00:02Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon is leaving the AI industry over concerns that companies
00:07are racing to build self-improving systems they may not be able to control, according
00:13to the Wall Street Journal. The two 70-year-old researcher said he is leaving Anthropic over
00:17fears that the AI industry's race to build self-improving systems could lead to technology
00:23that escapes human control and destroys humanity. Coxon joined Anthropic earlier this year after
00:29leaving OpenAI because of Anthropic's reputation for AI safety. He now believes no company can
00:35responsibly develop artificial general intelligence without government intervention or a coordinated
00:40industry slowdown. More than 1,000 AI researchers, including Coxon, Pachaki, and Amode, called for
00:47global coordination to slow AI development if self-improving models become difficult to control.
