Can the country handle over 70,000 seized vehicles? A massive backlog is clogging municipal vehicle depots, forcing the National Council of Concessions to seek a private company to manage this overwhelming service.
This initiative aims to dramatically improve efficiency and sustainability within the vehicle storage system, addressing a consistently growing number of impounded cars. The plan includes managing all current depots and potentially establishing new ones in key regions.
The new service provider would be responsible for vehicle transport, storage, and security. Crucially, they would also develop a platform allowing citizens to track their impounded vehicles.
The current situation is dire, with depots overflowing and even police vehicles struggling for space. This accumulation creates unsanitary conditions and significant logistical challenges for authorities.
A major factor contributing to the overflow is the low rate of vehicle retrieval. A significant percentage of seized vehicles remain unclaimed, exacerbating the already critical space shortage.
To tackle this, the project also seeks to streamline the processes for vehicle donation and auction, aiming to reduce the overall number of vehicles held in long-term storage.
