00:54do you think well I Michigan State's going to play at Wisconsin Wisconsin just
00:59got done with a phenomenal comeback against Penn State on the road to win that game but Wisconsin's playing some
01:05pretty good football and it's not your typical Wisconsin team that's just going to throw a bunch of you know
01:10farm boys up on the front line and run it for 400 yards a game that's not what's happening what
01:15what they're doing is having a balanced attack and they're really throwing the ball quite quite well with that offense
01:21that Luke Fickle's got going now and I think Wisconsin is clearly just a better team than Michigan State right
01:26now so what are we going to learn about
01:28this it's it's it's you know it's not that Michigan State doesn't have a chance but hey they just lost
01:34their best offensive player for the season with a knee injury which is really unfortunate because look like Cam was
01:40going to have a really nice season and be a really good piece for Michigan State the Spartans are they're
01:45thin with talent and it seems like every week they've got guys leaving the game whether it's for a play
01:51or a series or for the game it's just injuries I know it's a part of the game but this
01:57is a team that can
01:57it'll afford to have those injuries yeah the quarterback has to step up and be better
02:03Milivojevic has had some really nice games in his short career as a Spartan but he's got to bounce back
02:10and and and have a much better game they tried doing the two quarterback thing with Cam Fancher last week
02:15and he comes in for a series and throws a horrific interception and that may have stunted his growth as
02:22a quarterback I suspect that there'll be some kind of packages they want to use with him because of his
02:26feet
02:26uh but Michigan State's got to get into the end zone and and not it's the same story right you
02:32you got to finish drives don't settle for field goals don't shoot yourselves in the foot they don't have to
02:37play flawlessly but they got to play a lot better they they need to get back to being this fundamentally
02:42sound team that that brings the effort the effort's been there I've been impressed with that from Pat Fitzgerald to
02:48get this team to play uh at a high compete level
02:53but that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to translate to a six or seven win season and this is a

03:59know next year i feel the defense could be all world but this year it's all a struggle and it's
04:04mostly because they're forcing a round peg into a square hole or the other way around bryce underwood
04:08is not a quarterback he's an amazing athlete but as long as he is the quarterback the word
04:12precarious is going to roll through your head um so underwood i thought that was underwood's best
04:19game coming off like what what he did on saturday and you know it wasn't perfect don't get me wrong
04:27it wasn't perfect um but if you take a look at sort of their expansion of the playbook their use
04:33of
04:33bryce on the run and you know what is an underrated thing his comfort in the pocket letting plays
04:41develop through four weeks it's got astronomically better and a lot of plays that were going nowhere
04:50are now allowed the opportunity to develop because underwood is not tucking too quickly
04:59and not seeing ghosts pressure that isn't there um but you know i mean look uh i stood that doesn't
05:06mean i don't think it's precarious uh i just i would think bryce has got a chance here to develop
05:12into a hell of a quarterback yeah i think he does too and this this game against minnesota i think
05:16minnesota is going to play tough that's pj fleck teams always do uh they can bow their neck and
05:20they can win a game and surprise some teams at who they beat and michigan has to be on high
05:25alert for
05:25that this week but i i do think michigan has progressed uh i agree 100 about bryce he played
05:31really well in the game on saturday i mean you look at michigan's problems they rolled up over 400
05:36yards in offense against that iowa defense that's a really good iowa defense and that's as fundamentally
05:41sound as it gets the problem michigan ran into they didn't finish drives they had eight penalties
05:46for 75 yards um and you know this turnover battle was one nothing in favor of of iowa because of
05:53the
05:53interception but it's it was a special teams lapse that cost them well when you allow a kickoff return
05:59for a touchdown after you scored i mean that's going to be it's got to be a little bit deflating
06:04there um you're all excited and high from the the touchdown and uh and then that happens but it's
06:10it is what it is um it's this is a a team that still has a long way to grow
06:16i think they're still
06:17learning their coach but they've got talent they got players and this is a team i think it's built
06:21for the second half of the season but they got to make hay right now they've got winnable games
06:26go win them um i i understand the coach feels like it's hey we're it's like i feel like we're

06:31four i think the rest of the country looks at you and says two and two maybe coach not oh

06:36but whatever he's he's trying to motivate his players and get them going um hopefully for their

07:07and you know obviously heartbreak and lost but you know the holes were opening up on the offensive
07:12line we were able to run the ball a lot better you know and not like it was against utep

07:16this is against an iowa defense so despite the loss it just feels like the skill is there the coaching
07:24is there it'll just take a little bit of time uh all to come together you know even whittingham i

07:36be a little bit of learning curve too you know we keep saying we're still installing the culture we're
07:40still installing the culture so it's a work in progress but i'm still strangely encouraged despite
07:45the loss to iowa how we lost yeah i mean one of the things that i'm rooting for here and

07:50you know um just to sort of re-establish michigan football is a nice quiet year and my what i

07:58that is is no controversies nothing they're you know kids let's face it in this day and age
08:06there's going to be stuff that happens it just happens with everybody but nothing major
08:12everybody everybody knows what's happened with michigan football under kyle whittingham
08:17so it's a nice calm year settle things down and and then sort of really puts put the put the
08:24pedal
08:25down in terms of winning moving forward but um yeah they they kind of got to get their their bearings
08:31back here a little bit and i always call it a rudder quit the boat uh boat from rocking how

08:36questions though how you feel about milivojevich i i i think he's uh i still think he's a good
08:42quarterback i don't know if he'll ever be great but i think he's he's good for the program right now
08:46and uh he's i'd like to see him take off and run a little bit more the offensive line is

08:53no favors with the protection i mean the protection is pathetic again this year um so sacks allow in the
08:59big time yeah so if he's able to you know get through that first wave that's coming at him and
09:04you see green grass in front of you go ahead and take off i respect that you want to be
09:07tough and stay
09:08there as long as you can and then release the football but if you got at least five yards in

09:12of you go man go there were a number of occasions in the game uh last week where i really

09:18could have taken off and run and and chose not to kevin in lansing writes in does anyone find it
09:22odd that whittingham threw jay hill under the bus in the final play and reportedly said he didn't want
09:26to meddle with the play call this is very concerning i generally think whittingham would have called
09:30a timeout after iowa lined up and would have changed the defense maybe not but whittingham is
09:35going to get run out of town if he continues to make coaching mistakes um so having been around
09:41uh some staffs here including ones that won a lot they make mistakes those staffs made mistakes
09:49jesse minner and mike mcdonald in the nfl they made mistakes at michigan you just can't make so many that
09:54you lose a bunch of games i will tell you after sitting with jay hill and talking to jay hill
