Jesse Plemons gets caught up in Digger madness

Jesse Plemons joins us on the red carpet at the Digger world premiere in London to talk about stepping into Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s brilliantly bizarre new world alongside Tom Cruise.    The Oscar-nominated actor plays Kenny in the darkly comic new film, which sees Cruise transform into Digger Rockwell -  the most powerful man in the world, desperately trying to convince everyone he can save humanity from the disaster he helped create.    We caught up with Jesse at the Royal Film Performance in Leicester Square to talk Digger, Tom Cruise and being part of one of the year’s wildest ensembles. 00:00That's Crazy Digger, you know?

00:01Right, you're in London at this amazing world premiere,

00:04and the film is unbelievable.

00:06The first time you've worked with Alandro,

00:07can you sum up his directorial style and what it was like working there?

00:11You know, it's funny.

00:14Both Alejandro and Tom Cruise are kind of in their own worlds entirely,

00:19but there is something similar in their relentless approach

00:25for the best possible version of whatever scene we were shooting.

00:30So, yeah, he's just relentless and brilliant,

00:35and, you know, it feels like you're kind of on the same level

00:38of just trying to find it, yeah.

00:41Tom, you've worked with him before, I think a decade ago?

00:44Yeah.

00:45What was it like being reunited?

00:47You know, I mean, it was thrilling.

00:51Ten years is not a short amount of time,

00:54so I feel like a lot of life happened in between,

00:57but to get to have this experience with the entire cast,

01:03but him taking such a huge swing day after day,

01:07I'm just so excited for the world to see what he's done here,

01:11because you've never seen him quite like this.

01:14It's unbelievable.

01:15What did you feel when you were on set,

01:16and how is it different to what you've done in the past?

01:19Well, I think the movie as a whole,

01:23the script, the production design, the tone,

01:30it kind of just exists in its own world,

01:33so I don't think I've ever done a film quite like this.

01:37So, yeah, every bit of it felt unique and special.

01:41And watching Tom dig her up, as he calls it,

01:43just what was that process like, just witnessing it?

01:46You know, it's funny.

01:49We all mainly saw him in his full Digger makeup and costume,

01:57or like various phases of it.

02:01So, it was strange how normal that became.

02:04And then, you know, we'd go out to dinner as a cast or whatever

02:08and see him as Tom Cruise,

02:09and it was really jarring to remember,

02:13because it was just like,

02:16that's crazy Digger, you know?
