00:00Flags were raised outside the United Nations headquarters in New York on Monday ahead of

00:05the General Assembly annual meeting of world leaders. Police officers, canine teams and law

00:12enforcement drones were out in force in preparation for the high-level gathering that begins on

00:18Tuesday. This year's event is expected to see the African Union push for a bigger voice at

00:24the world body, including permanent African representation at the UN Security Council.

00:31On Monday, the heads of the AU and UN met to discuss reforms to international financial

00:38institutions, debt sustainability and ensuring Africa derives greater value from its mineral

00:46assets. The UN Development Programme will also host events on African access to AI technology.
