🔮 Pagans in Salt Lake City
When most people hear “Salt Lake City,” Paganism probably isn't the first religion that comes to mind.
But witches, Wiccans, Druids, ceremonial magicians and other Pagans have been building communities in Utah for decades.
Local Pagan organizers have traced Utah's earliest recorded coven to 1981. By the 1990s, Salt Lake's Pagan community was appearing in local media. In the 2000s, Pagan Pride events brought public rituals, organizations and celebrations into local parks.
And the community is still here.
Covens, Pagan organizations, gathering places and public seasonal celebrations continue in the Salt Lake Valley today.
So how did a visible Pagan community grow in the heart of Utah—and why did some of its members decide they didn't want to stay hidden?
Welcome to another piece of Salt Lake City history hiding in plain sight—and another stop on our journey into Paganism and the Wheel of the Year.
