Today’s featured work, [Perfect Mirage], was written based on the core theories of the master of modern psychoanalysis, Jacques Lacan: the "Mirror Stage." Lacan argued that the moment humans recognize their own perfect image in a mirror and think, "That is me," they become separated from their actual, incomplete selves and trapped within a seemingly perfect image. This project visualizes a subject who gazes at the gap between an "ideal self" and her "actual self" through the medium of a glass window, utilizing that very gap to construct herself as a perfect object.
The line "Perfect Mirage! Looking through the glass!" in the lyrics sings of the subject's decision to fix herself as an image on the boundary between reality and illusion. Furthermore, the declaration "The further the reflection pulls from you" reflects her will to exist as an alluring mirage—never fully graspable—through the distance between the image projected with others' desires and her actual self.
The image you try to reach is but a mirage. Following the gaze of the designer who constructs herself as an object within a perfect frame, I hope you enjoy a time of pleasant contemplation as you face the true self beyond the mirror.
