Women’s hurdles can turn into pure drama in a matter of seconds, and these three moments prove just how intense the event really is. From Kendra Harrison’s comeback after missing the U.S. Olympic team, to Tobi Amusan smashing the women’s hurdles world record twice in one day, to Abigail Dennis fighting back after crashing over the first two hurdles, this is track and field at its most unforgettable.

Kendra Harrison returned with something to prove and was initially shown with a 12.58 performance before officials reviewed the race and confirmed a much faster world-record time of 12.20. Years later, Tobi Amusan powered through the World Athletics Championships in a record-breaking 12.12, then ran 12.06 in the final before wind review affected the official status of the second mark. Abigail Dennis closed the story with a different kind of heroics, recovering from a brutal stumble and still charging back to win her county championships final in New Jersey.

For fans of women’s hurdles, track and field highlights, sports storytelling, and comeback moments, this narration captures the pressure, controversy, and determination behind elite sprint hurdling. 00:00From making a comeback after tripping over the first two hurdles to smashing through
00:04the world record twice in one day. These are three of the most intense moments of women's
00:09hurdles starting with the time Kendra Harrison beat the world record and had no idea. Two weeks
00:14before this race Kendra had failed to qualify for the US Olympic team after coming in sixth place
00:20at the qualifiers. Kendra in lane two. She's not even close. Brianna Rollins wins it at the time
00:26of 12.34 Kendra finishes sixth with the time of 12.62. It was surprising given that at the time
00:34Kendra's personal best was 12.24 the second fastest time ever run closely behind the world record of
00:4112.21 set 28 years earlier in 1988. Kendra was back for revenge two weeks later at the Diamond League
00:49in London. She was up against the three Americans that had beaten her two weeks prior so she was
00:54going out there with something to prove. Kendra told USA Today not making the Olympic team
01:00I was really upset. I was coming out here with just vengeance to show these girls what I have
01:05and that she did. Another really good start from Kenny Harrison fourth from left. She was already in
01:10the lead. Talaya's going well third from right there. Oh there's been a fall out there. I think it was
01:14stout but look at Kenny Harrison storming away with this and look at the margin of victory. Watch the clock
01:1912.58 there for Kenny Harrison. But her time wasn't as good as it could have been. It was only
01:23barely better
01:24than her time two weeks prior. Well that was strange the clock seemed to run on and on long after
01:29she'd
01:29gone through the line. I'd rather fancy it was quicker. Kendra had ducked under the timing beam
01:34as she crossed the finish line and the clock hadn't stopped until the second runner crossed the line.
01:39Kendra's time was faster than 12.58 much faster. When the officials reviewed the time the figures on the
01:46screen reset.
01:58She broke the women's record that had stood for 28 years. But her record didn't last as long as just
02:05six years later in
02:062022, Toby Amison from Nigeria would destroy Kendra's record twice in one day. In the semi-finals at the world
02:15athletics championships, Toby powered ahead of all the other runners and smashed through the women's
02:20record setting a time of 12.12 and obliterating Kendra's world record of 12.20. But this race had
02:28its own bit of controversy. In the same race that Toby ran her world record, five of the eight runners
02:34also ran personal bests. Some commentators in the space shared concerns that the wind speed wasn't
02:40accounted for correctly. Or that there were some accuracy issues with the race clock. There were even
02:45experts speculating that Toby's Adidas shoes somehow gave her an unfair advantage. Despite the shoes
02:52being perfectly race legal and unmodified. These concerns became even louder when in the finals on the
02:58same day, Toby rocketed to the finish line and smashed the record once more. Running a 12.06.
03:05Look at the clock! I cannot believe it! A full 0.14 seconds faster than the world record which
03:12stood just one day earlier. After reviewing the wind reading, Toby's second time was judged not to be
03:18world record legal. But her first time? That is a massive, massive world record!
03:25She's looking at the clock to see if it was a mistake! But it wasn't! It's been confirmed!
03:31There were no errors with the clock, no unaccounted for wind speeds and no magic shoes. The conditions
03:37were perfect that day and Toby really was just that fast. But it doesn't matter how fast you are,
03:45if you trip over a hurdle and face plant on the ground there's no coming back from that. Unless
03:49you're Abigail Dennis. Abigail had made it to the finals of the county championships in New Jersey and
03:54she had qualified with the second fastest time out of all the competitors. She knew she had a chance at
04:00winning but it wasn't going to be easy. She lined up, the starter pistol fired and she launched herself
04:05off the starting line. However, disaster struck as she stumbled on the first hurdle and then
04:10completely tumbled over the second. Most runners would give up at that point, just stand up and walk
04:15back to their coach with embarrassment. But that's not what Abigail did. She picked herself up and set
04:20off back down the track, getting a stride back and powering over the hurdles on a mission. Her parents
04:26cheered her on as she clawed her way back to the front, eventually crossing the finish line in first place.
