Venerable Sumedha confronted a young monk(Venerable Sumana), complaining that his stubbornness occupied the attention of all the older monks, leaving them no time for the others. The young monk believed he received special treatment only because of his small size. He resolved to grow up quickly and learn to handle things independently. To prove his self-reliance, he decided to fetch water from a well for bathing himself. Result: This time, someone helped him fetch water, and he accepted the help that day, but firmly vowed to fetch water for bathing entirely on his own starting the next day.
