00:00Tropical Storm Fay and Tropical Storm Gonzalo. We do have two named storms simultaneously on the map, but still no
00:06hurricanes yet this year in the Atlantic.
00:08So Fay is not going to impact any land, and this is going to be with us just for a
00:11short time, becoming more of a likely a tropical depression or tropical rainstorm soon.
00:17And it will never make it even close to Bermuda.
00:20Now, Gonzalo is going to be impacting land. Here we are very close to the African coast, and this is
00:25going to be crossing the area around the Cabo Verde Islands.
00:28And you can see this storm is moving north-northwest, and it will remain a tropical storm for a time
00:32before weakening over that cooler water off the northwest side of Africa, with a little more wind shear as well.
00:38But it's going to be crossing some islands there, bringing some impacts involving some strong wind, dealing with gusts of
00:4340 to 60 miles per hour for the Cabo Verde Islands, and also an inch or two of rain out
00:47this way.
00:48But we're going to be dealing with, again, modest impacts.
00:51A storm like this one is going to have an AccuWeather real impact scale rating for hurricanes of less than
00:55one for Cabo Verde.
00:57And that's certainly some good news.
00:58The big driver here in the Atlantic hurricane season at this point has been tremendous wind shear, and that is
01:05still the case in the main development region.
01:07So we're just kind of working the fringes here with any of these scrappy little tropical storms at this point.
01:12We've had some homegrown development. We've had a few landfalls there along the Gulf Coast.
01:16We've had a little bit of action near Africa and even maybe a little west of Portugal.
01:20But here where the most tenacious storms in at least the northern hemisphere sometimes occur, if they're not typhoons, sometimes
01:29they're hurricanes.
01:30And some of them make that long run over one to two weeks across the main development region.
01:35Just a huge roadblock right now with that wind shear, thanks to the correlation to El Nino out in the
01:41Pacific.
01:41So we've actually gone through the first column on our storm name list this year.
01:46Zero of these were hurricanes, and we're in uncharted territory among the past hundred years, even back before satellites were
01:53around to help us.
01:54We may have missed some hurricanes in the past, but no hurricanes yet this year.
01:57Low risk of any tropical rain or wind impacts.
01:59So again, no news is excellent news.
