Steve summons Peter and Toyah to discuss the sale and tells them they been outbid by someone offering £10,000 more. The new potential bidder arrives - it's Nick. Nick is happy to admit he's putting the bid in through sheer vindictiveness and insults are swapped between him, Steve and Peter. Steve announces he's changed his mind and he's no longer selling. Telling Steve he's a fool, Nick walks out. Peter and Toyah ask for another chance but Steve tells them he realises what the Rovers means to him and he's not selling.

00:00yesterday, Steve. You're trying to pull a fast one so you can up the price. No, look, I really
00:04want to sell to you guys. Nobody in their right mind is going to pay that kind of money for
00:08this place, Steve. Well, I wouldn't be so sure. Er, you said you were expecting him.
00:18You've got no interest in owning this place. Well, obviously it has. But you've got a business
00:24down the street. It's nothing to do with a business, Liz. He knows he's paying well
00:29over the Aussie. He just doesn't care. Oh, I disagree. You said yourself we're going
00:33to be rivals. You know, there's a lot of added value in this deal for me. Oh, I can't believe
00:37you'd be so vindictive. Look, nothing's been signed for you. Oh, well, I'm really glad to
00:41hear it. When did you think of telling me? He only phoned me this afternoon. Look, if
00:46you want a match, he's off for them. No, we can't. Steve, we're overstretching ourselves
00:50as it is. Oh, really? OK, I'm going to reduce my offer by five grand now. What? Oh, come
00:56it's just business. Yeah. I want business. You can't muck us about like this. It really
01:00isn't personal. Yeah, everything's personal to you. It's just because you've got nothing
01:04in your own life, you have to mess up other people's, don't you? Oh, is that right?
01:08Yeah, that's right. OK. If you're going to play silly beggars, take it outside.
01:12All right, Liz, don't worry. I wouldn't graze me knuckles on him. No, you've got a payment
01:15to do that for you, haven't you? Come on, face it, Peter. You've lost. Sorry, I didn't know.
01:20I didn't know it was a competition. Does this make you feel more like a man?
01:24What? Yeah, knowing that your missus had to go to him, that can't be very good for
01:27any bloke's self-esteem, can it? Excuse me. Stop it! This is still my house! Yeah, Peter,
01:33just leave him. Let him have his moment. Do you know what? There is more to life than
01:37this pub. I'm glad you feel that way. Not sure what I'm going to do in the place. Might
01:42turn it to a really nice house, you know? Eliminate the competition, make a bit of money
01:46on top. Really? Is that what you're going to do with it? Yeah, haven't decided.
01:51He doesn't know, because he doesn't really want it, Liz. Look, give us more time. No.
01:58No, I've made me mind up. Okay? It's not stupid. No, I'm not. That's why I'm not going to
02:03sell it to you. I'm not going to sell it to either of you. I understand you're turning
02:08him down, Steve. He never really wanted the place but ours, you know? That was a genuine
02:11offer. I know it was. Well, then why are you chucking it back in our faces? I'm warning you,
02:16Steve. You walk out of this room without shaking my hand. The bid's off the table.
02:20Oh, and which bid is that? The one that's five grand more or ten grand more? Ten. That's
02:25what it takes. Do you know what? I can't believe Leanne would let you stab us in the back like
02:28this. Oh, she's right behind me in everything I do. She's just thinking of Cy. She knows
02:33it's pure insanity to let him go anywhere near a pub. Let's go on. Need an answer.
02:40It's now or never? Well, right now, it's never. You're a bigger fool than I thought you were.
02:51Now that he's gone, can you answer my question? Why wouldn't you sell to us? I mean, we'd run
02:56this place properly. We'd respect all the hard work you've put in. We've been totally straight
03:00with you. I think we deserve to know why you're letting us down, Steve. It is a fair question.
03:09Well, while you lot were scrapping like dogs over a bone, it brought it home to me what
03:12this place means. I don't want to sell it. No one's going to force me to. Michelle might
03:16have something to say about that. Well, Michelle can say what she likes. All right. I did the
03:19dirty on her. Fine. I'm sorry. Well, she's landed on her feet, hasn't she? She's got a new
03:23boyfriend, new job, posh new flat. I've got two kids to support, so that's what I'm going to do.
03:30Look, uh, my dad needs to see me, so I'm going to go. Peter, um, what, mate? I did mean
03:36to lead you up the garden path. Yeah, but you did, Steve. I won't forget that.
03:41Good morning, Steve. Okay.
03:42Okay.
