00:00I'm really sad and alarmed by the protests that we've seen on the streets and I'm even more
00:05concerned about the fact that we have a government who don't seem to have given any real condemnation
00:09or any real sense of being on the front foot and talking about how important migration is in this
00:14country. We might have changed Prime Minister but we still have the same Home Secretary in
00:17Shibana Mahmood, someone who wants to or is changing indefinitely to remain, making it even
00:22more insecure for people who have made their life here. It just feels fundamentally un-British,
00:27I think, to move the goalposts once someone has come here, set up a life here, is working hard here,
00:32has family here, to keep changing the conditions. And yes, everyone wants to see the boats stopped,
00:37no one wants to see people clinging to their life because they're fleeing from war or persecution,
00:42but the way this government is going about it, we rarely hear them talk about having
00:46safe routes for passage. Now this came from a Conservative government shutting down the
00:50processing centres and creating a backlog, partly so they could blame migrants, refugees and asylum
00:55seekers and obviously they're different groups and it's important to distinguish that. But to have
00:59a Labour government who is just echoing the same rhetoric is both immoral but also it's politically
01:04nonsense because if you try and appease Nigel Farage and people even further write to him,
01:08they won't stop, they just get worse and worse and worse. And in this constituency we know people
01:13are proud of having a diverse constituency, they're proud of food, music, art, culture, but not some kind
01:19of trick that people need to play if they come over here. People are proud of our humanitarian approach
01:24to saying Camden, Hoban and St Pancras is a place that is welcoming.
