During a heated congressional oversight hearing, Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) confronted the Trump administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over allegations of inconsistent federal accountability, controversial law-enforcement shootings, and conditions inside immigration detention facilities. Crockett questioned officials about the fatal shooting of ICU nurse Alex Pretti and demanded greater transparency over the investigation and potential prosecution of officers involved in disputed shootings. She also revisited her criticism of the fatal shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis, while defending her forceful language during tense exchanges with fellow lawmakers. The hearing has renewed debate over federal enforcement practices, ICE accountability, and transparency surrounding deaths involving law-enforcement personnel.

00:00There are so many more names that you will never hear.
00:05It is important.
00:07We only have 42 days.
00:10I don't want y'all to get distracted.
00:13I am not saying compromise who you are.
00:16I want to start by saying that I am about to be real partisan in this moment.
00:21I just am.
00:23Because I remember when there was a party that described themselves as the party of law and
00:27order, and it seems like all we're getting is lawlessness and obstruction.
00:32I think that Mr. Murphy, you have laid it out just now that you're not getting anything
00:38but obstruction and stonewalling.
00:40And I must say, because I am a lawyer, so I want to minimize some of the conversations
00:46that I have with some of you, but Ms. Carlson, as a witness to Mr. Preddy's death, has any
00:53federal agency like the DOJ or FBI reached out to you?
00:56We had a meeting with DHS, FBI, and some various forms of government on March 26th.
01:03And has anything come of that?
01:05No.
01:06Okay.
01:06So let's talk about this.
01:08Because we know that Mr. Preddy was killed on or about January 24th, 2026.
01:14Yet it doesn't seem as if anyone has been arrested for his killing, but juxtapose that with the
01:20fact that on June 19th, 2026, there was an Olympian by the name of David Hearn that was arrested
01:28for an issue with the reflecting pool.
01:31It tells me that the priorities have nothing to do with human life as it relates to this
01:38administration.
01:38In fact, this administration is engaged in division and distractions, and that takes me
01:43back to something that was said a little earlier by Mr. Ganger.
01:50You said, white people like me.
01:53Do you remember your opening statement where you said something about that?
01:56Yes.
01:57Okay.
01:58To give context to that, for those of you that don't know, my dad is a preacher.
02:02And when I go out and campaign sometimes, I usually don't pull from a Bible verse.
02:08I actually pull from usually a gospel song.
02:10And there is a song that goes, I need you to survive.
02:14And that song says, I need you, you need me, we're all a part of God's body.
02:20Stand with me, agree with me, we're all a part of God's body.
02:25The reason that I bring this up is because, unfortunately, at some point in time, we have
02:31gotten divided.
02:32And I sit here as a black woman in America that understands the terrible history that this
02:38country has had specifically with policing black folk in the past and in the present.
02:43I see the corollary between what is happening today, whether we are talking about people
02:48with accents, whether we're talking about people with less melanin than me, whether we are talking
02:53about people that simply are trying to survive.
02:56And so, again, with me being very partisan in this moment, I just want to be clear that
03:02there is only one party that isn't just talking about this.
03:06Because, sadly enough, when we look around this room, only one party showed up today.
03:11This has become a partisan issue when it should not be.
03:14And I am here to tell you that enough with the nonsense of Democrats are demons and devils
03:19and not Christians, and Democrats don't believe in lawfulness, because we do.
03:25But the difference is I believe in accountability for everybody.
03:28I don't care if you wear a uniform.
03:31The reality is that there are people that may or may not come across this and will say that
03:37I don't do politics.
03:38But I want to be clear, politics will do you.
03:41The last thing that I will say, because we do have these brave souls that are sitting here
03:46and sadly enough, they are telling their stories.
03:48But I want to be clear.
03:49I don't want y'all to think that these are one-offs.
03:51If you have been impacted by ICE in a detrimental way and you are in this room right now, I
03:56want
03:56you to stand.
04:04The reality is that there are so many more stories.
04:09There are so many more names that you will never hear.
