00:08trial at the Shah Alam Sessions Court to three charges of receiving gratification amounting
00:14to more than RM302,000 linked to home renovations. 56-year-old Adi Azwan pleaded not guilty after
00:22the charges were read before Sessions Court Judge Awang Keriznada Awang Mahmood on Thursday.
00:27According to the charges, Adi Azwan allegedly received gratification in the form of home
00:33renovation costs amounting to RM235,866, RM50,699 and RM15,934 for three houses in Shah Alam,
00:47Kota Damansara and USJ2. He allegedly received the gratification from A.G. Rekha Sandirian
00:53Berhad Director Samsulazri Ismail, whom he allegedly knew had dealings connected to his
00:59duties. The offences were allegedly committed on March 7, 2017. The charges were framed under
01:06Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum two-year jail term, a fine or both
01:13upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin told the court that the offences
01:19were non-bailable but proposed bail of RM70,000 in one surety if the court exercised its discretion
01:27to grant bail. Lawyer Wan Azwan Ayman Wan Fakhruddin, representing Adi Azwan, asked for a lower bail of
01:34RM30,000, saying his client has four sons aged between 25 and 12, with the eldest studying at
01:41university. The lawyer also asked the court not to impound Adi Azwan's passport, saying he was not a
01:48flight risk. The court subsequently granted bail at RM50,000 in two sureties and ordered Adi Azwan
01:54to surrender his passport. The case has been fixed for mention on November 25. Outside the court,
02:01the accused managed to evade members of the media at the court complex,
02:05leaving journalists unable to obtain footage of him.
