04:26but he now understands that one the sideline is his friend the sideline he can use as defender or if

04:34misses heavy to to the outside then he has extra bodies in a Javon Holland Tremaine Edmonds coming in
04:40to clean up a great job by Drew Phillips here taking on a double team splitting that block being aggressive
04:47at the point of contact and tackling one hell of a football player especially when he gets the football
04:53into his hands in open space in the CeeDee Lamb and those two got a little bit of beef right

04:59you know that's always a great feeling and watch Drewski step up oh go ahead Drewski do the dance
05:06but great play for no yardage right here especially when the Cowboys come in with a or put a run

06:24Abdul Carter one thing that Abdul Carter talked about uh down in West Virginia and you guys gonna
06:29hear me mention training camp down in West Virginia because I got to see where the foundation
06:33was laid when it came to this run defense I know it started in the spring but there's no pads

06:39during the spring and you saw uh head uh defense coordinator and Denar Wilson constantly screaming
06:46coaching and not screaming like he was upset but coaching screaming to his defensive front about
06:52staying in gaps gap integrity gap discipline and then you heard a guy like Abdul Carter talk about how he
06:59wanted to be better setting the edge and being involved in the run game more going into his second
07:04year in the NFL watch Abdul Carter straight up b-word a grown man and then we'll go back and
07:15we'll watch
07:15Kayvon and what he's able to do as well but first and this is where it starts being nasty in
07:21the run game
07:22that's why I say let's go get nasty in the trenches because it's all about want obviously gap integrity
07:28and being in the right position yeah that's awesome that's you know that's the x's and o's but when
07:33it comes to stopping the run it comes down to the jimmies and joes and having guys that want to
07:38stop the
07:39run and this is a I want to stop the run mentality this tight end gets pushed twice one by
07:45Abdul Carter
07:46one by their own running back he gets he gets thrown out the club once I watch this one twice

07:53embarrassing when you watch that on tape Monday Tuesday whatever you that's that's that's embarrassing
08:01all right so we saw Abdul there now watch Kayvon in this backside effort Kayvon is shaded to the outside
08:08heavy outside like a nine technique wide nine technique at this uh this left tackle watch him beat him to

08:21saw that wrestling he doing all that wrestling he does in the offseason great job great job attacking upfield

09:50wasn't even down with the Giants in in West Virginia for training camp so this is a guy that's obviously
09:56coming in these are two deaf pieces in the middle that's holding it down clogging up these lanes and
10:02allowing the DNs or the edge rushers and these linebackers to get in and get involved for another
10:10run game of zero nothing nada zip you didn't see too many of these from the Giants last season in

10:19of the run defense especially in that week two matchup against the Cowboys

11:47double team and again we talk about splitting these double teams if you can split them that's a win if
11:54you can split them make the tackle for the for a loss that's a double plus that's a double check
11:58if you can split hold your ground that's a check if you can just hold your ground that's a you

12:05that's a positive play but if you get pushed back into the paint into the end zone that is a

12:10play because now you've got space you've got push by the offensive line and it muddies up which gap
12:20these backs can insert to meet these running backs but the fact that I think it's Okoye the fact that
12:29he's playing this tough and he there is no push by this offensive line
12:37in this a gap at all and then you have Abdul Carter being strong and he you see this hole

12:45if Abdul Carter is getting pushed out that hole widens and then it makes it harder for the one-on

13:13because it's goal line to try and lower his head and just get push to get through this hole here

13:58fourth down hands up fourth down this is something we didn't see from the Giants defensive for that
14:06front seven you make upgrades in free agency to bring in Shelby Harris DJ reader Jermaine Edmonds you
14:16draft Arvel Reese who we didn't even talk about much in this but he made some plays throughout the
14:21course of the night but these are the three plays I wanted to highlight to you guys where
14:25the Giants defense and the Giants specifically the Giants run defense looks like and they're giving hope
14:33to this fan base into the franchise that Denard Wilson has come in and he's cleaned it up onto the
14:42Rams
14:46Giants run defense got after it throughout the course of the night but I should also mention
14:52because situational context matters the Giants did lead most of that game so some of Dallas's low
14:59rushing attempts that does reflect how the game went and how plays were called on their end obviously
15:06you're down you're going to throw the football to try and make up that deficit but on the flip side
15:12of
15:13things when you're talking about the Giants run defense that was a great start to the season
15:17to that side of the football that has to be the most dominant unit on this football team one of
15:24the
15:24worst run defenses in the NFL in 2025 just held a divisional offense to 69 yards on 18 carries in
15:34week
15:35one we're not crowning them or even calling them or not even comparing them to the big blue wrecking crew
15:42or we're even getting our ahead of ourselves because come on there's only one game and they did held a
15:49lead for the most of the night but it's how they got it done with who they got it done
15:56that has fans
15:57asking is this real progress or is this just one clean night especially with the Rams three tight end
16:05looks coming in week two as the next real test for this Giants run defense
