00:00And in New York, protesters gathered Tuesday near the United Nations headquarters to express their opposition to U.S. President
00:06Donald Trump's policies amid his address at the general debate.
00:10Our correspondent, Henry Camelo, has more details live from New York. Welcome, Henry, to From the South.
00:17Luis, greetings to you and the Telesur audience.
00:20This morning, as President Donald Trump spoke inside the United Nations, protesters gathered just a few blocks away to voice
00:28their opposition to his policies.
00:30The demonstration was near 43rd Street and 2nd Avenue, close to the heavily secure U.N. headquarters.
00:37Protesters chanted and held signs criticizing Trump and his policies.
00:42The protests led to arrests. About 20 people were taken into custody on Tuesday morning.
00:48Police said the protests and the arrests were peaceful.
00:52A video from the scene shows officers detaining some demonstrators and leading them onto a police bus while others continued
01:00shunting behind barricades.
01:02All of this happened with a very tight security around the U.N.
01:07Several streets were closed and the city had extra police units in place, counterterrorism teams, bomb squads officers, canine units
01:17and patrols by air and water.
01:19Officials said they expected demonstrations during the General Assembly and said they would allow peaceful protests while preventing violence or
01:29damage.
01:29So while the president delivered his message inside, protesters outside delivered a very different one, openly challenging his policies as
01:39police kept a tight security perimeter around the U.N.
01:44That's what I have for New York. Back to you in the studio.
01:48Thank you for the information. Let's now.
