01:24In Venezuela more than 6 million students are returning to classrooms on Monday for the 2026-2027
01:30academic year following intensive rehabilitation efforts.
01:33According to Education Minister Hector Rodriguez, 84% of the educational infrastructure damaged
01:39by two recent earthquakes in central states including La Guayra, Caracas, Miranda and Aragua
01:44have been restored.
01:46Authorities reported that out of more than 27,000 schools nationwide, 900 sustained structural
01:52damages from the seismic events.
01:54Rebuilding efforts has been specifically focused on La Guayra, where 239 out of 290 affected schools
02:01were prepared in less than two months.
02:04Educational guidelines for the start of the term emphasize emotional support and student
02:08well-being as primary priorities alongside academic activities.
02:22Nicaragua's co-presidents Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo emphasized this Sunday that unity, peace,

06:20As Paris emerges from months of oppressive heat, cooler autumn temperatures are welcome back like a long-lost friend.

06:33I've been thinking about the difficult life of homeless people for a very long time
06:39and I think that just heat waves kind of made it so much worse and I could see how difficult
06:45it was for people.
06:50And as you rightly said that usually winter is the hardest part for homeless people
06:55and now we have a situation where both winter and summer are horrific.
07:00Antonova has had to keep moving from temporary accommodations since arriving in France four years ago from Russia.
07:06Although France helped, she was often coping with living under bad conditions with mental stress and little money.
07:13The acute suffering of the homeless resonated with her and she felt anguish at not being able to help them
07:19more.
07:20And it's just such a contrast especially in the district where I live where some people, not a lot of
07:29people actually,
07:29but some people do have air conditioner or they work in the very kind of posh air conditioner offices
07:35and there are homeless people sleeping in front of those windows with people where they have air conditioner and people
07:44which have nothing.
07:46And also I think like everyone who lives on the street or do some sort of work on the street,
07:56it was incredibly hard.
08:00And honestly, I cannot even imagine how people did survive.
08:03Her drawings show homeless people clinging to their knees, hunched forward in despair or curled up on pavements in apparent
08:10defeat.

11:42During the meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered an important statement, proposing that the greater BRICS encompassing members, partner countries,
11:50and interested nations could establish an integrated internal market.
11:54He called for joint efforts to safeguard supply chains and transport corridors, building on his remarks from yesterday, where he
11:59indicated that BRICS would play a larger role and resolve the Middle East conflict stemming from the attack on Iran.
12:04President Xi emphasized that this expanded coalition could also collaborate in key sectors such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy,
12:11manufacturing, science, and development.
12:15Russian President Vladimir Putin also addressed the assembly, asserting that the Global South must establish an insurance mechanism to shield
12:22countries against sanctions like those targeting Russia and Iran.
12:26Iranian President Massoud Pazeshkian had presented a similar proposal yesterday.
12:31While Putin did not detail the exact mechanics, he stressed the need to protect national economies from sanction-related damages,
12:37a clear reference to ongoing initiatives aimed at developing payment systems independent of SWIFT and the U.S. dollar.
12:43Additionally, Putin argued that the Global South needs to build its own global governance structures to counter both traditional and
12:49non-traditional threats, noting that Russia faces a Western-supported conflict in Ukraine while Iran and other nations confront serious
12:56external risks.
12:57As host of the summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered the closing remarks.
13:01He called for a fundamental overhaul of the global power structure, comparing the current system to a pyramid where a
13:07select few at the top make decisions while the Global South is forced to comply.

13:21manner with direct, tangible benefits for citizens.
13:24India proposed a society-centric model of integration focused on business-to-business and people-to-people connections beyond the
13:31purely governmental level, an approach strongly endorsed by members like South Africa.
13:35South African President Cyril Ramaphosa highlighted the consensus achieved in the final declaration as a major victory, given the conflicting
13:43stances among members regarding the attack on Iran.
13:45While the United Arab Emirates and Iran hold opposing positions in the conflict, both BRICS members agreed on a unified
13:51statement.
13:51Furthermore, Indian diplomacy successfully brought leaders from both nations to the same table in New Delhi for the first time
13:57since the conflict began.

18:58For Ajuda, wood became an alternative to cement because conventional construction materials remain difficult to obtain.
19:04But he says the improvised structure cannot replace the home his family once had.
19:09The main reason of using wood was due to the lack of construction materials and supplies.
19:15While we used wood as a substitute for cement, it certainly does not replace our original cement homes.
19:23In central Gaza, another displaced resident has taken an even more basic approach.
19:27After months of living in tents, Khalil Abu Ramadan began building a room for his family using mud moulds.
19:33With conventional building materials severely restricted, he turned to an ancient construction technique, researching how similar structures were built in
19:40the past.
19:40He says the decision came from the need to find protection from Gaza's extreme temperatures, while his family remained without
19:46a permanent home.
19:49The idea of building a room out of mud came to me because we were living in tents that offered
19:54no protection against the winter cold or the summer heat.
19:58I researched on the internet how our ancestors used to build such structures and put that knowledge into practice.
20:05But even this low-cost alternative presented major obstacles.
20:09Abu Ramadan says he had to obtain the mud from areas within the yellow line, while water shortages made the
20:14construction process even more difficult.
20:16A project that he says could normally have taken about a week, instead lasted more than a month.
20:24I faced many challenges, starting with the mud itself.
20:28I had to bring it from the eastern areas from within the yellow line, designated by the occupation army.
20:34My friends and I would take risks to bring the mud back and build with it.
20:39We also struggled greatly with water shortages as the supply arrived only once a week.
20:45Under normal circumstances, I could build this house in a week if the resources were available.
20:51But due to these difficulties, it took me over a month to complete.
20:58The same struggle is playing out in Gaza City, where residents are also trying to restore damaged businesses and homes.
21:04Isma Dader has been using fabric and other available materials to repair buildings that were damaged or burned, helping some
21:11owners make their properties usable again or reopen their businesses.
21:14But the scarcity of basic supplies has pushed prices sharply higher.
21:18A box of screws that once cost around 30 shekels can now cost as much as 600, while some fabric
21:24has increased from around 15 or 20 shekels a meter to more than 70.
21:28Dader says these repairs are not about restoring what existed before, but about creating spaces where people can once again
21:34live and work.
21:41Our homeland is gone, our homes are gone, and the commercial facilities that secured our income and supported our families
21:47and education are lost.
21:49We had no choice but to try to improve the visual environment, creating something livable amidst the reality we face,
21:54and in the shadow of closed crossings and the resulting psychological and physical trauma that we, our children, and all
22:01families in the community here in Gaza are facing.
22:08Aid agencies have warned that rebuilding Gaza on a large scale could take years because of the extent of the
22:13destruction and restrictions on construction materials entering the territory.
22:17In the meantime, residents are relying on improvised solutions to rebuild what they can, one room, one home, and one
22:22business at a time.
