00:00I'm proud of Bobby once he becomes governor, and he's going to turn on the microphone and use it all
00:05across Maine to not only talk about these problems, which too many politicians spend all their time doing, but actually
00:14fixing the problems in Maine.
00:18So let's talk about a few of those. The first one that comes to my mind that I hear from
00:23people up here, and I have relatives who live in Lincolnville, and they talk about the energy costs, and that
00:31every family in Maine is suffering from these incredibly high energy costs.
00:37And there's no reason for it. Let me tell you what we did in New Jersey. When I became governor
00:43of New Jersey, we imported 35% of all our electricity from outside the state.
00:50Well, we put together a program to build more natural gas plants, to be able to invest in things that
00:55actually help you turn the lights on.
00:57By the end of my eight years, we were an electricity exporter. We created all the electricity we needed inside
01:04the state of New Jersey, and we sold excess electricity to other states.
01:09Don't let people tell you it can't get done. Hannah Pingree was put in charge of climate and energy by
01:15Governor Mills.
01:16And so every time you open one of those electric bills, and when you open your last one between now
01:23and Election Day, and you see that number on there, I want you to understand, the person who is responsible
01:30for that number is Governor Mills' right-hand person, Hannah Pingree, and now she wants to bring that to the
01:37governor's mansion at Blaine House.
01:39You don't need that. We need to lower electric costs. Bobby Charles is going to do that.
01:50Everything is more expensive now. We all see it. It's not only at the gas pump, but it's also at
01:57our grocery stores, and everything costs more.
02:02Bobby Charles has shown how independent he is. When these tariffs and this dispute with Canada went into effect, it
02:12doesn't matter whether you're a Republican or a Democrat.
02:13It costs you the same to buy a gallon of milk. It costs you the same to buy a dozen
02:19eggs.
02:20And Bobby didn't care about the political party when it comes to that.
02:23When he sees that something is happening that's hurting Mainers, he stands up, and he's told the president, along with
02:30Senator Collins,
02:31stop fighting with Canada, stop fighting with our biggest trade partner, and let's get these prices down, stop the tariffs,
02:40and stop the fighting.
02:41And he's saying that to a Republican president.
02:44That's the kind of governor you want.
02:47It's not someone who's going to pick on every little thing that happens in Washington, D.C.
02:51just to get themselves on TV.
02:52You want people who are going to focus their fire on the real problem.
02:56Bobby Charles knows the real problem is prices in Maine for everything you need, and he is going to take
03:03on anyone,
03:04the president of the United States, the Congress, or anyone else who gets in the way to try to lower
03:08prices here in Maine to make it more affordable for all of you.
03:11You don't need someone like Hannah Pingree who has stood aside and watched all this happen with Janet Mills for
03:19the last eight years and done nothing about it.
03:21You want to change Maine, you better change governors.
03:25And Hannah Pingree isn't change, Bobby Charles is change.
03:35And lastly, an issue that really matters to me, and Bobby talked about it in his introduction.
03:41We had an enormous problem with opioids and drug abuse in New Jersey when I became governor.
03:48And look, I was in law enforcement for seven years.
03:51I was a U.S. attorney in New Jersey.
03:52I arrested drug dealers.
03:54I interdicted drug gangs and did the hard work that needs to be done to do that.
04:00But what Bobby understands is that's only half the problem.
04:03Because let's face it, drug addiction is a disease.
04:07And we have all seen it affect our friends, our family, our neighbors.
04:12We've seen thousands of unnecessary deaths here in Maine for people who didn't have to die.
04:18But they had an addiction that we didn't help treat.
04:22Now, I was taught from the time I was a young man that every life is a precious gift from
04:29God.
04:30And every individual has worth and value.
04:35And addiction is a disease.
04:38Bobby understands that.
04:39And so not only will he be tough on crime, you know, given his background, in the military, intelligence, working
04:47with folks like Colin Powell when he was in government, working to organize police forces all around the world to
04:55interdict drugs.
04:56He's done that.
04:57He'll do that as governor.
04:58That'll be the easy part.
05:00He'll do that as well.
05:30You got a perfect record on the judgments you've made?
05:32Yeah, me either.
05:33Me either.
05:35And many of us are just lucky that our bad judgment wasn't to take fentanyl or to take cocaine or
05:42to take meth and to get addicted.
05:45But for those folks who did, are we going to give them up and throw them away?
05:51That's not the kind of place America is.
05:53And it certainly isn't what Maine has been.
05:57And Bobby understands that.
05:58So, yes, he will jail the people who are profiting off of this poison.
06:04He'll send them to jail and make sure they stay there.
06:06I have no doubt about that.
06:07But that's only half of it.
06:09The other half he'll do, too.
06:11And by the way, Hannah Pingree was put in charge of that by Governor Miller, too, over the last eight
06:17years.
06:17So let's go over the record.
06:19We have thousands of overdose deaths.
06:22She was in charge of reducing them.
06:24They've gone up.
06:25You all have the highest property taxes in America per your income.
06:31Hannah Pingree was put in charge of that.
06:33They've gone up.
06:34They've raised taxes on you every year here in Maine.
06:38And they've driven your electricity costs through the roof.
06:42Let me tell you, the definition of crazy is doing the same thing over and over again and thinking it's
06:50going to be a different result.
06:52Continuing to vote for Maine Democrats and think that they're going to finally solve the problems is crazy.
07:01And believe me, I'm from New Jersey.
07:03We know crazy.
07:09So I'm thrilled to be here tonight.
07:13I know Bobby.
07:15I trust him.
07:17I'm up here because I believe in him.
07:20And I want you to believe in him, too.
07:22And let me tell you how this waste is going to be won or lost.
07:25And by the way, I'm not a stranger to Maine.
07:28You all may remember, in 2010 and in 2014, I was up here campaigning for Governor LePage.
07:35I was chairman of the Republican governors.
07:37In 2014, when everybody said there was no way Maine was ever going to reelect Paul LePage.
07:42And I said, I understand Maine.
07:44And they're not dumb.
07:45They had a good governor and they're going to keep him.
07:47And they did.
07:48So it's not my first trip to Maine by far.
07:51And like I said, I have relatives who live in Lincolnville.
07:55I care about this state.
07:56But I really care about you all making the right choice in this election.
08:01And it's only 41 days to go.
08:04So before Bobby and I take questions, I'll just end with this.
08:07I know a lot of you have your Bobby Charles stickers on tonight, your Bobby Charles T-shirts.
08:12I'm going to take that Bobby Charles hat.
08:14I bring that with me as a souvenir back to New Jersey.
08:19But so you're in the converted.
08:22You're amongst the converted.
08:23It reminds me of one time being in a Lutheran church in New Jersey.
08:28And the pastor gave a sermon on preaching to the choir.
08:35And he said, yo, people always say, don't preach to the choir.
08:38The choir is already in church.
08:39Why are you wasting your time to preach to the choir?
08:41And this pastor said, you don't understand.
08:45I preach to the choir so they'll sing.
08:50That's what I'm here to do.
08:51I know you're Bobby Charles supporters here tonight.
08:55And if any of you aren't, we'll make sure you are by the end of the night.

09:05And you're the choir and I'll preach it to the choir so you'll sing.

09:14You go out there and tell your friends, your neighbors, your colleagues at work, the folks you go to church
09:20with, the folks you see on the soccer field, or the folks you see at your local grocery store.

09:29Let people ask you, Bobby Charles, I heard of him.

09:38There is nothing more powerful, more powerful than the endorsement of a governor of New Jersey is an endorsement of
09:45your neighbor in Maine who says they know this guy in their forum.
09:48That's the most powerful endorsement.
09:50So if you leave with nothing else tonight, leave with the knowledge of the fact that you will decide this
09:56election, that the future of Maine is in your hands.
10:00And this good man has volunteered himself to come in and clean up this mess that Janet Mills and Hannah
10:07Pingree and the rest of these folks have left you in.
10:10He's not running away from the problem.
10:12He runs to the problems.
10:15And that's why I'm here to help him.
