04:21And today the same place is filled with multi-storey buildings and commercial centres.

04:30It is said that this area was named after Mohan, the name of Bragana Krishna.

04:37The foundation stone of the Kalyandas Temple was laid here in 1850.
04:40Then around 1910 and 20, this neighborhood started getting populated properly.
04:45When partition took place in 1947, the entire population map changed.
04:49And then, after the Tabakun Silab of 2001, many old residents left here forever.
04:54If we look at the population before Partition, then about 60-70 percent of the population here were middle class Hindu Tajars.

06:45Kaliyan Das Temple

06:50The foundation stone of this temple was laid in 1850 by Lala Kalian Das Suri, a very wealthy Hindu businessman.

06:59This entire building is a magnificent example of Pancharatna style construction.
07:03Panchratna is a traditional Hindu architectural style consisting of five towers.
07:09A very beautiful aspect of this building is the design of its foundation.
07:13The lower part of the temple has been shaped exactly like the leaves of a lotus flower.

07:20According to Hindu belief, the lotus flower blooms in the woods.
07:23Therefore, this design symbolizes that they live amidst the filth and luxury of this female world.
07:30Man should also maintain his purity and spiritual cleanliness.

07:36As time passed, the purpose of this temple also changed.
07:39Before 1947, it was the central religious place of a large Hindu population.
07:44Later, it became a luxurious residence where Khandans like the Oberoi family lived.
