00:10over the Bay of Bengal moves towards the state coast.
00:13The India Meteorological Department, or IMD, on Monday forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall
00:19in several parts of Orisha on September 23 and 24 under the influence of the weather
00:25system.
00:26IMD Director-General Mrityunjai Mohapatra said, Southern Orisha, particularly districts
00:32located south of Puri, are likely to be the worst affected by the deep depression.
00:37Strong winds with speeds of around 55-65 kmph are expected to begin from the evening of
00:43September 22.
00:44According to the IMD-DG, the deep depression is likely to cross the southern Orisha coast
00:49between the night of September 23 and the morning of September 24.
00:53As the system moves across the region, several areas are expected to receive heavy to extremely
00:59heavy rainfall on September 23 and 24.
01:02Some locations could receive rainfall of up to 20 cm, Mrityunjai Mohapatra said.
01:08The weather system is also likely to increase rainfall in interior parts of Orisha by September
01:1325.
01:13The IMD-DG cautioned that intense rainfall could lead to a rise in river water levels,
01:19particularly in areas receiving persistent heavy showers.
01:22Low-lying areas may also face water-locking or inundation.
01:26He further said that the possibility of urban flooding cannot be ruled out, especially in
01:31areas that receive intense rainfall over a short period.
