00:00The Prime Minister is tripling down on her position that violent and rogue students should be removed from schools.
00:06Kamala Passat-Bissess is now challenging those opposed to the move to take those students into their own homes and
00:12deal with them.
00:12In a statement this afternoon, she also accused critics of putting the safety of teachers and well-behaved students at
00:20risk.
00:22The debate continues over the Prime Minister's position that misbehaving students ought to be sent home from schools.
00:28The PM herself is not doubling down, but tripling down.
00:33In a statement posted to social media this afternoon, Kamala Passat-Bissess goes further.
00:38She challenges those who are opposed to the removal of violent, disrespectful students from schools to, quote-unquote,
00:46take them into your own homes with your own families and deal with them, end quote.
00:51She maintains that everyday, decent, hardworking, law-abiding citizens work hard to earn an income to send their children to
00:59school
00:59in the hope that they will be provided with a good education in a safe environment.
01:05But Passat-Bissess says thousands enter schools in fear because violent students are waiting in schools to beat, rob, harass
01:13and terrorize them.
01:14She says, quote, they cannot study properly because of the constant fear, despair and depression causing their education to suffer
01:22and their futures to be stolen from them, end quote.
01:27Passat-Bissess says this cannot be fair to well-behaved students and their hardworking parents who hope for a brighter
01:33future.
01:34She recounted the demise of 15-year-old Jaden Lalchan, who took his own life due to constant bullying and
01:41abuse
01:42from another student at St. Stephen's College in Princess Town.
01:46Passat-Bissess says, quote,
01:48Tutor, NPTA and the PNM have done nothing and will continue to do nothing to keep our teachers and children
01:55safe
01:56from violent students and parents in our schools.
01:59These three groups complained about police being used to protect our teachers and children in schools
02:04and are now fighting to keep violent, out-of-control abusive students inside our schools
02:11to continue terrorizing and brutalizing our teachers and students, end quote.
02:16She says those groups who are opposed will not help children who are victims of violent bullies
02:21or fall into depression and become suicidal.
02:24The PM says her government is standing up for the safety of students
02:29She says, quote,
02:31I invite those of you who are against the removal of violent, disrespectful students from our schools
02:36to volunteer to take these students into your own homes with your own families and deal with them.
02:42These persons would never do that because they would never want their own families endangered,
02:48but they have no problem with your children being put in danger, end quote.
02:53Passat-Bissess says the good, hardworking, law-abiding citizens
02:56and their diligent, disciplined children should not be made to suffer
03:00because of the wicked, uncaring actions of others.
