00:02Police revealed this incredibly sad news overnight that this little boy, an 11 year old,
00:08has lost his fight for life here at the Royal Children's Hospital.
00:12He was flown here in a critical condition after that devastating crash out in Parwan,
00:19which is about 45 kilometres west of Melbourne CBD,
00:23right on the fringes of suburbia in the outer west in fact.
00:26And that's where a seven year old girl was declared dead at the scene.
00:32That's despite the best efforts of paramedics.
00:35Now there were another three children who were also taken here to the Royal Children's Hospital
00:41in a non-life threatening condition and remain here.
00:45We haven't received an update as to their condition as yet.
00:49And a further two children were taken to the Sunshine Hospital in Melbourne's west,
00:55as well as the mother being taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital,
00:59which is just down the road from here for observation.
01:02We have heard from Major Collision Investigation Unit's Detective Sergeant Tony Gentilly.
01:10He says that first responders were confronted with an incredibly distressing scene when they arrived.
01:17The scene was quite hectic with family coming as well.
01:21Yeah.
01:21And there were people everywhere, witnesses who witnessed it.
01:25They stopped and rendered assistance.
01:27And obviously with seven children they were distressed and they were cared for by paramedics,
01:34members of the public and police.
01:35That's Detective Sergeant Tony Gentilly from the Major Collision Investigation Unit.
01:41And he says this eight-seater four-wheel drive contained those seven children as well as a mother,
01:48who he says had just completed the school pick-up run when the car inexplicably rolled.
01:55Now, he doesn't think that there was any other vehicle which was involved in this accident,
02:01nor does he believe that drugs or alcohol played a part in this tragedy.
02:07But he has said that they are asking for anybody who witnessed this crash or who has dash cam footage
02:13to get in contact with them as they try to piece together exactly what happened out in Parwan.
02:20In fact, MCIU detectives spent a large part of the night not wrapping up until about one o'clock in
02:27the morning
02:28processing the scene and searching for those clues.

02:39and first responders had to try to comfort them as well as the children who had been injured so devastatingly
