00:00York has been named the best place in Yorkshire and the Humber to grow old,
00:04ranking 30th out of 294 districts across England.
00:09The study by care home operator Lovett Care scored local authority districts
00:13across 37 measures, covering six areas.
00:17Healthcare, getting around without a car, housing and living costs,
00:21the local environment and community and safety were all considered.
00:24York scored 71.6 out of 100 and came second in the region for care.
00:30Some 92.5% of the care services an older resident could be choosing between
00:35a rated good or better by the Care Quality Commission,
00:38the highest share in Yorkshire and the Humber.
00:41The city also has the region's lowest rates of frequent loneliness and low income among the over-60s.
00:47Just 5.8% of adults report feeling lonely often or always,
00:51while 10.49% of over-60s live on a low income.
00:55York also has the lowest rate of fuel poverty in the region,
00:58meaning fewer households are struggling to afford to keep warm.
01:01It's ranked third in Yorkshire in the Humber for getting around without a car
01:05and has more libraries for its population than any other district in the region.
01:10North Yorkshire was ranked second in the region and 41st in England,
01:14while Barnsley was third in the region and 49th in England.
01:17North Yorkshire leads for community and safety,
01:20while Barnsley has the region's strongest environment score,
01:23but it's York that comes out on top overall.
01:26It's the highest ranked place in Yorkshire and the Humber for growing old.
