00:05How's Giants defensive coordinator Denar Wilson going to limit an attack a Titans offense that's
00:11led by Cam Ward with Brian Dable calling the shots? It's easier said than done, but you cause
00:17chaos and you get after Cam by rushing with four or less like the Jets and the Eagles did.
00:24So the Jets in week one pressured them 15 times on 39 dropbacks, sacked them three times,
00:31forced four scrambles and four throwaways. But here are two stats where the Giants defense,
00:38they got to be eyeing the most. They had a 33.3% pressure rate when rushing four or fewer
00:44in the
00:45coverage held on the back end. Tennessee's longest pass play week one against the Jets only went for
00:5214 yards and the Titans punt it seven times. And in week two, the Eagles matched that same energy.
00:59Everybody knows. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio prefers four man pressure and seven in
01:05coverage and it worked. They held Ward to 13 of 20 passes for 183 yards and they sacked them twice.
01:13So let's break down how Denar Wilson could rely heavily on guys like Abdul Carter, Kayvon Thibodeau,
01:21and of course the rest of the front four to get after Ward and cause chaos in this week's Blue
01:27Rush
01:27opponent breakdown.
01:33All right, we are down in the trenches. So I like to go with the tight. I want you guys
01:39to see the
01:39rush when we talk about the trenches. We talk about pass rush, offensive line protection. Some of these
01:45plays, I'll have the wide copy as well to show you the coverage that's played behind these defense
01:52coordinators rushing four and getting after Cam Ward. But I want to, I want to go in the tight right
01:57now so we can, so we can watch Will McDonald here and the individual, individual effort here,
02:05the beastly spin move. How many times have we seen a dual Carter hit somebody with that spin move?
02:11Maybe not last year, you know, last year, get, get home and get the sack, but at least cause some
02:16sort of pressure, get the ball out. So the Titans offensive line has actually been pretty decent
02:21this year. They've only given up five sacks in two games. And a lot of people are saying that's
02:25because Cam Ward is trying to exit the pocket a little too early. So this is all about, if you're
02:33going to rush four, you've got one, two, three, four, five, and then you can have a back or a
02:38tight end
02:38chip or, or, or stay in a block. It's four on five, sometimes six, or even, even seven.
02:46So this is one of those situations where it's going to be on the individual, on the Kayvon
02:52Thibodeau, on the Abdul Carter, on the Chauncey Golston or whoever, whoever else they line up to
02:57get after Cam Ward. You're going to have to make some sort of individual contribution or
03:05individual play in order to get after him. Again, this is, you see Will McDonald set him up and
03:14again, sets him up from the outside. He's in this nine technique, not too wide, gets uphill,
03:20gets to JC, this is the left tackle, Dan Moore, Dan Moore here, 75, JC Latham is the, uh, the
03:26right
03:26tackle, gets him to set upfield. And you can, on his, you can see the back eyeing to see if
03:32he's
03:32going to chip him, chip and release. But Will McDonald does such a great job getting this
03:38tackle to get off balance by getting upfield, getting him to commit with, with flashing and
03:46putting his arms out to get, to get in his chest. But look how low he is, look how explosive
03:52he is
03:53and just athletic. Even the back is like, damn. This is an Abdul Carter type rush. And I feel as
04:00though this could be an Abdul Carter type game and getting after Cam Ward.
04:07It's the same play. Now we'll look at the coverage behind it, because we was talking about if you're
04:12going to rush four, then you have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, seven in coverage,
04:17seven guys with their eyes on the quarterback, eyes on the routes that are being ran.
04:22So I'm not going to talk too much about the coverage. Just talk about how it's hard for
04:28any quarterback to throw into spots, into zones, when there are seven guys that are out here,
04:34eyes on the quarterback, looking to make a play. So it looks like they're in some sort of,
04:40let's see. He's going with the tie. He actually goes with the tight end. Some sort of shell coverage.
04:48That's a funky little coverage right there, because he looked manned up with the tight end
04:55right there. But it looks like some sort of cover four here, cover four to the field for sure.
05:02But seven eyes, seven eyes on the quarterback. Where is there to go with the football? Maybe here,
05:07because I think that's a bust. I think he's supposed to maybe come off a little bit.
05:11But you got the free safety right here, eyeing the crosser. If anything, this is the guy that's
05:19open. But eyes on the quarterback, eyes on the quarterback. There aren't many windows to throw.
05:26Now, had he had time to throw, then yeah, he could have hit this third receiver, this third receiver
05:32on this crosser. But again, individual effort, disrupting timing, getting this quarterback to
05:38move his feet just enough for guys to get back in the play, get back in the phase. But if
05:45you can,
05:46finishing it off and getting the set, getting home instead of getting the pressure.
05:53All right, we'll watch this Eagles game. Again, we'll go to the tight. Eagles didn't get after
05:58him like the Jets did. I believe the Eagles only had two sacks this game. But we'll watch,
06:04we'll watch here. One, two, three, four. I believe this is a second and eight. What up,
06:09Wandale? Wandale Robinson right there. So it's the second and eight. The Eagles,
06:13Vic Fangio, he drops, he drops, he rushes four all the time. That's his calling card. That's his MO
06:19as a defense coordinator. So let's watch it. And then we get back into it.
06:25Got a little stunt at the top. This is still registered as a sack. This is still a sack.
06:32Gets almost back to the line of scrimmage. But you see Latham there. You see Moore there. The
06:51they're doubling here. But 66 is going to come off on this tackle on the, on the end who's looping
06:59across. But I just wanted to show how you collapse the pocket, collapse the pocket, get after it.
07:04These four guys, it's not just Kayvon and Abdul Carter and Chauncey Golston where this DJ reader
07:10in there, Darius Alexander comes back or it's Shelby Harris. Those, these four guys, that front four is
07:17going to have to cause some sort of panic. You see that pressure right there gets Cam Ward
07:24to feel a little uneasy in the pocket and to step up. Now a great job here by three when
07:31he loops
07:31around right here. You see him look, even gets the chip block. So our, so our three in terms of
07:39Abdul Carter, he's going to have to worry about that same thing. This guy, he's third pick of the
07:44draft people. I mean, you got to, you got to respect them. So you got to expect the chip.
07:50Now he wrote loops back around. Now it's don't get washed. Don't get caught up in all in the madness
07:57here because now this opens up a lane for Cam Ward to get out of there or to reset his
08:03eyes and maybe
08:03hit the check down this back and check down control. But this end does a great job of keeping his
08:11hands
08:11and body free, getting out of the chaos, stepping up and making that tackle before Cam Ward's able to
08:20step up and run or hit this back. Because again, it's only second and eight and I'll show you on
08:26the
08:26wide. Same thing here, rushing the four, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven and coverage. Boom.
08:35Three man route up top. Anytime you got to keep a back or a tight end to chip and then
08:42release.
08:43That's just the guy who's not getting down the field. It's a guy that's not threatening your
08:48coverage vertically. The Eagles roll to a three buzz coverage here. It's a cover three, but instead of
08:58this strong safety playing flat to curl, he now switches with this nickel wheel. Now I notice the
09:05nickel wheel buzzes for backers, but this nickel is coming in to replace a backer. So he now has the
09:13flat to curl. He now steps down to hook to curl and everybody bumps out. He's got flat to curl
09:20and
09:20he's playing within the middle here. So it's a variation of cover three, but you've got seven guys
09:29playing these spots. So this loop, this TE stunt right here causes enough havoc for Cam Ward. And
09:36again, it's only second and eight here. You're going to take that check down all the time. You're
09:41going to take that and see what the bat can get. You never go broke taking a profit. So usually
09:47you
09:48just want to dump that there to this bat and then seize what he gets you. See if he can
09:52get you into at
09:53least a third and short, but the fact that that chaos forced Cam Ward to pull this ball down,
09:59he can't now get it back up and get it to the back. And the fact that three here didn't
10:04allow
10:05himself to get caught up in the chaos now allows him to loop around and make the tackle here.
10:10Because if Cam Ward takes off here, he now becomes a blocker in terms of this bat becomes a blocker.
10:17And there's yardage to gain here. They can probably even get the first down if he gets out of this
10:22clean. So when you drop the seven like that, you rush with four. You want to, you want to create
10:29some sort of chaos. That's one. Two, you also want to make sure you have gap discipline, scramble
10:37drill, scramble discipline in terms of retracing your steps and getting after this quarterback
10:44anytime that one of these holes or these pockets open up for him to escape. Close, close the escape
10:52routes is basically what I'm saying here. And you saw the Eagles able to do that.
10:59Last one right here. I'm not going to show you the wide. There's just a bunch of bracket coverage
11:04here in the, uh, in the red zone. See heavy personnel. That's 13 through, uh, one back three
11:13tight ends. I mean, it's a play has to be made here. You're rushing four, you're dropping seven,
11:20you're bracketing guys, you're doing a bunch of funky stuff within the coverage. I'm not really
11:24going to go there. It's all about a guy making an individual play. And this is why this is a
11:30hundred
11:30million dollar man right here in a Jalen Carter. So let's watch this play because it could be Abdul
11:37here. It could be Chauncey Goldston here. It could be Kayvon Thibodeau. Again, you're rushing four. It's
11:43going to come down to a guy making a play on the individual basis, whether it's splitting a double
11:50team or just beating a guy and we'll wash it and then we'll break it down, beat him, just beats
12:00him,
12:01just beats him. Nothing funky, nothing flashy. The D coordinator will get the credit and say,
12:08oh, he's such a great D coordinator. That's just a player. Yeah. It's disrespectful putting somebody
12:14up against me one-on-one and that's what you want. K five. That's what you want to do. And
12:19these guys
12:19would be thinking it's disrespectful for you to think you could block me one-on-one. He's got a
12:23little counter action, a little run action. This guard pulls here, trying to get everybody to think
12:28that you're running some sort of counter towards the strong side. And that leaves this, I guess
12:34you could call Jalen Carter in this situation. You could call him a DN that leaves this DN here
12:40because he's, he's three is now in coverage, playing some sort of coverage, leaves him one-on-one
12:46and you see him just outright. This is teach tape in terms of using your hands, young defensive
12:52lineman. This is teach tape. I'm not trying to hype up any Eagles player here, but I'm just talking
12:56about winning, winning and your assignment. Your assignment is to get to the quarterback. So let's
13:01go back a little bit. See his first step. And we're taught this as receivers club, wipe club, rip, but
13:10just keep it tight. So watch the left hand club down. Boom. Now you've got space. And if this is
13:17Abdul,
13:17this is Kayvon. Now it's about being that athlete that you are trim the fat and get after it.
13:25He's beat. Sees a run action there. Knows he's got bodies behind him, so he doesn't have to crash down
13:31on that. Sees that it's just a fake. Running back doesn't have the football, but here's the perfect
13:39part of it. Watch him, watch him retrace to where now Cam Ward can't get outside of him. He's playing
13:46it to play contains. He wants the sack, but at the end of the day, you want to contain as
13:52well. Keep him
13:53inside because now if he gets outside, that buys time for routes to develop, especially off of the play
13:59action. So one, he does a great job putting that right foot in the ground, keeping this outshot
14:05outside shoulder open for him to readjust his angle on a more athletic player than he is.
14:15But at the end of the day, it's about sacks. It's about getting there. That's what he does. And that's
14:21what this Giants defensive line and pass rushers are going to have to do this weekend if Denar Wilson
14:28decides to rush for and drop seven. Let's check Cam's stats on the season because through two games,
14:39he's only thrown for 323 passing yards, has a 61.5% completion rating, and one passing touchdown,
14:48but he's not turning the football over. Something isn't right with this Titans offense so far,
14:55and the Giants defense can't let this be a get right game for Brian Dable, Cameron Ward, or the Titans
15:03offense. If you can get after him with four and drop seven, you've got a great chance to keep a
15:09struggling offense and a quarterback that's waiting to show his true potential in check. No Jackson Dart,
15:17a banged up secondary, and maybe no Brian Burns. Guess what? This is the NFL. It doesn't matter.
15:24All eyes are still going to be on the Giants defense and pass rush with the Titans coming to town
15:30this Sunday.
