00:06Controversy. Revenge.
00:08Bear for Heisman on campus.
00:13How aware were you of your productition?
00:16And if you believe $2.99, then you believe in Barretale.
00:19He had breakfast.
00:20Yeah, well, I think they're both bull******.
00:23There's a bear on the loose in Provo.
00:26Touchdown, Red Raiders, Michigan.
00:28I'm not going to, so quit asking.
00:31And Georgia was supplying the butt.
00:33Yeah!
00:36You know, just when you think there's not going to be a lot of college football storylines developing,
00:42the sport provides, and it certainly did this weekend.
00:45And we're going to start with Tommy Carr, who relieved an ineffective Bryce Underwood at halftime
00:50to spark the Wolverines to a 21-18 win over Penn State.
00:53Now, I thought of a funny quip walking out of the press box after the game.
00:58Which I have converted into a question, which I ask very intentionally.
01:02Is there a quarterback controversy at Michigan?
01:06No, shouldn't be.
01:08And I don't think there will be.
01:09Because even though, and I think Kyle Whittingham answered your question the way you wanted it answered.
01:15I appreciated that.
01:17We know who it's going to be, but we don't need to tell Indiana.
01:21Certainly don't want to tell Rutgers the following week what's going on.
01:25The only controversy it would create, or could be created, is if they're indecisive.
01:31If they go back and forth.
01:33If they create a system where there's a two-quarterback system, which I despise.
01:37I think they said they don't want to do that.
01:39Right, and so, yeah, no, it's, hey, you put Tommy out there, and you let him play the rest of
01:45the season.
01:45And see what happens.
01:47And then you judge him on his merits.
01:49It's funny, Signetti was asked about it, and he's like, yeah, I watched the second half.
01:52Probably going to be that guy.
01:53Yeah.
01:55No, I don't think there's any controversy.
01:57And it's not even really about Tommy being special.
01:59He's still a true freshman.
02:00It's more about Bryce being that bad.
02:02He played himself out of a job.
02:03Doesn't read defenses.
02:04More picks than touchdowns.
02:06They can't even run the ball with his legs and the extra blockers.
02:09A change had to happen.
02:11Penn State has now lost four straight Big Ten games under Matt Campbell.
02:15Last year, PSU fired James Franklin after losing three in a row, a streak that eventually reached six.
02:22Is Campbell an improvement over Franklin as the Nittany Lions head coach?
02:28No.
02:30Four Big Ten losses?
02:31Franklin avoided that in three of his final four seasons.
02:34He won a hundred games, a Big Ten title, and multiple playoff games.
02:37Campbell's got a long way to go before he's James Campbell.
02:41James Franklin.
02:44Wow, that's great.
02:45I like what you did there.
02:47No.
02:48And as much as I think Franklin is an absolute joke, track record says that he could still win games.
02:56May not be able to win the ranked games.
02:58May not be able to ultimately win Big Tens or national championships.
03:01But last year was more of a one-off.
03:04And I believe if James Franklin was there right now, they'd be in a better position.
03:07Yeah.
03:08By the way, both of those guys got the Penn State job by accruing decent records at mid-level non
03:16-football powers, by the way.
03:17Vanderbilt and Iowa State.
03:19Number one Georgia fell to Auburn a week after number one Texas lost to Oklahoma.
03:25Georgia beat Alabama, who beat Kentucky, but lost to Tennessee.
03:28Kentucky beat LSU, who lost to Ole Miss, but thumped to Mississippi State.
03:32The Reds just blasted Mizzou, who blew out Florida, who gave Texas their second straight loss.
03:37Did I forget anybody?
03:39What does this amount of parody say about the SEC?
03:42Nothing that parody doesn't say about the Big Ten.
03:47In the SEC, you've got four teams with one loss.
03:49You've got eight teams with two losses, all within striking distance.
03:52Now, some with better chances than others.
03:54But in the Big Ten, you've got two unbeatens, which I don't think they ultimately end up unbeaten.
03:59It's UCLA and Ohio State.
04:00And Ohio State is playing without their starting quarterback.
04:03You also have seven teams with one loss.
04:06There is parody around college football.
04:09Look at the top 25.
04:10Look at the conferences.
04:11There is parody everywhere, which is why they're going to 24 teams.
04:17Exciting.
04:17My head's still spinning about all that SEC chaos.
04:20It says there's no dominant team, but that's been the case for at least the last three years
04:25where the SEC hasn't played four, let alone won a national title.
04:28And you know what this is?
04:29This is the byproduct of a ninth conference game that they had avoided for years.
04:34The Big Ten had been doing it.
04:35The ACC was doing it.
04:37They should have to take their lumps like everybody else, and it exposes them.
04:40I'm interested to see about Georgia particularly if this is just a stub your toe against a rival who can
04:45rise up and beat you,
04:46or if this is a sign of greater things or more dangerous things for the Bulldogs going forward.
04:54There is an adage that the best way to win the Heisman Trophy is to play for Notre Dame or
05:00beat Notre Dame.
05:02Bear Bachmeier ran for two touchdowns, threw for another, and caught a fourth in BYU's upset win over number one
05:09for four hours Notre Dame.
05:10Will Bachmeier be a Heisman Trophy finalist?
05:13You're saying finalists not necessarily win it.
05:16Moments are big, and that's a big moment in a big spot.
05:20I think he needs at least one more.
05:22They'll play number 10 Utah at Utah in November.
05:26That is where he cements his case to go to New York.
05:28The question will be is how many Heisman Trophy voters are actually watching BYU?
05:34Now, if they're doing their job right, they should be watching every single game, but I don't know that there's
05:40a lot of voters that really care much about the Big 12.
05:44And, yeah, they had that moment.
05:45You mentioned they're going to have another one against Utah.
05:47You know who else is going to beat Notre Dame?
05:48Miami.
05:49And they've got two guys that are going to be Heisman Trophy finalists in Darian Mensah, Malachi Tony.
05:55You've also got Jeremiah Smith, Trinidad and Chambliss.
05:58Bear is in the mix.
06:00I think he'll be a finalist, but I don't think there's any chance he wins it.
06:03This was one of the wildest college football weekends we've seen reminiscent of 1990 or 2007.
06:10Forget the polls.
06:11You rank the top five.
06:12Okay.
06:12As it stands now, I've got number one Miami, number two BYU, Georgia, Ohio State, and Indiana.
06:22And those are my top five.
06:24And I say for now, because as we get further down the road, some teams are going to take some
06:30losses.
06:30I don't know, BYU, they've got that game against Utah, but I don't think their resume, are they just going
06:38to be there because they beat one team?
06:42So I will emphasize that these are rankings today.
06:48You can lose your way out of them or you can win your way up.
06:51I left out Notre Dame and Indiana because they don't have a big win.
06:55I left out UCLA, Utah, and Texas Tech who are all undefeated who can win their way into the top
07:01five.
07:01My top five, number five is Ole Miss, number four is Miami, number three is Georgia, number two is Ohio
07:09State, and number one is BYU.
07:12BYU is undefeated with arguably the best win in the country.
07:17Okay.
07:19You don't like the resume?
07:20You don't like Mormons?
07:21What's the deal?
07:22Jeez.
07:23I'm going to leave that one alone.
07:25Hey, remember when Brendan Sorsby ruined college football for a week in June?
07:30Well, this week, undefeated Texas Tech, his would-be home, travels to Cincinnati, his former home, and Sorsby's whereabouts are
07:40unknown.
07:41You know how much I love the revenge game in college sports.
07:45Is revenge still a factor for the Bearcats?
07:48No.
07:49I feel like this is such a nothing burger at this point.
07:51It's in the rearview mirror.
07:52Well, and I think the Bearcats are probably looking at it going, thanks.
07:56That's not our story.
07:58I know some of those issues did start at Cincinnati, and some of that has been uncovered, but everybody relates
08:06Sorsby with Texas Tech, not with Cincinnati.
08:09So they're sitting there going, thanks.
08:12Hat on the back.
08:13Appreciate you helping us out there.
08:15Finally, who's on upset alert in week eight?
08:18I didn't check last week, by the way.
08:19We had this chaotic week last week.
08:21I don't know who got anything right last week.
08:23I hope one of you guys got something.
08:26All right.
08:26Good job.
08:28Week eight, what do you got?
08:30I could go with the same one, but you tell me if this is fair or foul.
08:35Number seven, Ole Miss at number 19, Texas.
08:38But Texas is favored by three.
08:40So if we're just going by point spread, then I would think that Ole Miss beating Texas would then be
08:48an upset.
08:49Yeah.
08:50But it's still a 17 beating a 19 team.
08:52So I'm going to go with USC.
08:53Be on the lookout.
08:54Traveling to Wisconsin.
08:56Because Luke Fickle is doing what he can to save his job.
09:00And if he wants to solidify another year, you beat USC at home.
09:06They have the defense to be able to do it offensively.
09:09I'm not too sure, but they have the defense to do it.
09:12Might be a fork in the road for both teams because that could affect Lincoln Riley's job.
09:15And by the way, I could say they're traveling with Traveler.
09:19Yes, thank you.
09:20Okay, I want to show my work on this because I got to the same conclusion.
09:22Does Traveler travel?
09:23I don't think so.
09:24No.
09:25It's too cold for him.
09:28As I canvassed the slate, I started with number 11, Tennessee, who's actually an underdog at three and three, South
09:34Carolina.
09:34So I moved on.
09:36Arizona in a look ahead spot to Texas Tech.
09:39Ranked Arizona could slip up with ISU.
09:42But I think that's not really the big upset.
09:43The big upset is the one John brought up.
09:45And I'll add one extra detail.
09:46USC goes to Camp Randall at night.
09:49It's a look ahead spot.
09:50The Trojans are dreaming of the Buckeyes.
09:52Do not sleep on the Badgers.
09:55Two of the most despised teams.
09:59USC is the Ohio State of the West.
10:02And that is on campus.
10:0497-1.
