00:00...тalks about getting better week to week.
00:01One area they can take a big step at, offensive line.
00:04Miami's offense is going to take the field first.
00:0849ers won the toss.
00:10They elected to defer.
00:11So it will be Miami ball to start things off,
00:15and we'll get to see this offense that had some moments last week.
00:20We'll see if they can put more of those together
00:23as Jalen Wright will look for a return to start things off for Miami
00:27out across the 30 and down near the 33-yard line.
00:31Time to check in and say hello to Allison Williams.
00:33Kevin, Miami has a young, rebuilding team,
00:36but don't think for a second 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan
00:39is going to let his guys overlook the Dolphins.
00:41He told us this could be a total setup.
00:44We're coming off a huge game against the Rams
00:46with all the hype in the offseason,
00:47but our fear of failure must be just as high as last week.
00:51We will get embarrassed if we don't believe this game will be harder
00:54than the Rams.
00:55Linebacker Fred Warner said the prep was harder
00:57because they do not know these Dolphins like you guys said.
01:00Well, and it's certainly an advantage for the Dolphins
01:03from the standpoint that nobody really knows who they are right now.
01:07On first down, Malik Willis on the roll,
01:11in some trouble, able to break free
01:13and throw over the middle incomplete.
01:15Boy, Grayson Halton, the rookie from Oklahoma,
01:18was all over Willis and it's second down.
01:22As one of the things that we saw last week from Malik Willis
01:26playing the quarterback position,
01:27you've got to know when the play is over
01:29and either throw it away or use your athletic ability to try to extend.
01:33When he gets out here, there's nothing there.
01:34Be careful about getting back inside and giving up a negative play.
01:38We're going to talk about margin for error
01:40in regards to this Dolphins team during the course of the day.
01:43They cannot make mistakes and get behind the chains.
01:49On second down, Willis with time and open on the sideline
01:55is D.J. Herman, and the fullback fumbles, but it goes out of bounds.
02:00Fred Warner knocked it out of the rookie fullback D.J. Herman's hands,
02:05but it becomes Dolphin ball as it goes out of bounds at a first down.
02:09Yeah, making that transition from the defensive side,
02:12you can see he is aware of Fred Warner and what he can do.
02:17You saw the extra hand come up to protect the ball,
02:20but Fred Warner is so good at it, he still is able to knock that loose.
02:24It's going to be fun today.
02:25Who has the most punch outs, Fred Warner or Jacob Rodriguez on the Dolphins?
02:29Well, remember, D.J. Herman hasn't exactly been a prolific ball carrier.
02:32He's a former linebacker, had 17 snaps at fullback
02:36as a senior at San Diego State.
02:39Devon H.N. with his first touch of the afternoon
02:43and down to the 47-yard line.
02:45So Malik Willis in his first year with Miami,
02:48the 28th starting quarterback in 27 years in the numbers last week, a mixed bag.
02:53Yeah, not bad numbers.
02:54I think the big thing, the rushing yards,
02:56that's an element that he brings to the game that Miami hasn't had in quite some time.
03:00But playing the quarterback position in the tradition that we normally see,
03:04he's got to be able to process a little bit quicker, make those decisions,
03:08get rid of the football.
03:09He was holding the football a little bit too much last week.
03:12That allowed for some negative plays.
03:17On second down, H.N. again.
03:19Nice little jump cut, patient run.
03:22And he ends up about a yard shy of the first down
03:25as Grayson Holton makes the stop.
03:27And that run game's key.
03:28The offensive line up front is really key.
03:30A lot of draft capital invested into this group right here.
03:33They have to play better because Devon H.N. has to be able to get more
03:38than the 15 touches he got last week.
03:40When you talk about the potential on this small fence,
03:43it's about Malik Willis, but it's really about Devon H.N.
03:47The other thing, a lot of young receivers out here that will be on the field today
03:51had a nice start to their careers last week.
03:54They have to continue to grow to have confidence in the pass game.
03:57Third and a long one.
03:59H.N. the carry.
04:00Murray rides the wave over the left side.
04:03Good push up front from that offensive line to get the first down.
04:06And that's what we have to see.
04:07They've got to be able to control the line of scrimmage.
04:10And this is an area that Kyle Shanahan talked to us about,
04:14and he was a little bit concerned.
04:15That between-the-tackle run game.
04:17At the start last week, the L.A. Rams did a nice job getting in between the tackles.
04:23And he's worried because Devon H.N., he can find those little creases.
04:28He's that explosive home run hitter when you're talking about a running back.
04:31Yeah, Raheem Morris said we cannot let him ruin a game.
04:33He's capable of doing it.
04:36From the 36.
04:37H.N. again, but a flag is down.
04:39Motion up front.
04:41Eight penalties last week against the Dolphins.
04:43Offense number 71.
04:45Five-yard penalty.
04:46First down.
04:47And it goes to your point that you mentioned earlier.
04:49It is a very narrow margin for Jeff Halfley's first-year Dolphins team.
04:54I was a part of a team in a turnaround when I started my NFL career back in 89.
04:59And our first year with the Dallas Cowboys was 1-15.
05:02And you learn hard lessons every week.
05:04And the worst thing you can do when you're in one of these really big rebuilds and transitions
05:08is be your own worst enemy.
05:10And at times, too many times last week, that's what the Miami Dolphins were.
05:161-18 was that?
05:18First and 15.
05:20H.N. again.
05:22Very obvious early.
05:24A concerted effort from offensive coordinator Bobby Slowick to get the ball in H.N.'s hands.
05:29Raheem Morris on the defensive side certainly knew that.
05:32But he's got two guys back together.
05:34Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw that can stop anybody's offense.
05:38Yeah, I tell you, this team is just so different when Fred Warner is on the field.
05:42Well, 49er fans saw that from last season into the opener.
05:46And then to have Dre Greenlaw back with him.
05:49And just to hear those two talk.
05:51To hear Raheem Morris talk in the respect that he has for their relationship on the field.
05:58Motion across from Malik Washington.
06:00Willis to throw that direction.
06:01Too tall for the 5'8 receiver.
06:04Upton Stout in the area.
06:06And it'll bring up third and 13.
06:08And again, there was momentum a little bit for Miami.
06:11And a false start derails things.
06:13It's amazing how just something as small as a false start can get into your head mentally.
06:18And now that first and 15 as opposed to first and 10 becomes challenging.
06:23Because they know full well what their task is today going up against this 49er defense.
06:30They know how well they played against the Rams week one.
06:33And they have to be spot on with everything that's within their control.
06:42On third and 13.
06:44Willis over the middle.
06:46A-Chan with the catch to the 33-yard line.
06:49Now he's short of the first down.
06:51But an opportunity for Riley Patterson now with that catch to put points on the board.
06:56And that's the biggest thing.
06:57Every time you have an opportunity for points.
06:59And that's a good play call.
07:00And it's a good decision by Malik Willis.
07:03Because you're trying to get an opportunity for the points.
07:08You're not necessarily trying to get that third down in there.
07:11Can you get enough yardage where you feel comfortable sending your kicker out?
07:1451-yard try.
07:16Patterson in warm-ups today.
07:18Hit from 58 going either direction.
07:21This from 51 for an early lead.
07:25And the kick drifting wide right.
07:27It's no good.
07:28He missed from 41 last week in Las Vegas.
07:33And the Dolphins move the ball some.
07:36But come up empty on the opening drive.
07:42It's just you can't do this when you're going through what the Dolphins are going through right now.
07:47The process looks great.
07:48Snap hold.
07:49The kick just drifts wide to the right.
07:52And we saw him in pregame very, very confident.
07:56Kicked the ball very well.
07:57Your first opportunity out here on the field during the course of the game.
08:00And you have a miss.
08:01Chris Tabor, special teams coordinator.
08:04He's been at it a long time.
08:06He's a good one.
08:09He's trying to get this thing going in the right direction.
08:12First down for Brock Purdy.
08:14First time in the air.
08:15He finds Debo Samuel.
08:16And Samuel dropped immediately.
08:18Michael Taff, the rookie from Texas, who started at safety last week, had an interception, makes a good open field
08:25attack.
08:27So Brock Purdy, last week in Australia, 305 yards, three touchdowns, one interception, his 14th career game with three or
08:38more passing touchdowns.
08:39Yeah, just outstanding.
08:40And it just continues to grow.
08:42And I think one of the things that was interesting when we talked to him this week, he really wants
08:46to kind of get back to his play style.
08:47From that first year, he burst onto the scene against this Miami Dolphins team back in 2022.
08:54Off the play fake.
08:56Purdy drops a dime over on the near sideline to Demarcus Robinson.
09:00And he gets a first down.
09:06And it's just the experience and the confidence, right?
09:08You can see the difference in the execution from Miami's opening drive to these last couple of plays by San
09:15Francisco.
09:16And it's the timing.
09:17It's the depth of the route.
09:18It's the release.
09:19It's all those fine details that you're able to hammer home and grow in advance when you've been together for
09:24a while.
09:25It's the oldest team in the league against the youngest team in the league and a drop by Debo Samuel.
09:33So for the 49ers, you look at that offensive line and all camp long, the left guard spot was a
09:38real battle.
09:38Yeah, and it is one of the big question marks coming into the regular season.
09:42And Kyle Shanahan said you get over to Australia and maybe the game plan is to rotate.
09:46And you get in there and Connor Colby goes in and he plays well.
09:48And when you've got Trent Williams to your left, you know, you should be able to do that.
09:52But this group here, I'm excited to see what Mike Evans does in this offense.
09:56At practice on Friday, watching Brock Purdy and Mike Evans and the chemistry that they've all already established was pretty
10:02impressive.
10:03McCaffrey out of the backfield.
10:05Oh, what a tough task on the edge.
10:06He gets the first down.
10:08Chris Johnson, welcome to the National Football League.
10:11One-on-one in space against one of the best to do it in Christian McCaffrey.
10:15Yeah, one of the guys that they talked about last week.
10:18They came after him hard in Vegas.
10:1911 targets, 6 catches for 63 yards.
10:23Two touchdowns with that.
10:24And you can see right there, he's coming in to make the tackle.
10:26He squares up.
10:27He comes to balance.
10:29I mean, he does everything right up until that point.
10:31But that's Christian McCaffrey.
10:32I mean, he's so elusive and so quick.
10:36First down and 10 for San Francisco.
10:39After a missed field goal by Miami.
10:41First possession for the 49ers.
10:44And McCaffrey with the carry.
10:46Up the middle to the 33.
10:50Defensively for the Dolphins, there's youth all over this team.
10:54But the youth on the defensive side, specifically at linebacker, gives you a lot of hope if you're a Dolphin
10:59fan and Jacob Rodriguez.
11:00Yeah, there's a couple of things going on here on this defense that are very intriguing.
11:04And the one being Jacob Rodriguez that you talked about.
11:07The poise that he plays with.
11:08He's wearing the green dot for this team.
11:10He's calling everything.
11:11When we met with him this week, I mean, he is wise beyond his years.
11:16And it was a pleasure to visit with him.
11:17The safety position, which was a question mark coming in.
11:19How are we going to navigate this?
11:21Now has three potential starters back there.
11:23They played really well last week.
11:25Not much there for McCaffrey.
11:27Time now for a game break.
11:28Presented by Burger King.
11:30And it's Carissa Thompson.
11:31Thank you, Kevin.
11:31Cowboys commanders both looking for their first win.
11:34Nice start for Dallas.
11:35Dak hits CeeDee Lamb in the back of the end zone.
11:36Dallas up 7-0.
11:38Kevin?
11:40All right, Carissa, thank you.
11:42And we all know about the offense.
11:43It's the defense that all the Dallas fans have questions about.
11:47After all, the high hopes going into the week one game against the Giants,
11:51and that defense struggled.
11:58Third down and five.
11:59They were the best third down team in the league a year ago.
12:05Pressure coming immediately.
12:07Purdy trying to break free.
12:09Buying time to the sideline.
12:12And did he pull it in?
12:13Yes, he did.
12:14Mike Evans converted five third downs into firsts last week.
12:20And he's got a first down here with a toe tap at the 22.
12:23I mean, you do everything right.
12:25You got pressure coming in from the defensive right side.
12:28You flush Brock Purdy out to his left as a right-handed quarterback.
12:32But you can't stop it.
12:34He resets and finds Mike Evans for the first down.
12:37Jeff Halfley has the challenge flag in his hand.
12:41Not going to throw it.
12:45First down and ten.
12:47The handoff to Black.
12:49And Kalon Black, the rookie from Indiana.
12:53Been battling a groin injury this week for the 49ers,
12:56but he gets six on his first carry.
12:58And I think that this is going to be fun to watch during the course of the season
13:01because we know what's happened with Christian McCaffrey
13:03when he's had those seasons where he gets a tons of touches.
13:06The following year, there's an injury, and he's played three games.
13:09He's played four games.
13:10So to be able to have somebody like Kalon Black there,
13:13to be able to come in and substitute
13:14and take some of that early season wear and tear off of Christian McCaffrey,
13:18where you want him as healthy as he possibly can be in December, January, February.
13:24Handoff Black and into the backfield is Josh Uche,
13:27one of the veterans in his first year with Miami.
13:31Uche with a good tackle on Black, and it'll bring up third down.
13:36I think the other part of that equation,
13:38when you're getting ready to be able to have the confidence to spell Christian McCaffrey,
13:43it really goes to Kalon Black.
13:45And the comfortable confidence that Kyle Shanahan has with him
13:49because when he goes into the offense, he can do all the different plays.
13:52And I think that that's been a challenge at times
13:54with some of the younger running backs here.
14:00Third and five.
14:03Purdy over the middle.
14:05It's McCaffrey inside the 10, rolling his way to the 1.
14:12And we welcome those of you who have been watching the Packers and the Jets.
14:18You joined at an exciting time.
14:20Christian McCaffrey down to the one-yard line, setting up first and goal.
14:23Yeah, just a little arrow route by Christian McCaffrey.
14:26Way too much cushion given by Jordan Brooks.
14:29You know, he's releasing right at you,
14:31and you give a little bit too much cushion,
14:33and that's just like stealing for Christian McCaffrey going back to the inside.
14:38First and goal at the 1.
14:40Purdy turns.
14:42McCaffrey to the goal line.
14:44Stopped short.
14:45Zach Seeler.
14:46Good push up front.
14:48Able to get underneath McCaffrey in its second and goal.
14:51And one of the things that we heard during the course of our interviews
14:53with both teams was how hard Miami plays.
14:56And that's one of the things that Jeff Halfley,
14:59the new head coach, is trying to establish.
15:01And we heard it from Kyle Shanahan, and we heard it from Coach Halfley.
15:04If you put on the last five plays, and then you watch the first five plays,
15:08you don't see a drop-off.
15:09And so they're moving the football effectively here,
15:12but they're going to have to gain every yard out here on the field
15:15because this Miami defense is tough.
15:17McCaffrey second and goal in for the touchdown.
15:23First touchdown of the season for Christian McCaffrey.
15:27And the 49ers grab the early lead.
15:37Just a great job by that line up front of the San Francisco 49ers.
15:42The motions that they use is very distracting.
15:45That's an unblocked guy, really, for the Dolphins coming down,
15:48crashing from the inside.
15:50But there's enough surge that Christian McCaffrey can get up
15:53and fall into the end zone.
15:54Here's Eddie Pinheiro, been battling the flu all week.
15:58There was some question as to whether he'd kick today.
16:01But he bangs that extra point home, and it's 7-0.
16:04San Francisco, Miami's opening drive ends in a missed field goal.
16:08The 49ers take that missed field goal,
16:11march it down for an opening touchdown.
16:20Beautiful Bay Area.
16:21We've had just a wonderful weekend out here.
16:24The weather's been perfect.
16:25Another good day today.
16:27A little overcast, but temperature's very comfortable.
16:29And Christian McCaffrey very comfortable at the end of that 12-play,
16:3259-yard drive.
16:33His 99th career touchdown.
16:37He's one scrimmage touchdown away to become the third in NFL history
16:41to have 50 scrimmage touchdowns on multiple teams.
16:45I mean, it's a career that still has a lot of tread life on it,
16:49but it is a remarkable run for Christian McCaffrey.
16:54Short kickoff at the 11 for Jalen Wright.
16:57And Wright, who had a good return last week of over 70 yards,
17:01cannot get back to the 30-yard line.
17:05Well, we mentioned it.
17:06This is the young versus the old.
17:09Two teams in very different stages in their franchises right now.
17:12Dolphins, the youngest in the NFL.
17:14The 49ers are the oldest,
17:16trying to make another Super Bowl with that roster.
17:19How about this?
17:20The entire Dolphins roster has one Pro Bowl selection.
17:23The 49ers have a league-high 55 combined Pro Bowl selections.
17:28But if you want some hope,
17:29it is the largest gap entering any game in 29 years.
17:341997, the 49ers played Tampa Bay.
17:37The Niners had a 61-4 Pro Bowl advantage that day
17:43and lost the game 13-6.
17:46Breaking a tackle is Malik Washington.
17:48And Washington with a first down to the 39-yard line.
17:52And Drake Greenlaw had a shot at him,
17:53but he pulled away and picked up 12.
17:55But, I mean, you're talking about,
17:57that just underlines a little bit of what this Dolphins franchise is today.
18:01Two games into a total rebuild.
18:04Yeah, and let's take it a little bit further than that, too.
18:07It's not that this group is lacking the talent, right?
18:11You're talking about Pro Bowl nods,
18:13but this is the group that has really just come together for this season.
18:17There are a ton of guys out here, you know,
18:19because of the salary cap issue that they're having with the team.
18:22They're on one-year contracts with no guarantees.
18:25Here's Willis, just going to chug around the edge
18:27and get a little yardage to the 42.
18:30Yeah, they're paying more money to Tua this year
18:34than they are for the entire starting offense.
18:37It is a ton of dead cap money that they're trying to navigate right now.
18:42And you see, combined career starts.
18:44Dolphins have barely any.
18:4649ers have almost 1,900 career starts.
18:50Yeah, there's just so much talent on this San Francisco team
18:53that's played together for so long, and you can see that disparity there.
18:56But that is the choice of Jeff Halfley and his general manager, John Eric Sullivan.
19:02We're going to take our lumps in year one,
19:04and we're going to start building this thing the right way.
19:06Nice jump cut.
19:07Here's a talent that they have.
19:09Weaving around, breaking tackles.
19:11Devon Achan with a good run to the 40-yard line.
19:15He picks up 17, and if you've got a young team that's trying to build,
19:19not a bad place to start at running back.
19:20Not at all.
19:21Not at all.
19:22And one of the things I want you to watch is on the outside,
19:24coming for your left,
19:25you're going to see one of the wide receivers step in and make a block.
19:27We'll continue to roll that.
19:29There it is right there.
19:30It's a great job because that was one of the things that Coach talked to us about.
19:33Kevin Coleman down the field with Upton Stout.
19:36You're turning a 6-yard run into a 14-yard run.
19:39You're getting those chances for explosive plays for Devon Achan.
19:43And the longest rush of the season for Miami.
19:46Achan again, and Achan this time runs right into the arms of Grayson Halton.
19:52Halton's already making some plays for San Francisco.
19:56We talk about those young Dolphins.
19:57How about a young 49er, the rookie from Oklahoma,
20:00that the Niners got in the fourth round?
20:01Yeah, he's done a really good job.
20:03An opportunity with some injuries in that defensive line for San Francisco.
20:06And he's taken advantage of the snaps that he's had the opportunity to have
20:11during the course of training camp and getting some real work here in weeks one and two.
20:15You look at Grayson Halton,
20:16and you would never know that in elementary school he was a running back.
20:19He grew out of that phase.
20:25On second and nine, Willis off play action.
20:30Has to check it short, looking for his fullback DJ Herman,
20:34and it'll bring up third down.
20:38Well, we were talking with head coach Jeff Halfley,
20:42and he made the statement to us, and he said it to others as well.
20:45He said, the process this year is bigger than the result.
20:49And that's not what any fan wants to hear in an era of immediate gratification.
20:53But they are determined to build this a lot of the same way that Kyle Shanahan
20:59and company built it out here in San Francisco.
21:01Yeah, and he's being honest, and it's one of the things that he has been with his players
21:06and his team from day one, is honest and direct.
21:08And it's something that, as a football player, you respect.
21:11A-Chan on third and long to burst up the middle,
21:14and he twists his way close to a first down.
21:17He needed nine from the 39, and I think he's got it.
21:22Yeah, you're getting some trap blocks on the inside,
21:24a little bit of motion from the outside with the receiver,
21:28just a little bit of eye candy.
21:29Really good job right there, and a nice block coming across from Caden Proctor,
21:33their first-round draft pick this year.
21:35And another reason you can see how important the physicality is going to be moving forward.
21:40They went with an offensive lineman in their first-round pick,
21:43along with Chris Johnson.
21:45Spot him short, and it's fourth and inches.
21:49Malik Willis, a little bit of a tush-push,
21:52getting the shove from D.J. Herman, and it is a first down.
21:58Oh, the fullback has a wide and varied role on the field.
22:03Who knew a fullback's job eventually would be to push that quarterback for a first down, Moose?
22:07Yeah, back in the day, we used to actually have the ball in hand,
22:10and now we're just there to help kind of push it.
22:12So, hey, we got a fullback on each side in this game, so I'm very, very happy.
22:17You should have seen my partner all week long.
22:20Very excited, almost as excited as Jeff Halfley was right there.
22:28From the 29 on first down.
22:31Ollie Gordon, the second in it, running back.
22:33A flag is down, and Gordon is down.
22:36At the 28, slipped as he took the hit from Jair Brown.
22:46Illegal formation, offense number 85 was covered.
22:49Five-yard penalty, first down.
22:52And a five-yard penalty.
22:53We saw that derail the Dolphins on their opening drive.
22:57Yeah, and the whole pre-snap process has to get better.
23:00So, we'll get into that here as we move on to the second quarter.
23:04But a big issue last week.
23:06Everything pre-snap, the Miami Dolphins got to get some of that stuff cleaned up.
23:107-0 49ers after one in Santa Clara.
23:17Levi's in Santa Clara, California.
23:19You see the numbers from the first quarter.
23:21Dolphins had the ball twice in the first quarter,
23:24thus a little bit more opportunity for yardage and time of possession.
23:28But more importantly, for the home team, they have the 7-0 lead.
23:32One possession, one touchdown.
23:34And after a penalty, the Dolphins with a first down and 15 at the San Francisco 34.
23:48Malik Willis zips this one down to the 29-yard line to Malik Washington.
23:54Drake Greenlaw on the stop.
23:55And they get that penalty yardage back.
23:57It's second down and 10.
23:59And Washington is still down after the catch.
24:05And up and limping towards the sideline.
24:09This Dolphins offense with offensive coordinator Bobby Sloick last week,
24:13only 15 touches for Devon H.
24:15And you can tell after one quarter, eight touches already,
24:18what the emphasis is as this offense moves forward.
24:21Yeah, and that's why they have to be able to stay competitive throughout the course of the game.
24:25Because you're going to get into some of those situations where you start chasing a deficit.
24:28You don't want to be there.
24:29And that's what happened to him last week when we talked to offensive coordinator Bobby Sloick.
24:34He talked about, listen, we had a plan coming in.
24:36And we had to deviate from that plan because of the way the score got in that second half.
24:45Here's A-Chan, his ninth touch of the first half.
24:49And a push inside the 25 to the 24.
24:52It's going to leave Miami with third and five.
24:56They need the 19 for the first down.
25:02Well, one of those things that we heard from everybody was cleaning up the process,
25:07going from the huddle to the line of scrimmage.
25:09It looks like they're off to a better start this week.
25:12It looks cleaner as Malik Willis is stepping out.
25:14He was having conversation with the guys last week,
25:17trying to make sure that everybody was on the same page.
25:19We're seeing less of that here to start the game.
25:22Third down and five.
25:26Protection, check it short.
25:27A-Chan with blockers in front.
25:29Good move to get the first down.
25:31He got around Upton Stout, who had a bead on him, Moose,
25:34but was able to get free of him and get that first down.
25:37Well, you can see why this 49er defense was concerned about Devon A-Chan
25:41and going up against him.
25:42When he gets into space, he's very dangerous.
25:45This is a screen you can see.
25:46It's designed.
25:47It's set up.
25:48The blocker's out there in front, so it's not just releasing down the field,
25:52but get it out onto the flat area.
25:54Get the ball into Devon A-Chan's hands and see what he can create.
25:58Well, you know Raheem Morris was worried about him.
26:00That's how he spent most of his week worrying about what that running back might do.
26:04Willis in trouble.
26:05Gets away from Bosa.
26:06On the roll.
26:08He'll throw to the sideline.
26:09Looking for Dolchitz's tight end, and it's incomplete.
26:13Stout on the coverage there.
26:14Nice move in the backfield by Willis because Bosa had his eyes on his first sack of the season.
26:20Yeah, Nick Bosa played this really well, and, you know, he pops up right in his face
26:24as he comes out on that bootleg, able to step up inside.
26:28So just a really good play by Nick Bosa, just doing your job, you know,
26:32not chasing everything down inside on that play fake.
26:40Jalen Wright in the backfield.
26:42Second down and 10.
26:43White 18 was up.
26:45And it's Wright who gets the carry.
26:47And Wright with an opening.
26:48Down to the 10-yard line.
26:54Marquis Siegel after the 8-yard gain with the tackle.
26:57Well, you can see why Kyle was concerned about that.
27:00You get the double, but then you also get the climb to the outside.
27:04So they're controlling the down guys.
27:06They're allowing the running back to get to the line of scrimmage
27:09with a positive game with no contact,
27:12and then allow him to find the spot where the ball should break to.
27:23Third down and two.
27:25Hand off up the middle to Wright.
27:28And Wright with a first down.
27:30Jair Brown there on the tackle, but the Dolphins have a first and goal.
27:36And it's been the ground game, Darrell, that's done it for Miami,
27:39especially on this drive, averaging over 5 yards per carry right now.
27:43Yeah, getting really confident in this run game,
27:46and it's one of the things that we touched down.
27:47It was the one area where when you read everything through training camp,
27:51I think everybody was very positive of the potential of the run game
27:54for the Dolphins because of that offensive line.
27:56They had to be disappointed last week.
27:58Great to see them come out and have a good start here in the first half.
28:04On first and goal, A-Chan back in the game, gets the carry to the 5, stood up there.
28:11Going to be a little tougher in this area against this good 49ers defense.
28:16Yeah, and I always believe that, you know, if you're going to be a good red zone offense,
28:20you've got to be able to run the football down here because as this field condenses,
28:24it really makes it hard to be able to throw the football down here efficiently.
28:28So how does this team continue to assert themselves in this run game
28:32once they're down here getting close to the goal line?
28:34That's the 15th play of this drive for Miami.
28:46And a timeout.
28:49Dolphins trying to get organized.
28:50Jeff Halfley says, let's pause.
28:53So a timeout used by Miami.
28:56Their first good sprint by Jeff Halfley to get that timeout.
29:04Great example of what we were talking about earlier here.
29:06You break the huddle at 20 seconds.
29:08Now watch how much time they take trying to get everybody lined up.
29:12Kevin Coleman's on the wrong side of the formation.
29:14He's got to go to that side.
29:15Now you've got Malik Washington.
29:17Do I come inside?
29:17Do I cross all the way to the other side of the formation?
29:19So you've got to have these things down.
29:22You can't waste timeouts, and you cannot take a 5-yard delay game
29:25when you're down inside the 10-yard line.
29:27Second and goal.
29:29Willis under pressure.
29:31Willis on the run, and Willis, instead of throwing that ball away,
29:35runs out of bounds and takes a loss at the 10.
29:37Fred Warner there to shove him out.
29:43It's amazing.
29:44Every time you watch the 49ers play,
29:46let's just keep an eye on Fred Warner right here.
29:49Just watch how he dislikes everything.
29:51He's dropping back.
29:52He's looking around.
29:52Eyes on the QB the whole time.
29:54Able to close that gap.
29:55You hear a lot of people talk about a linebacker
29:57who plays the position really well, sideline to sideline.
30:00He's the best in the NFL at that right now.
30:033-for-5 on third down today.
30:05Miami was 2-of-10 last week in the opener.
30:12Third and goal from the 10.
30:14Willis under pressure from Bosa gets away.
30:17Willis now turning upfield and chased out of bounds by Romello Height.
30:25The 49ers defense bent, but they did not break,
30:28and they get the stop on third and goal.
30:30Yeah, you'd think you'd just make a call, right?
30:32Hey, if Nick Bosa's one-on-one on one side of the tackle or the other,
30:35we're going to put her back to that side.
30:37I mean, that's your biggest threat is 97 in a one-on-one situation,
30:42so you've got to be aware that he's really kind of flushed Malik Willis
30:46out of the pocket on multiple times today.
30:4828-yard try for Patterson.
30:51Missed from 51 earlier.
30:55This one is true, and the Dolphins are on the board
30:58with 9.56 to go in the second.
31:01A 7-3 lead in the city by the bay.
31:06Brock Purdy and the 49ers.
31:08The Miami Dolphins, a rematch of Super Bowl XIX in San Francisco.
31:15That's a Super Bowl XIX rematch.
31:17That game played 14 miles from here at Stanford Stadium.
31:20Joe Montana stole the show, was MVP.
31:24Hall of Famer Roger Craig, 135 scrimmage yards, three touchdowns.
31:2849ers shut down Dan Marino, and there's Stanford Stadium.
31:33A little different than it looked back in Super Bowl XIX.
31:43Evo Samuel on the return for San Francisco.
31:48And Samuel down just shy of the 30-yard line.
31:52You know, that Super Bowl XIX game, you talk about Hall of Famers.
31:55Don Shula and Bill Walsh, both head coaches, both quarterbacks.
31:59Roger Craig in this year.
32:02Well due, overdue, if you will.
32:04Dwight Stevenson, Ronnie Lott, Fred Dean.
32:06A little talent in that Super Bowl.
32:08Yeah, and I think the biggest thing you saw there is you saw the head coach and the quarterback, both
32:12Hall of Famers.
32:13That relationship when you have the head coach and the quarterback in sync through their journeys together
32:18is critical to have success for the team.
32:23Brock Purdy and the 49ers offense back to work on first down.
32:27And the play fake, Purdy going to scramble.
32:31And Purdy stumbles down at the 39.
32:34Well, you look at that number 13 rumbling along, and you mentioned it earlier,
32:38the first game he had his breakout was against these Dolphins, December 4th of 2022.
32:45And he got the chance to meet his hero earlier and chat with Dan Marino.
32:50He said he told us that's the reason he wears number 13.
32:52He grew up a Dolphins fan, and he was talking about that game when he came in for the injured
32:58Jimmy Garoppolo
32:59on December 4th against the Dolphins.
33:01He said, I saw Dan Marino at one point on the big screen.
33:05He goes, that was surreal to play in that game, look up against the Dolphins, and see Dan Marino.
33:12And then he told us, he said, the day I was born, my dad held me.
33:16He was watching Dolphins and Jets.
33:18He said, that might have been the only game I saw Dan Marino play.
33:21He was a brand-new newborn baby.
33:23It was the last ever 300-yard game by Dan Marino.
33:29Threw for 322 yards and a 38-31 loss to the Jets.
33:32He retired after that year.
33:33Jimmy Johnson at the end of that year left and didn't coach anymore.
33:37And Brock Purdy, the day he was born, opened his eyes, saw Dan Marino throw for 300 yards,
33:43became a Dolphins fan, wore number 13, and now throws for 300 yards on the regular in the NFL.
33:51He zips this one into Demarcus Robinson and a first down to midfield.
33:57Jacob Rodriguez on the stop.
33:59I think that scramble might have been an ode to Dan Marino.
34:03Brock Purdy is much more athletic than that.
34:05He was stumbling around in there as he pulled that football down.
34:08But always a pleasure to talk to Brock Purdy.
34:10I mean, and to hear Fred Warner say he had the best camp I've ever seen him had.
34:15He's been very, very committed to getting back to his younger years already at the stage of his career.
34:21His younger years where he felt he was on a better platform, was making better decisions.
34:25And quarterback coach Mick Lombardi, he gave him a lot of credit.
34:28He said he pushed him really hard this offseason.
34:30Here's Purdy on the run, just like Marino, down the sideline and out of bounds at the 32.
34:37There is a flag down.
34:38It's on the opposite side of the field.
34:40There's two of them, one at the 38 and one at the 31.
34:58And remember, we saw Nick Bosa, you know, kind of hold his job and make sure that Malik Willis didn't
35:06get outside.
35:06That time, you've got the defenders chasing that play fake, and as Brock Purdy came out,
35:11there was no defenders out there to make a play on Brock Purdy.
35:18Deebo Samuel in the backfield on first down.
35:23And it's Samuel who gets the carry right between the tackles and down to the 23-yard line.
35:29Allison Williams, this Miami Dolphins defense trying to hang on without one of their best players out there.
35:34Yeah, their veteran edge rusher, Chop Robinson, out with a concussion sustained this week in practice.
35:39But on the sideline, guys, good positive feedback for that defensive line, even without such a key piece.
35:45The message has been to relax, don't get cut off in all that motion pre-snap.
35:49Just run, hit, second one in, look to take the ball away.
35:52But really pleased with the good job they've done getting lined up and how things have looked operationally.
35:56That motion was a big concern for Jacob Rodriguez, among others.
36:00He told us, those guys have to have their ears open so I can make the calls late that I
36:04need to make.
36:04And a timeout called by San Francisco.
36:07First timeout, San Francisco.
36:09So with that timeout, we'll take one as well from Santa Clara.
36:17Garoppolo off on a cart.
36:19Last pick of the draft.
36:20Coming in at quarterback.
36:22Brock Purdy off of the bench as his first NFL touchdown.
36:25That's a great job by Brock Purdy.
36:28Second touchdown.
36:28That is a heck of a throw by Brock Purdy.
36:33Moose, you were on the call with Joe Davis when Brock Purdy had his coming out party.
36:38What do you remember about that one?
36:40Just being completely impressed.
36:42You know, you'd heard about the Mr. Irrelevant and just the poise and everything you see here today.
36:47His ability to read the play and stepping in in that environment as a backup quarterback.
36:53And there's that sudden change opportunity and not missing a beat.
36:57And we've got Demarcus Robinson limping off the field after that play.
37:00But the biggest thing was once he settled into that game, there was one throw that I remember.
37:06And it was thrown in the smallest window between a defender coming from the inside out and the outside in.
37:13And he fit that ball in.
37:14And it was so impressive.
37:16And he just walked away from that game going, wow, they found somebody really, really special with the last pick
37:22of the draft.
37:23On first and goal from the five, it's McCaffrey up the middle.
37:27First contact from Dante Trader.
37:30And it's second down and goal at the two.
37:32Trader getting the start this week.
37:34Jeff Halfley told us he earned it in practice.
37:36And that's one of the things, you know, we'll talk about all the different things that Jeff Halfley is going
37:40to try and instill to his players.
37:41But when you follow it up with your actions, and he has said coming into week one, hey, I've got
37:46three guys at safety.
37:48I consider them all to be starters.
37:50Dante Trader come out and had a great week of practice.
37:52He was not the starter last week.
37:54It was the other two safeties, Michael Tapp and Zane Anderson.
37:57So when you earn the right to be on the field, he's going to put you on the field.
38:01Good play fake.
38:02Purdy chugging for the goal line.
38:04Purdy in for the touchdown.
38:07Touchdown.
38:13Touchdown.
38:14Touchdown.
38:15Touchdown.
38:17Touchdown.
38:18Touchdown.
38:18Touchdown.
38:19Touchdown.
38:19Touchdown.
38:21Just some assignment stuff when you get down on the goal line and you get some plays, making sure that
38:26everybody is doing their job.
38:27We saw it on the offensive side of the ball when they broke the huddle and struggled a little bit.
38:31Watch Kyle Juszczyk here.
38:33He's going to simulate the block, and then he's going to release.
38:36But you have two guys that defend him, and you don't have anybody there to pick up Brock Purdy,
38:41and that's an easy opportunity for him to scamper into the end zone.
38:44And now a 14-3 lead for San Francisco.
38:50They may have had the most impressive win in the league in week one, dominating the Rams in Australia.
38:57Trying to take care of business in the home opener now.
39:00All smiles for the 49ers, up 14-3.
39:07First two possessions, you can't do much better than what we've seen from the 49ers.
39:1112 plays, 59 yards, a touchdown.
39:13Eight plays, 71 yards, and a touchdown.
39:16Kyle Shanahan has to be happy with how that's been drawn up.
39:19And I think we got a kick, perhaps a little premature.
39:25The premature boot.
39:26The ball was kicked before the ready-for-play whistle.
39:36And not good news for San Francisco.
39:39Demarcus Robinson headed out on the cart.
39:42Allison, what do you know about Demarcus?
39:44Yeah, for right now, they're calling it an ankle injury and saying he is questionable.
39:48We'll get some more information at the half.
39:50Certainly not what you want to see if you're a Niners fan with all the injuries they already have at
39:54receiver.
39:55No, and it seems like every time we come to San Francisco and cover a 49ers game,
40:00we're talking about injuries, and that's been the case the last couple of years for sure.
40:05On the return, Jalen Wright took a huge hit at the 37-yard line.
40:12My goodness, what a stick from Marquis Siegel.
40:19But one of the areas we've talked about getting better from week to week,
40:23and another area right now where the Dolphins are doing a better job is special teams.
40:29Last week against Las Vegas had some big returns that caught them, you know, behind the eight ball a little
40:34bit.
40:34They had a big return themselves and failed to take advantage of that.
40:37But here's another area, if you're talking about from week to week, game to game, we've got to get better.
40:43Special teams has gotten off to a good start here in the first half for Miami.
40:47From the 37-yard line on first down, a little sidearm.
40:50He had to adjust his throw because Fred Warner was in his face.
40:55And it's second down and ten and a game break with Carissa Thompson.
40:58Thank you, Kevin.
40:58Cowboys already up 10-3.
41:00Dak Prescott will throw his second touchdown of the first half.
41:02This one to Jake Ferguson.
41:04Cowboys on top, 17-3.
41:07Kevin.
41:08All right, Carissa Roy.
41:10How about them Cowboys, at least to start?
41:14Not a great start week one, but bouncing back week two.
41:19Second and ten from the 37-yard line.
41:25A little pitch to H&M to the 41.
41:29Give him four.
41:31Stout on the tackle and a third and six coming up for Miami.
41:34Yeah, and I think one of the big things here is really kind of putting themselves into more manageable third
41:40downs.
41:40Last week against Las Vegas, they averaged third and eight to go.
41:44And they had four that were third and ten plus.
41:46So, in a situation like that, where you have the incomplete and it's second and ten, not chasing it,
41:51having confidence that your offensive line has started off well today
41:54and be comfortable running the football down to get you into a manageable third down.
41:59Already ten carries for H&M.
42:02He had 11 the entire game last week.
42:05Pressure up the middle.
42:07Willis to the sideline, threw it short with Washington the intended target.
42:11The pressure from Keyon White, but a flag is down.
42:14Personal foul, roughing the passer.
42:17Defense number 56.
42:1915-yard delivery.
42:20Automatic first down.
42:21So, Keyon White, who had the pressure with roughing the passer in a first down.
42:27Yeah, I think this is going to be body weight because he's going to come through clean.
42:29Watch the hit right there.
42:30It's not the hit.
42:31It's how he lands.
42:32He lands right on top of the quarterback with all that weight on the opposite shoulder.
42:36And that's a roughing the passer category that's been put in here for several years ago.
42:41I agree with that call right there by the letter of the rule.
42:47So, a first down at the 44-yard line.
42:50Now, what do you do with that?
42:51What do you do to take advantage of that?
42:53Because at the third down that you missed, the defense gave you the opportunity to stay on the field.
42:57What do you do with the football now?
42:58That 20th snap of the first half in 49er territory and nothing doing.
43:03How about Dre Greenlaw?
43:06He comes back after battling that quad injury all last year in Denver.
43:10And what a lift he's provided back out there with his buddy Fred Warner.
43:14They trust what they see.
43:16They've been playing together for so long.
43:17And you've seen so much football that as you see that blocking scheme developing in front of you,
43:21you recognize it right away.
43:23And they're just, they don't hesitate at all.
43:26They are downhill.
43:28They know each other so well.
43:33Second down and 10.
43:40Willis surveying the field.
43:42It's HN and it's Greenlaw once more.
43:45Another big hit.
43:46And Allison, you had the chance to catch up with Dre Greenlaw on his return to San Francisco
43:50and his connection with Fred.
43:51Yeah, he is so thankful to be back where he belongs.
43:54Those are his words.
43:55You know, that year in Denver, it didn't go as he had hoped.
43:58He dealt with injuries that really set him back from the start.
44:01It ultimately just wasn't a good fit for him.
44:03But now he said he is back surrounded by people he trusts, especially Fred Warner.
44:07He said he's like a brother.
44:09We've been through so many battles together.
44:10We have a connection.
44:12There is an unspoken communication we rely on throughout the game.
44:21And another pre-snap penalty.
44:24The third already for Miami.
44:27And Bobby Slowick, he knew that's one thing they couldn't do.
44:31Yeah, I think you've got to wait to the snap before you pull until you're lined up right next to
44:35the center.
44:36And it was funny to hear them talk.
44:38Well, I thought it was amusing.
44:40But, hey, he had a bunch of pancake blocks last weekend.
44:43Now, he didn't always pancake the right guy.
44:46But he was pancaking people on the field.
44:47So, when you've got a rookie who's coming in and playing with that style of football,
44:52that's a great building block for that offensive line.
44:57Willis in trouble.
44:58Gets away from Bosa.
45:00To the sideline.
45:02Finds Washington.
45:03And a first down at the 20.
45:06What a play by Malik Willis to break free of Nick Bosa and pick up 23.
45:14This is a heck of a play.
45:15You can see why Jeff Halfley and John Eric Sullivan wanted to go back to Green Bay and get Malik
45:21Willis.
45:21Watch this.
45:22Extended stand there.
45:23Nick Bosa's closing on him.
45:25I'm like, oh, you're going to take a blindside hit on this next step.
45:28And he just has the confidence to hang in there, allow his guy to get open,
45:31and look at him rip it down there for a completion.
45:34Extra offensive lineman in, plus the fullback in the eye on first down from the 20-yard line.
45:40The handoff is to Ollie Gordon.
45:41And Gordon gets a yard to the 19.
45:48Clock winding down.
45:50Should take us to the two-minute warning here in Santa Clara.
45:57The Miami Dolphins, the youngest team in the league, going against the oldest team in the league,
46:02trying to put some points on the board before the break.
46:09Verizon halftime coming up with Kurt, Terry, Howie, Michael, and Gronk.
46:14Cowboys, Seattle, all in action coming up on the Verizon halftime.
46:17Beautiful shot of the city of San Francisco.
46:19And I want to send out a shout-out not only from me, but for our entire crew, for Greg
46:23Papa.
46:23The voice of the 49ers, he's a Bay Area legend.
46:26He has been battling leukemia since last July.
46:29Now, as Cam Inman of the Mercury News wrote, facing the possibility of a heart transplant with advanced heart failure.
46:36Greg Papa is one of the best to do this.
46:39I know he's been battling.
46:41I know he's going to keep battling.
46:42Greg, we know you're watching today.
46:44And just know we're all thinking about you in this booth and throughout this stadium.
46:48What a legend and one of the real tremendous broadcasters in this business.
46:54And just keep fighting, my man.
46:56Well said, Kevin.
46:58Well said.
47:01So a third down coming up now for the Dolphins.
47:04A 14-3 lead.
47:08For the 49ers, Brock Purdy would love one more chance before halftime.
47:12And this is just one of those steps as an offense.
47:14You get down here, it just gets so much harder to move the football in the red zone.
47:18So what can they do here?
47:19They've gotten into this position before and have stalled out.
47:23Third down and five.
47:26Willis with protection to the sideline.
47:29Catch is made, and it's Caleb Douglas.
47:31A first down and the first catch for the third round pick.
47:35He picks up seven.
47:37And this is one of those situations where it's all about the timing and the trust.
47:41You're going to run a go route, but then you're going to run the stop component.
47:45And Malik Willis does a great job turning it loose.
47:48And when you watch Caleb Douglas, he's advanced in his route running for a rookie coming in.
47:53That's a good sell to get D'Amador Lenore to get running and then put your foot in the ground
47:58and turn around.
47:59So, again, building that timing, building that trust.
48:02And your first year together here in Miami, that's a nice completion for the first down.
48:06So the 49ers use one of their two remaining timeouts.
48:11Stopping the clock with 1.09 until halftime, and it's first and goal to the 7th.
48:19Two tight ends, one in motion, and Kaczmarek.
48:23Willis under center on first down.
48:24The give is to A-Chan.
48:27A-Chan up the gut to the 3, and a timeout used by the 49ers.
48:33Their final timeout with 1.04 to go in the first half,
48:37and now this from State Team 3 lead for the 49ers.
48:41But Jeff Halfley's offense on another long march, 10th play of the drive, and it's second and goal.
48:55A-Chan again caught in the backfield.
48:58Jair Brown with an ankle tackle at the 3.
49:03Really nice job.
49:04You walk somebody up for the pressure.
49:06Now you've got to go make that play, and it's well-timed on the snap
49:10and being able to chase this down.
49:13They've got some opportunity on the front side,
49:16so Jair Brown coming off that back side, unblocked.
49:19That was important right there because that's going to be a walk-in for Devon A-Chan.
49:24This is a really important snap for the Miami Dolphins.
49:30Third and goal play clock winding down, and they're going to take a timeout.
49:34Jeff Halfley's standing next to the official.
49:35He'll call timeout with 24 seconds left in this first half.
49:39Want to make sure the Niners don't have any time left at the end of this drive,
49:43and they call that timeout here.
49:47Tonight, following football, everyone's favorite small-town doctor is back.
49:52Critics rave that Best Medicine is an absolute delight and just what the doctor ordered.
49:58Catch the special advance premiere of Best Medicine tonight, following football on Fox.
50:06I agree with you, Kevin.
50:07This is a huge snap right here.
50:09And do you run it to the left?
50:11I mean, you've got Patrick Paul over there.
50:13You've got Caden Proctor.
50:14That's where the success has come here through the first early part of the season.
50:19And allow yourself to go for it on fourth.
50:22Three receivers to the top of the screen.
50:24Willis looking that direction.
50:26Pocket collapsing.
50:27Flag is down.
50:28Willis on the run.
50:30Stopped short of the goal line.
50:32Upton Stout with the tackle near the three.
50:35And a hold against the Dolphins is the penalty flag.
50:40Hold it.
50:42Offense number 74 to John Culley.
50:46Third down.
50:47Back him up and force another third down snap.
50:51Yeah, that's why I think in this situation I would have ran the football over to the left
50:55and then taken my chance and then go for it on the fourth down.
50:58You can see Nick Bosa on the upfield shoulder of Caden Proctor right there.
51:01He's got his arm out just trying to hold on.
51:04But you brought Upton Stout on the blitz right there.
51:06You stunt everything inside.
51:09Now you really have to.
51:10Now you have to throw the football.
51:12I would have liked to see him give one shot at the run game to the left side.
51:15See what happens there.
51:16You've got to go forward on fourth.
51:17Make that decision.
51:20Third and goal again.
51:22Back at the 13 now.
51:27And the handoff to A-Chan.
51:30Down he goes at the five.
51:34And the Dolphins are going to use their final time out.
51:38With three seconds to go.
51:39Two seconds to go until halftime.
51:44So the final time out used by the Dolphins gives us a chance to check in in Los Angeles with
51:49Kurt Menefee.
51:51Week two is in full swing with plenty to talk about after an action-packed morning.
51:56Terry, Howie, Michael, and Gronk turn the spotlight on the biggest plays from around the league.
52:01It's all coming your way on the Verizon Halftime Show.
52:04We'll see you in the studio.
52:08Might be the most artistic promo we've ever done for the Verizon Halftime Show.
52:12Different shades, different lenses.
52:15Goodness.
52:1724-yard try for Riley Patterson.
52:23Dolphins unable to cash in in the red zone to get into the end zone.
52:28And they settle for three as halftime arrives in Santa Clara.
52:35A 14-6 advantage.
52:38And our custom game plan is brought to you by State Farm.
52:42Dolphins out yarding the 49ers.
52:45Holding that football for almost 20 minutes in the first half.
52:48Down eight at halftime.
52:51A 14-6 lead for the San Francisco 49ers over the Miami Dolphins.
52:56Time to go to Los Angeles for the Verizon Halftime.
53:02Dolphins are in town to take on Christian McCaffrey.
53:05And that dynamic 49ers offense.
53:10First touchdown of the season for Christian McCaffrey.
53:15Purdy chugging for the goal line.
53:17Purdy in for the touchdown.
53:23That was today's game flow presented by Progressive.
53:27Not a lot of possessions.
53:29Three drives for the Dolphins.
53:30Held on to it for almost 20 minutes.
53:32The Niners have made and taken full advantage of the two drives they've had.
53:37With two touchdowns on two drives.
53:40Welcome back to the booth alongside my partner Daryl Johnston.
53:42I'm Kevin Kugler.
53:43We'll hear from Allison coming up in just a little bit.
53:45But a very efficient two drives and two scores for San Francisco.
53:48And some progress for Miami in this first half.
53:51Exactly.
53:52You look at what San Francisco does.
53:53They come out.
53:54They move the ball effectively.
53:55Kyle Shanahan a little bit nervous about this.
53:57Because his players had such a great opening to week one.
53:59How are we going to respond in week two to an opponent we don't know.
54:02The offense very proficient.
54:04Defensively, you know, Miami's doing a really nice job against that Niners defense.
54:09You're doing everything you can.
54:10Neither team punted in the first half.
54:12So we had a lot of offense there.
54:14But Miami, in their ball control, we talked about it at the top.
54:18The offensive line has to play really well today.
54:21If they're going to have an opportunity to be in this game late.
54:23And they really did a nice job here in the first half.
54:25We can have all these accolades.
54:27But there is still a second half here to play.
54:29How do they finish this game?
54:31Which is another step when you're rebuilding a franchise.
54:34The line drive kickoff will go into the end zone.
54:37Debo Samuel will take the knee for the touchback.
54:40Now to Allison with our sideline report brought to you by Verizon.
54:43And Allison?
54:44We'll start with the 49ers.
54:45Kyle Shanahan really pleased defensively.
54:47The job they did in the red zone holding Miami to just a couple of field goals.
54:51But he said those were way too long of possessions for them.
54:53They controlled the ball when they had it.
54:55We've got to do a better job getting off the field sooner.
54:58Offensively, while they had just the two possessions, he said,
55:00we found a good rhythm quickly.
55:02Loved the scrambles from Brock Purdy to keep things alive.
55:04On the other side, the Dolphins' Jeff Halfley.
55:06Not such a fan of those scrambles.
55:08He said, we have to do a better job containing Purdy.
55:10He cannot be their leading rusher like he was in the first half.
55:13But loves the confidence and the energy that he is feeling from his team so far.
55:17And it's one of the things he talked about in week one.
55:19That energy they showed.
55:21Purdy over the middle.
55:21Wide open.
55:22And it's George Kittle on the run.
55:25Rumbling down to the 25.
55:35Really good run action here by this play design.
55:38Watch how they move Jacob Rodriguez.
55:40And then here comes George Kittle right up.
55:42You've got two and one running on the same.
