00:43The prosecution says Davao City Mayor Sebastian Baste Duterte's statement downplaying his city
00:48government's contracts with GenCorp only strengthens the need for him to take the witness stand.
00:52This on day 28 of the impeachment trial of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.
00:57The younger Duterte confirms GenCorp bagged 19 contracts worth 33 million pesos with the city
01:03government since 2022, higher than the 14 million pesos that Rappler first reported last week.
01:09After Rappler's exclusive report was published, the prosecution requested the
01:12impeachment court to subpoena the Davao City Mayor.
01:15It only vindicated the request of the prosecution to subpoena the Mayor Baste.
01:24Private prosecutor Jay Tolosa echoes this and says,
01:27She's the same who's been able to meet. So all the more, we want him to take the stand, put
01:33it on record,
01:36The younger Duterte claimed he had no knowledge of his sister's ties to GenCorp, pointing out her name
01:41is not in the Securities and Exchange Commission filings of the firm. GenCorp was linked to the Vice
01:46President because she declared it in her statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth that she is
01:50a stockholder of the company. Private prosecutor Lorna Capunan says the Davao City Mayor failed to
01:55exercise due diligence and adds,
01:57If he says he does not know, well, the correct phrase is he ought to know as mayor. And then
02:07he
02:07will say that subordinates lang ang nag-approve, well, that again is a failure on his part. This is not
02:16only an admission, it is a confession.
02:20The government's electronic procurement system confirms GenCorp, a company linked to
02:25Vice President Sara Duterte, who want more contracts than initially reported by Rappler.
02:30PhilJep's division chief Rendell Sopeña tells the impeachment court that according to its database,
02:34GenCorp bagged P34.2 million in projects with the Davao City government. This is more than twice the
02:40P14.3 million in contracts previously identified by Rappler in its September 15 report. Meantime,
02:46Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte also confirms GenCorp has P33.2 million in contracts with Davao
02:52City Hall since 2022. This coincides with the time his older sister became Vice President and he
02:58assumed the mayorship of their hometown. But the Davao City Mayor claims he did not have
03:02knowledge of his sister's ties to GenCorp. He adds City Hall's deals with GenCorp are above board.
03:09The Senate approves a bill that institutionalizes a comprehensive school safety framework.
03:14This follows three fatal school shootings that shocked the country in the past months.
03:18On third and final reading, there were 17 affirmative votes, zero negative votes and zero abstentions
03:24for Senate Bill No. 2426 or the proposed Comprehensive School Safety Act. The bill's sponsor,
03:30Senator Bam Aquino says, this brings together existing child protection, mental health and disaster
03:35policies into a singular operational framework for public and private schools.

04:03a grade 9 student opened fire at a public high school in Banga, South Cotabato, killing three
04:08students and injuring eight others. It is the third such tragedy following the Tacloban City
04:13school shooting in June and another in Zamwanga City in August. The Department of Information and
04:20Communications Technology retracts its claim saying the House of Representatives called Meta CEO Mark
04:24Zuckerberg to a hearing on social media safety. In a clarificatory post Monday, September 22, it says,
04:30no House resolution was issued directing Zuckerberg to appear at a congressional hearing.
04:34This contradicts the agency's September 18 post where it labeled the development as breaking news.
04:39This post has since been taken down on Facebook. Several media organizations, Rappler included,
04:44reported on the post from the DICT's announcement. The DICT then blames news organizations for reporting
04:50on its social media announcements. News organizations CNN, MSNOW and Politico are suing US President Donald
04:58Trump and other members of his administration. The media group say they are doing it to protect
05:03their rights under the US Constitution's First Amendment. This after he banned the news outlets
05:08from the White House building grounds on Saturday, September 19. In a joint statement, the three
05:13news outlets write, the lawsuit aims to quote, defend the principles that the government does not
05:17decide what the press reports or publishes. Representatives for the White House did not immediately
05:22respond to Reuters' request for comment. Meantime, Trump's approval rating falls to 32 percent,
05:27the lowest of his political career. A new Reuters-Ipsos poll also finds voters are leaning
05:33away from supporting Trump's fellow Republicans in the November 3 midterm elections. The elections
05:38will determine control of Congress for the next two years. Dissatisfaction among Republicans on
05:44inflation has been growing since Trump launched the war on Iran in February.
