00:32Both teams should have won and they didn't.
00:34They were destined to meet up in Kalamazoo
00:37to make it interesting.
00:38So, Doug, Kang, I'm pulling for the Broncos.
00:42But it's the Broncos
00:43that have the more proven offense
00:44that should overpower the Broncos' impressive defense.
00:47And when the dust settles,
00:48I have Boise State flying back to Idaho
00:50with smiles on their faces after a hard-fought victory.
00:53Kudos to Western Michigan
00:55for scheduling Michigan and Boise State this year.
00:58But it's going to be Boise's game.
00:59Yeah, I'm worried that Western Michigan's
01:01too one-dimensional here.
01:02Through three games,
01:03they've thrown just 150,
01:04for 157 yards per game.
01:06It's been mostly run.
01:07Boise's been pretty good against the run.
01:09And there are some real sleepers that emerge
01:11as the season opens up.
01:13And many think the best running back in the country
01:15might be one of those guys,
01:17Jaden Baugh from Florida.
01:18But you can make an argument
01:19that Dylan Riley at Boise State,
01:21who's third in the country in rushing
01:22and averages over 7.3 yards per carry.
01:25He could be the best running back in the country
01:27in the next Ashton Gentry, dare we say?
01:30I'll take Boise in a one-score fourth-quarter game.
01:33All right, Western's going to want to run the ball,
01:35but Boise State's actually the middle of the pack
01:37with their run defense.
01:38Where Boise might be vulnerable, though,
01:40is big pass plays, all right?
01:42I like Western to win the game with a big pass play.
01:45Maybe a last-second Hail Mary, actually.
01:48Western pulls out the ups.
01:53All right, Indiana has caught some flack
01:56for their non-conference schedule.
01:57They're 3-0 with wins over North Texas,
02:00Western Kentucky, and Howard.
02:01Do you think they are a true playoff contender,
02:03or is it way too soon because they're given
02:06their schedule they've played?
02:09Yeah, it's too early.
02:10This is unbelievable, but it's a very true statement.
02:13Indiana football is living off its reputation right now,
02:17and it's working for them.
02:18As they always do.
02:20The Hoosiers.
02:21They play Northwestern Friday night.
02:23The Wildcats turn some heads with their defensive performance
02:26against Colorado.
02:27And don't look now.
02:28Aiden Childs went 17 of 22 with three touchdowns
02:31against the Buffaloes.
02:32I will not be surprised if this game is in doubt
02:35deep into the second half.
02:37Indiana has a lot to prove.
02:38Well, I would agree that I think it is way too early to say that they're a contender.
02:43However, they are at Indiana.
02:45I don't think this week's matchup against Northwestern is a joke either.
02:48And Northwestern's played very well in the two games they've played so far.
02:51And you mentioned the dumping of Colorado 41-7.
02:55It's actually an impressive win that they've got for the Wildcats so far.
03:00But not only did they beat Colorado, they also beat South Dakota State,
03:04which I know some people say, oh, big deal, South Dakota State.
03:06But we know what a juggernaut they are at the lower levels.
03:08But that being said, Doug, I did something that maybe I think everybody else should try doing.
03:13And that is, I googled Kurt Cignetti.
03:18And it said that his teams are, in fact, really good.
03:20In fact, they're the defending national champions.
03:22I lied earlier.
03:23It's not too early.
03:24These guys under that coach are not going away anytime soon.
03:27But I do think the Northwestern could be sneaky good throughout the season.
03:31Yeah, it's a soft schedule.
03:32But they did what they were supposed to do,
03:34destroy those teams when you're a really good team.
03:36They're the fifth-ranked team in the country because they are Indiana guys.
03:39That's right, put some respect on their name.
03:41They're the defending national title champions.
03:44They are a true playoff contender, even with that soft schedule.
03:49All right, Alabama's offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb took a shot at the fans
03:53for booing the Crimson Tide after back-to-back three and outs
03:57to open the game against Florida State.
03:58Alabama then scored on each of its next nine possessions.
04:02Grubb has since apologized.
04:03Should he have to apologize, or are fans just too quick to boo?
04:09No, he should have apologized.
04:11In fact, he should have agreed with the fans and said that they have the high standards,
04:14and that's what Bama football is all about.
04:16He should have embraced the situation and said that the fans fueled them
04:21to a near-perfect performance after their disapproval.
04:24So, yeah, he should have apologized for not understanding what the fans clearly understand,
04:28and that is that losing football is totally unacceptable in Tuscaloosa.
04:32Boy, what a spoiled fan base they are.
04:35We're coming off of Nick Saban.
04:36The next staff was just not going to win them over without, like, winning every game
04:40for the first two years.
04:41And Kalen DeBoer and his staff, that's a tough spot to be in from a public relations standpoint.
04:48What he said was, I'm glad my team didn't quit like our fans did,
04:52which I think is kind of a funny line.
04:54The booing and lack of patience to me is crazy.
04:56It's a hot-take world, and conclusions are drawn way too quickly,
05:00and fan bases are just reacting to what the media does, and we're all dumber for what we do.
05:05The fire-everybody mentality is ridiculous, but that is one heck of a strong football team
05:12that just isn't living up to Nick Saban's standards.
05:15And to expect them to live up to Nick Saban's standards is unrealistic.
05:19I think that staff is doomed there, and I think they're going to continue to get booed,
05:22and I won't be surprised if it gets even more uncomfortable.
05:26Oh, one other factor, they now have alcohol at all college football stadiums
05:29that you didn't have a decade ago.
05:31And so that could fuel fans as well.
05:34So even if you are correct in criticizing fans, you just never, ever win by criticizing fans.
05:40So I think he should have apologized.
05:42And the question of, are fans too quick to boo?
05:45Of course they are.
05:46But being a fan kind of gives you the license to boo and cheer when you want,
05:49within reason, of course, not throwing things, whatever.
05:51But as far as just booing and cheering, fans are allowed to do that, man.
05:56All right, LSU and Ole Miss.
05:58Late fourth quarter, tied at 24.
06:01Ole Miss scores and then goes for a two-point conversion for an eight-point advantage.
06:05It's unconventional, but what do you think about this risky move?
06:11So there's two ways to approach it.
06:13One is you think about if you're going to be in that one-score game,
06:18like even in overtime,
06:19if the other team scores a touchdown, kicks the extra point,
06:22you've already decided if we score a touchdown, we're going for two.
06:25You can do that when you take a lead as well.
06:28And just say, we're going to go for two no matter what.
06:30But what they did was beyond brilliant.
06:32And I wish I'd thought of it before.
06:34Somebody else here locally had thought of it.
06:36And that is just line up for a two-point conversion,
06:38hard count them, and get them to jump off sides.
06:40They did it twice.
06:41LSU did it twice.
06:42I think this is low-key one of the smartest moves I've ever seen by a coach,
06:47and I applaud Pete Golding.
06:49Well, look, this is exactly why I think it made sense,
06:52because LSU did jump off side,
06:53and it moves the ball from the three-yard line to the one-yard line.
06:57It's a saucy call, but no question also gave them the edge.
07:01I love what they did.
07:02When you've got a dynamic quarterback like they have with Trinidad Chambliss,
07:07it changes the odds in your favor because the entire playbook is open to you
07:11with a guy like that.
07:13So, yeah, it's not a hard and fast rule,
07:16but I likely support this most times if you get the ball at the one-yard line
07:20instead of the three-yard line, and not just late in the game,
07:24but maybe any time in the game.
07:27I usually enjoy outside-the-box thinking,
07:29but I think this is too aggressive for me.
07:31And unless you're telling me I automatically get it at the one-yard line,
07:34I don't play that game where I have to draw them off sides,
07:36it's getting me closer because if they don't draw them off sides,
07:39I'm not going for it from the three-yard line.
07:41That's me.
07:41But I do endorse going for two when you're up seven to go up nine
07:45and make it a two-possession game.
07:47I think that's the aggressive I like because even if you don't get it,
07:50you're still up the touchdown and the extra point,
07:53which they have to convert both.
07:54But when you make it and you get to go up nine,
07:57that's two possessions, and that puts them really in a deep hole,
07:59the defending team that is.
08:04All right, as we approach the end of September,
08:06I need you to pick me a sleeper team that not really many people are talking
08:10about that can make the college football playoff.
08:14I'm going to go with the team from the Big 12 that Nick Saban actually picked
08:17against, and I was surprised that he did because it was his alma mater,
08:23West Virginia.
08:24He picked against them last week, and what did they do?
08:26They went out and they beat Virginia.
08:28Okay, and that was a ranked team at the time, and they're still ranked right now.
08:32The schedule allows for them to stack up some wins before really proving themselves
08:36at the end of the season when they're going to have to against ranked teams
08:39like Texas Tech, Houston, and Utah, and they're going to have to earn it.
08:43However, Doug and Kang, they've got a pretty good dual-thread quarterback
08:47in Mitchell Hawkins.
08:48He's a quarterback who's already racked up six rushing touchdowns
08:51to go with five passing.
08:52As a team, they've run for over 800 yards on the season so far,
08:57and over five yards to carry, they should have an impressive resume
09:01when the committee finally meets.

09:03I'm going to go with Iowa.
09:05Look at their schedule.
09:06If the Hawkeyes beat Michigan Saturday, they've got Ohio State and Washington
09:10in the next two weeks.
09:11If they split those games, I think they're going to the playoff.
09:14Now they've played a light schedule so far, but if they're good enough
09:17to win at the big house, and they currently lead the country in total D
09:20and scoring D, their rushing attack led by Kamari Mouton, who has been hurt,
09:25and running back two, three, and four last week went for over 100 yards.
09:30And I'm not sure that the walk-on isn't the best of them, Braden Jackson.
09:33It's all going to come down if their Auburn transfer quarterback,
09:36Hank Brown, can lead his team over to a win, over a win of a team like Michigan
09:41or Ohio State.
09:42If they can win one of those games, then I think they're playing Washington
09:46for a chance to go to the playoff.
09:48So I think I'm going to go with Florida.
09:50They're ranked 21 right now, but I just don't feel enough people
09:52really talking about them or feel threatened by them personally.
09:54Maybe it's just the circles I'm running in.
09:56But they might have the best running back in the country.
09:58They've got that new transfer quarterback, and it was some decent quarterback play.
