Dalat is certainly one of the most relaxing places in Vietnam. During the school holidays, we decided to take a short escape from the haze in Malaysia and made our way to Dalat, Vietnam, via Ho Chi Minh City.
After landing in HCMC, we headed straight to Starbucks at Van Hanh Mall—a really convenient meeting point close to our bus pick-up. We grabbed a quick dinner at A Priori Coffee nearby before setting off on the popular Futa sleeper bus. Known for its speed and efficiency, it got us up to the mountains smoothly.
We had arranged a transfer to Tiệm cà phê Vùng Ngoại Ô to catch the sunrise, but unfortunately, the experience was far from pleasant. The staff seemed frustrated and unfriendly, and the drinks tasted like a cheap powdered mix—honestly feeling more like a tourist trap. The only bright spot was a kind elderly uncle who helped with our luggage (though we sadly learned he had just resigned).
Luckily, things turned completely around when we arrived at Goldient Boutique Hotel. After diving into an amazing buffet breakfast and exploring their gorgeous heated pool and massive backyard garden, we spent the afternoon relaxing, enjoying their complimentary tea time, and admiring the stunning local orchids.
Heading out for an early dinner, we stopped for steamed tofu at HearTFood Tậu hũ hấp muối tiêu rau răm, followed by tasty bites at Bánh Căn Cô Thương. As we made our way to Lâm Viên Square, it started to rain, so we ducked into the iconic artichoke-bud-shaped Highlands Coffee for shelter.
Once the rain cleared, we walked along the beautiful Xuân Hương Lake to the vibrant Dalat Night Market. We browsed the indoor Central Market and Dalat Center, shopped for clothes, picked up local souvenirs at Langfarm, and grabbed some roadside trứng vịt lộn (balut) from a local vendor. To top it all off, we stumbled upon a free live concert celebrating Vietnam's National Day!
Walking back up Dalat’s famous staircase to our Grab pick-up point, it hit me : what started as a rough morning turned into an unforgettable day. It really shows how much customer service and human connection matter—one bad vibe can be saved by a cozy stay and great hospitality.
Our first day in Dalat was a perfect mix of relaxation, food, rain, night markets, and unexpected discoveries. We couldn’t wait to see what Day 2 had in store!
