00:00Gather up some old ladders to try this whimsical idea for your yard.
00:05I positioned both A-frame ladders against each side of the bench,
00:09resting them against the armrests, taking note where the ladders touch the bench.
00:15So glad to finally have a good use for this. I continued to dry fit my idea by placing the
00:22long wooden ladder along the top of the two A-frame ladders. It fit perfectly.
00:27Using just a few screws makes for easy disassembly for quick winter storage if desired.
00:33I think that's going to be just fine. I then reached for some scrap wood boards I already
00:38had cut and positioned them across the opening along the top horizontal ladder creating an
00:44instant shelf of sorts, which was the perfect spot to plunk a huge beautiful fern. I then
00:50hung a hanging flower basket from one of the rungs on the other side of the ladder.
01:04I rolled out a cable spool top I had in my storage along with four collected pin legs I got
01:10from the
01:10curb. What a wonderful score that was! After flipping the cable reel good side down I positioned each pin
01:17leg on the reel then attached them with screws. After rolling the table into my desired position
01:23I placed another basket of flowers along one edge. And of course to finalize the space some flowers,
01:30an LED lamp, some books and a fresh cup of coffee completed my new Garden Arbor Oasis. This space is
01:37now the perfect spot to enjoy a rest from yard work or bring out a fresh coffee to just enjoy
01:42the view.
01:43By pushing this table off to the side it creates this cozy little unexpected nook. The table is
01:49right next to you exactly where you need it, yet there's still plenty of room to get out when desired.
01:55Well my goodness I feel so special! I can't believe I have this beautiful outdoor space. It offers
02:03additional shade when I need it, a special place for my coffee and to sit down and enjoy the rest
02:10of the yard
02:11for a spell. This was a good idea thanks to just three ladders. Cheers!
02:19If you'd like to instantly enhance your home with an easy decorative idea consider picking up an old
02:25stepladder. After getting an old wooden stepladder home I'm giving it a light sweep to clean it off
02:30then a light scuff sand to remove any rough areas. One could also paint it as well, however I'm choosing
02:37to leave it as is to display its authentic finish. To add display stability I'm attaching two large brackets
02:44to the top of the ladder. Each bracket is getting screwed to the top of the ladder then it can
02:49be
02:49attached to a wall once positioned. I'm now lifting the ladder and placing it against my desire wall.
02:55Since I'm choosing to leave the entire ladder intact for future repurposed projects I'm pulling both
03:00sets of legs against each other then tying them together using a dark heavy twine on each side.
03:06I'm wrapping the twine around both legs several times then trimming and knotting the twine together
03:12from the inside. Then unraveling each of the end cuts so they appear like they've been there forever.
03:18Reaching for a carpenter's level I'm placing the level on one step then adjusting the ladder position
03:23until the steps sit level. Repositioning the ladder will also self-adjust the secured top brackets.
03:30Now I'm shopping my own collections gathering up some like-minded trinkets I'd like to display.
03:36Now I'm selecting a decorative hook and attaching it near the top of the ladder with screws.
03:41Next up I'm choosing a scrap piece of wood that is closely toned to the ladder wood and cutting it
03:47to
03:47the length of a lower step using a miter saw. This extension is being placed on a ladder step then
03:54is being attached with a screw from the underside. Moving over to all my group collections I'm deciding
04:00where each piece will be displayed. Since I desire to display an antique picture I don't wish to
04:06permanently modify I'm attaching a door pull to the underside of a ladder step so the picture frame
04:12can simply rest against it. This little hack makes the frame's placement adjustable as well.
04:18I'm attaching a clip-on light to the very top of the ladder for added ambience when desired.
04:24To hide the light cord I'm running it down one ladder leg then weaving it in between a few screws
04:29to
04:29hold it in place. And now I'm loading up the ladder. A cozy blanket is being hung from a hook
04:35then chosen
04:36collections are being placed on each step where desired. Some items are getting stacked to create
04:41more height so all the ladder spaces get filled up more so. And the end result is a beautifully curated
04:47collection of all my favorite things to look at with added side table perks. I love how the ladder adds
04:54height
04:54allowing for plenty of many shelves to store all my favorite things. It's said that to fully love your
05:00home that you should display all the things you love to look at and this ladder shelf certainly does it
05:05for me. Plus the added shelf gives more space for my coffee and creates a deeper shelf to display
05:11something larger. Then turn on the light and you have extra ambience that will really be appreciated in
05:17the evenings. An adjustable light that simply clips on is an easy add. It can be positioned to either display
05:24your collections or twist it to the side if you decide to do some reading or writing. This ladder
05:29shelf could also be used to hang pictures or showcase all your favorite reading books. You get to choose.
05:35So my ladder is looking a lot more shabby than chic right now so I think I'm going to give
05:43it a paint
05:44job with some of the lovely yellow color I have left from my mini bedroom makeover. How awesome does that
05:53look now? It is absolutely perfect with the wall and my upcycled wardrobe. I'm going to start with a heavy
06:02big hardcover book and that will just go on the bottom and the books are resting on the rungs as
06:11well as
06:21a couple of small ones for the top. So you can see here how the books are actually sitting resting
06:30on the ladder rungs so they lean up against this side of the ladder and then the side leans up
06:39against the wall and then of course the bottom
06:42is sitting on the bottom is sitting on the ladder rung. So now it's time to grab your belts or
06:47pieces of
06:48belts and this is what we're going to use to attach the ladder to the wall and just going to
06:54wrap it
06:55around and try to use as many of the original belt holes as possible. With this one I think I
07:03might
07:03be able to use only one this is exactly the position that I will need to mark to put my
07:10screw into the wall
07:13so I have my cute little mini drill here and I'm just going to go straight through the original belt
07:21hole
07:22to create a hole on the underside and make a mark on my wall and now that I know exactly
07:33the position
07:34of my holes in my belt I can go ahead and trim off the excess. So now I have to
07:43make this hole larger
07:45so I can add my screw anchors and my screws.
07:48Now it is finally time to attach this to the wall so I have already started my screw in through
07:57the front
07:58part of the belt and I'm going to wrap that around position it in the right place
08:08like so and start the screw a little bit through the leather here because it can be kind of picky
08:16and screw it in.
08:21So now my first rung is totally secure I'm going to grab a couple more belts and repeat the whole
08:29process
08:29on the second rung and the third rung. So now I have all of my belts on my ladder rungs
08:38and it is very,
08:40very sturdy. It is not going to go anywhere. I can add my books. I mean how fantastic does that
08:48look
08:49and it makes a wonderful spot for my secret book save.
