Today’s featured work, [Festive Solitude], was written based on the core theories of the metropolitan sociologist Georg Simmel: "The Stranger" and "The Metropolis and Mental Life." Simmel analyzed that in the face of the complex stimulations of a big city, humans adopt a "Blasé" attitude—an indifference toward others—as a defense mechanism. Yet, paradoxically, individuals also feel an even more intense desire to assert their uniqueness within that anonymity. This project visualizes a subject who stands in the heart of a festival, yet maintains her own distance, refusing to be assimilated into its order.
In the video, she wears festive attire like a kimono or a cheongsam dress, but her cold gaze indicates that this festival has no relation to her actual existence. This distance is not isolation, but a "mental freedom" that allows her to observe herself most objectively. For her, this glamorous festival is not a space for communion, but a stage that makes her own aura shine even brighter.
The line "I belong to nowhere" in the lyrics is a declaration of an independent subject who defines herself amidst urban anonymity. Furthermore, the declaration "This festive solitude is solely Mine" sings of the commanding aura of a stranger who maintains her own inner peace even while standing among the crowds.
