Motel Mexicola Canggu brings southern Mexico to Batu Bolong Beach with pastel interiors, neon light, and a lively dining space built for food, drinks, and dancing. Nikki and Carlos walk through the restaurant’s many zones, from the takaria near the kitchen pass to the bar, booth seating, outdoor area, and the PEP station, sharing the ideas behind the design and the atmosphere they wanted to create.

The space blends Motel Mexicola’s original DNA with a tropical Canggu twist: pink and yellow tones, confetti-pattern cushions, mirrors, lamps, marble, brick, and illuminated Mayan-inspired symbols. The video also explores the restaurant’s three design eras of Mexico — pre-Colombian, colonial, and the golden beach party years of the 60s and 70s — plus details like the Mayan shrine, the sacred dog gate, the Lady of Guadalupe, and the restroom design.

Set against fresh food, tequila, live music energy, and beachside views, this restaurant tour is ideal for viewers who enjoy Bali interiors, restaurant design, Mexican-inspired spaces, and hospitality concepts with strong visual storytelling. It also captures the social side of a Mexican holiday atmosphere, where the table turns into a dance floor and solo guests are encouraged to mingle.

00:00Hi Valley Interiors, I'm Nicky and I'm Carlos. Welcome to Motel Mexicola, Changu.
00:07Come on take a peek in on your restaurant.
00:30We are now here in Motel Mexicola, Changu. This is our second baby. Our first baby was born 10 years
00:37ago.
00:38It's a big baba and it's located in Seminyak. For this adventure we have decided to take it a
00:44little bit further south of Mexico. It's more tropical, the beach, the coconuts, pineapples,
00:52great food, really fresh food. So they brought me in, we've known each other for more than 20 years,
00:58in Playa del Carmen, when it used to be the tip of the iceberg. It's the hip. Yeah, hipest of
01:05all.
01:06And then well we got together again to make some magic happen here. That's when we created
01:12what you call a Changu.
01:17So we have a few areas. This is what we call Taqueria because it's right by our kitchen pass.
01:24So we get our little tacos around here. We're right close to the street.
01:27Just full of details. Just bringing some of the original Mexicola DNA, but giving it, you know,
01:36that tropical punch, giving it that pink and that yellow. Just these beautiful ideas that Miss Nicolasa
01:43has, you know, transponded onto us and that we are bringing down here.
01:52Okay guys, this is where most of the action takes part. You know, you see it now for dining,
01:58but as the tequila comes out, these tables go out and this is all dancing. We have our DJ and
02:04our little
02:04puppet over there. And sometimes we have a live band as well. So you're sure you love it. We have
02:11our
02:11taqueria over on there, which is the kitchen. And we have our peep on that side there. I'll be sure
02:17to show
02:17you some of that as well.
02:21Why a Mexican restaurant in Bali?
02:24Simulators between Mexico and Bali are great.
02:27Phenomenal, especially in this island where we, they celebrate and eat pig, right?
02:33In our roots in Mexico as well, especially the South Park. Pig is celebrated. It's delicious.
02:39But we will show you a little bit of the history of the kitchen.
02:42So where this, what you see in here is where all the friends and family gather to have a big
02:48feast.
02:49And not only that, you come alive. There is something in there, in the love of the food,
02:55in the drinks that they put into you, that you will have the time of your life and you can
03:01quote me on that one.
03:14If you're traveling solo, you will never be solo. This is perfectly the spot for you to mingle.
03:20Shots get surveyed in a beautiful bar. Carlos is going to take you through the story.
03:25This is exactly what it feels when you're in a holiday, in a Mexican holiday.
03:34So we have some really good design cues that we've got here. It's like, I call it the high and
03:40low.
03:40You know, we have a very high end marble, green marble that reminds us of that Mexico from that,
03:46you know, rich 60s, 70s there. And we also have that brick that reminds us of the Mexican town and
03:54that, you know, that low, you know, how can something with some simple and so such low cost become
04:00something so beautiful. So we have a mixture of them both. And then we have a little old to the
04:05Mayan calendar that we did on top here. So we managed to get these sculptures made in fiberglass and
04:12been illuminated. And these are all the Mayan signs. This is the star. That is the moon. That is the
04:19monkey.
04:19And this is like the whole Mayan zodiac. And so we created this kind of ambience. And it looks great
04:25at night. You have to come and see this at night.
04:38This is our Mayan shrine, very distinctly from Hotel Mexicola. Seminyan has his own. Our sign for this
04:46adventure, this is a very particular thing that we want to take you into a journey. This here you see,
04:54dogs are sacred in the Mayan culture. The dog animal is a spiritual animal that takes you to paradise.
05:00Through this gate, you eventually gonna enter to what we are portraying here, which is the garden
05:08of paradise. And that is where the artwork is gonna go. Pop! It will be the best and most beautiful
05:15garden
05:16we ever had. We would like to take you to our booth area. This booth area is really, really fun.
05:24It's when you really want to feel very important. High heels, purse, tequila!
05:41This is a very, very comfortable area. Really fun as well. We've got the wiggle chairs. All face the
05:48colors, blue, the pinky. Just like in the south of Mexico, there's a lot of pastel colors. We got the
05:55beautiful lounges with the confetti pattern that carefully grasped by Carlos because he wanted to
06:02create a bit of festivo. You got the lights over here, the lamps that he loved and a little bit
06:07of a
06:08star. The mirrors are spectacularly and they've been there like they look like they've been there for a
06:14very long time. Neons represents a little bit of the 60s era. The whole Motel Mexicola is based on
06:22three eras of Mexico. The glorious time in Mexico. But Carlos is going to explain you this.
06:27Okay, so when we started dreaming this place up, we thought of three very important eras in Mexico.
06:34We talked about the pre-Columbian era, which is the Mayan and the Aztec and the Olmec. But we did
06:39a lot
06:39of hints to the Mayan because we're talking about southern Mexico here. Then we have the colonial era,
06:45which is all the haciendas, all of the arches. You'll see some of those examples around. And then the last
06:50era that we scaled upon is the golden beach times of Mexico. Not just Acapulco, but also Cancun and
07:00the beginning of these crazy, fantastic eras full of color, full of parties, stars from all over the
07:06world were coming. And that really put Mexico on the map since, you know, 60s and 70s. So you'll see
07:13a little bit of that. The pre-Columbian, the colonial, and just the hip 60s, 70s party time.
07:21Through this neon paradise, we go back to fruteria, what I believe to be the real estate area. It's
07:33beautiful breeze, ocean views. Believe it or not, we got a little bit of ocean. And this is where people
07:40really like to be outdoors. This is the outdoor. It's really fun. It's high energy. People wait here
07:47for a table. People get some drinks before your dinner. This is the place to finish. This is the
07:52place where people want to come and, you know, feel like it's splitting into the street. This is where
07:58you get all the fresh products of Bali. Again, like we mentioned before, there's similarities in between
08:04this island and my home in Mexico.
08:18Well, so like I've come, where I live is in Akumal, Mexico, which is in the Yucatan Peninsula.
08:25Now there we have a special kind of suckling pig we call cochinita. Also here in Bali, they are very
08:33fans of the suckling pig. It's called the Babiguli. So we have like all of these just matching ideas
08:41of Mexico and Bali, and you're trying to bring them up to life. So this is our PIV station that
08:49we created here. It's reminiscent of a Mexican hacienda. And so we have some of the magic is
08:54being made inside. So we'll have to show you some of that in a little while.
09:11I want to introduce you to our Lady of Guadalupe, the mother of Mexico and the mother of Las Americas.
09:19She's a patron saint and keeper of all of the Americas. She was a miracle. She appeared in Mexico.
09:26And I got this. It's a copy of the original and it was blessed by the Bishop of La Villa
09:34in Mexico.
09:35And we brought her directly to bless. And his name is Carlos. How coincidence.
09:39His name is Carlos the priest. The priest that blessed his virgin.
09:50Okay, so we have a little bit more of an experience for you guys. We did a mixture
09:54of some of the tiles that are, you know, that we also have in Mexico and we also have in
09:59Bali. We
10:00have these hand painted, uh, wash faces. We have these old school tabs. And then we did this cute
10:07neon neon to go around it and the colors and the matching just as well. It's got that whole Mexico
10:14called DNA. It's brought in like a nucleus just for the rest of the room. So you have to try
10:20those too.
10:32Shalom, Nicolás speaking. Ricardo Moltealban reservation for tonight? Certainly sir. Two people,
10:41see you here tonight.
