00:02Today the court heard from Tasmania Police Assistant Commissioner Adrian Bodnar and he
00:08likened the Hillcrest tragedy to the Port Arthur massacre in 1996 in which 35 people
00:15lost their lives.
00:17He was a police officer who responded to that and today he spoke about how he thought that
00:22he'd been able to park a lot of those memories but after reviewing two hours of police body
00:27one camera footage from the Hillcrest tragedy a lot of those painful memories resurfaced.
00:33He said that it just went to show that the trauma carries on and he said that anything
00:39to do with children is clearly devastating.
00:42He said while the incidents were different the trauma is still the same.
00:46Assistant Commissioner Bodnar also went on to address one of the mothers during his evidence.
00:53Earlier the court heard from Georgie Burt who said she waited three days before she was
00:59able to see her son Zane Mallor and that was at the funeral home.
01:03He said that it was particularly sad that she wasn't given the same opportunity to say goodbye
01:09as other parents did and he said on behalf of Tasmania Police he offered his sincere apologies.
01:16He spent the last part of his evidence directly addressing families and saying that police officers
01:23had done all that they could to try to save the children on that day and he became, his
01:30voice cracked and he became really emotional as he apologised to them saying that he was sorry
01:37it wasn't enough and that he wished that they could have done more.
