Hello, citizens of Acity!
Today’s featured work, [Front & Back], was created based on the core theories of the sociologist Erving Goffman: "The Presentation of Self" and the concepts of "Front/Back Stage." Goffman viewed social life as a theater performance. People perform a perfect version of themselves in the "Front Stage" where they are seen by others, but only in the "Back Stage," where there is no audience, do they take off their masks and reveal their true existence. This project visualizes the psychological labor modern individuals must endure to maintain their roles by contrasting the glamor of the stage with the solitude of the dressing room.
The line "Playing perfect under lights, Front Stage!" in the lyrics sings of the curated self demanded by society. Furthermore, the exclamation "Crashing down behind the scene, Back Stage!" honestly expresses the isolation and fatigue hidden behind the glamorous image.
A time that begins only after the bright stage lights fade. Following the gaze of the designer as she sheds her perfect persona to return to "me," I hope you enjoy a time of pleasant contemplation as you step away from the gaze of others and face your true self.
