00:00So if I had to assess the election result, I would say it's a watershed election. It's not just simply
00:08another victory for the AfD. It's more than that. We may see a fundamental shift in the political system, at
00:15least in the party system of Germany, with a distinct new role of the AfD.
00:20The hierarchy between the Christian Democrats and the AfD has changed in Saxony-Anhalt, and it may, so to say,
00:31goes beyond that.
00:33And this switch of roles makes the AfD, at least in the east part of Germany, a very dominant role
00:41in the party system.
00:43And I think this is what we have seen now in Saxony-Anhalt and may see beyond that more often.
00:52The Chancellor has already suffered a loss of authority during the last month, at least.
01:00He was of no help during the election campaign in Saxony-Anhalt.
01:05Instead, he was a burden. He could not really join forces together with Sven Schulze in order to apply to
01:14voters and try to be more appealing for the Christian Democratic voters.
01:21So I think in the end, he has to consider that he has suffered another, well, self-damaging effect from
01:32this election.
01:34And it may not be the end of his chancellorship, but it is certainly another round of questioning him as
01:42a party leader.
01:44Right-wing populist parties have benefited from the angry male, angry young male, in many cases, movement.
01:53And this was also the case with the AfD in the beginning.
01:59With respect to the election result in Saxony-Anhalt, you can say that this is more or less over.
02:06Now the appearance of a catch-all party means that basically there is no real differences anymore.
02:12And the social democratic outlook of the party, it reaches far beyond distinct groups and is successful basically also in
02:24attracting voters from the center.
