00:01The largest and perhaps cutest rodent on earth is now calling Canberra home.
00:07They're very relaxed, chilled boys. They just have a really sweet demeanour, they're really friendly with their keepers.
00:14So they can be a little flighty but once they get to know you they love a good scratch.
00:18The capybaras Javiero, Tejo and Javi have been on display since earlier this week.
00:24The brothers are sharing a special enclosure designed for Canberra's extremes.
00:28Not only is their pool heated, they also have heated shelters as well, but primarily they'll need shade in summer.
00:34So they do have very sensitive skin, so we'll be making sure that they're utilising the shade areas and not
00:40getting sunburnt.
00:41The zoo was looking for an animal that wouldn't mind having some llama neighbours in the near future.
00:46We all know capybaras, their chilled, relaxed demeanour, they get along with all different animal species,
00:53was a perfect fit to go into the space and cohabitate with our llamas.
00:57But the llamas will have to accept some noise from next door.
01:01They make these little chittering noises, kind of similar to a guinea pig, but a little bit louder.
01:05They can bark and honk, that can be more of an alarm, you know, dangers around.
01:10These giants of the rodent world are having a moment.
01:13I think there is an obsession and a love for capybaras.
01:17We see children loving their guinea pigs at home, and who doesn't want a bigger version of a guinea pig?
01:22All the hype about capybaras is really true. They really are just these big gentle rodents.
