28:46And then,
28:47the other
28:47thing,
28:48and I think
28:48somebody posted
28:49this on
28:50social media
28:50after the
28:51incidents in
28:52Tacloban
28:52and Zamboanga.
28:54Usahin
28:54to their parents
28:55because
28:57ilatonggi
28:57control
28:58ang gadgets
28:59sa ilang
28:59anak.
29:00But,
29:00dali-dali
29:01sila
29:01nagsinamok
29:02ang bata
29:02ihatag
29:03their phone.
29:04Which is
29:05for parents,
29:06for adult,
29:07ang
29:07mga
29:09nahitabo
29:09sa ilang
29:10kanan.
29:10Because
29:10subconscious
29:11naman nila
29:11nga.
29:12They're
29:13talking with
29:13their
29:13friend and
29:14chuchuchuchu.
29:14Okay,
29:15okay,
29:15anak.
29:16So,
29:17na-expose
29:17na nun
29:18ang bata
29:18sa mga
29:19restricted
29:19sites
29:20that
29:21unfortunately,
29:21the parent
29:22is accessing.
29:23Sige,
29:25karoon,
29:26sa una,
29:26when I was
29:27a kid,
29:28I was always
29:29told by my parents,
29:30especially when
29:31kanang dili na sila
29:32makakuyog na ako
29:33but to bring me
29:33to school
29:34is just the
29:35driver.
29:36But anyway,
29:38ang common
29:38reminder
29:39nila is
29:40don't talk
29:40to strangers.
29:42100%
29:43nila.
29:43Kung tagagag
29:43candy,
29:44don't accept.
29:45100%
29:46sa na.
29:46In the
29:47online space,
29:49unsa ang
29:49mga
29:51equivalent
29:52reminders
29:55don't talk
29:56to strangers
29:57is a good
29:57advice.
29:58Still,
29:58still a good
29:59advice
29:59but it's
30:01no longer
30:01enough.
30:02So,
30:03the problem
30:03is that
30:04online
30:04predators
30:05don't always
30:06appear
30:06as a
30:07stranger.
30:08So,
30:08they may
30:08appear
30:09or pretend
30:10to be
30:10another
30:10child
30:11or someone
30:12the child
30:12knows.
30:13They're
30:14using a
30:15profile
30:15of someone
30:17that the
30:17child
30:17knows
30:18or someone
30:19who shares
30:19the same
30:20interest.
30:20as a
30:23parent,
30:24tell
30:25children
30:26or your
30:26kids to
30:27be
30:27cautious
30:27when
30:28someone
30:28online
30:29asks for
30:30your
30:30personal
30:31information,
30:32your
30:33private
30:33photos,
30:34or they
30:36will say
30:36it's a
30:37secret
30:37between
30:37us.
30:38So,
30:40you should
30:41teach
30:41your
30:42children
30:42that you
30:43should be
30:44cautious
30:45when that
30:45happens.
30:47And
30:48sometimes
30:49online
30:49predators
30:50try to
30:51move
30:51the
30:53victims
30:53to another
30:54platform.
30:54Like,
30:55for example,
30:55online
30:56gaming,
30:56and they
30:57will ask
30:57their
30:58victim
30:59to move
31:00to another
31:01private
31:01messaging
31:02application.
31:03So,
31:04it's
31:05difficult
31:05to
31:06trace
31:07those
31:07or to
31:08track
31:08for
31:09parents
31:09to
31:09track
31:10those
31:10conversations.
31:11So,
31:12we should
31:13teach
31:13our
31:13children
31:14that not
31:15everyone
31:15online
31:16is
31:16who
31:17they
31:17claim
31:17to be.
31:18Very good.
31:19Because
31:19it's easy
31:21to create
31:21a fake
31:22profile.
31:23Very
31:23good
31:24reminder.
31:25And
31:25remember
31:27when you
31:28said
31:28earlier
31:29they also
31:29send
31:30gifts.
31:30So,
31:31the equivalent
31:31is
31:32if you
31:32accept
31:32candy
31:33100%
31:34is
31:34canasad.
31:35Red
31:36plug
31:36if
31:36somebody
31:37is
31:37sending
31:38you
31:38a gift
31:38and
31:39then
31:39it's
31:40a secret.
31:41It's
31:42a secret.
31:42I think
31:43it's
31:43a secret.
31:45Especially
31:45once
31:46the child
31:47aka
31:48child
31:49begins
31:50to tell
31:51their
31:51children
31:51this is
31:52just
31:52between
31:53us.
31:54That means
31:55isolate
31:56na
31:57siya.
