00:04First of all, I wanted to go back to Sunday's game.
00:07He was asked about, like, three penalties.
00:10The chase on, you know, unnecessary roughness hit on Shahid.
00:15On the play that Medrano almost had Darnold wrapped up for a sack.
00:18Darnold escaped, threw it downfield.
00:22And I thought that was a textbook, this is how you teach it.
00:26But the pool reporter, Nicky Javala, asked the head referee, Carl Cheffers,
00:31and Cheffers said he launched himself.
00:34It doesn't matter if he hits the neck or the head.
00:37If he launches himself against a defenseless receiver, it's unnecessary roughness.
00:43This was Quinn on that, but Quinn also weighed in on the illegal formation penalty
00:51on Antonio Williams that cost them the 48-yard touchdown run by Bill.
00:56And the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on, as we know now, Frankie Louvoo
01:02after the pick six by Medrano.
01:04This was Quinn on all three of those penalties.
01:09Dan, three penalties we didn't get to yesterday.
01:13One, the chase on along the sidelines.
01:16It looked like it might have been a good hit.
01:18And two, the formation that Bill touched on run, called back.
01:23And then what happened with the set of liberation that made you force a 48-yard extra point?
01:29Yep, I can hit all of them.
01:31Let's start with Caleb Baum on the sideline.
01:35Looking back up from the TV copy, it certainly felt like a hit that was in the strike zone.
01:39And that's what we're aiming for on the sideline.
01:42And so catch, not a catch, sideline to go.
01:45But I liked, after the quarterback got outside the pocket, Caleb Baum finishing the play on the sideline.
01:52So I wanted to look back at it, but I felt like we're trying to coach, you know, like strike
01:57zone hitting.
01:57And I felt like it was into that location.
01:59It was a tough hit, no doubt about it, Barry.
02:01But I thought it was a clean hit.
02:02It wasn't anything, you know, that felt like rose to the level of that for me.
02:08But that's their interpretation.
02:09I know things are moving at full speed.
02:12It's a hell of a lot different than, you know, when we're doing it frame by frame.
02:15But that was my look at it when I was watching the copy.
02:19Second one, after the shift on Bill's run, we started, as you remember, like in an empty formation, come back
02:25into it.
02:25So the receiver has to step on the line in that instance.
02:28It was a good check by Marcus based on a certain look.
02:32To see if we could get on to the edge.
02:34And so that was a missed opportunity for us.
02:37And then the third one was a, I guess, you know, unsportsmanlike celebration.
02:44So it was a player on the field that was not in uniform.
02:48So, which resulted in the 48-yard extra point and miss of that.
02:53You can imagine my thrill with that.
02:56So we had a good discussion about that in the meeting today.
02:59And I love the energy our team brings.
03:04And it was like definitely a team win.
03:05And I felt every bit of that, Barry.
03:07And our team does.
03:08But those are ones that like, not Kayla Vaughn's, but the other two.
03:13Those are in our control.
03:14And let's get those done.

03:17Let's get those done.
03:18Meaning let's not let those happen again.
03:20Real quickly on the Antonio Williams illegal formation penalty.
03:25I went back and looked at it because I said yesterday during my recap, like, that there is a possibility
03:32or an opportunity for a veteran quarterback, Marcus Mariota, to make sure that the rookie receiver, after he checks out
03:40of the empty set, brings Bill back into the backfield to make sure that his right tackle, Josh Connerly, is
03:46covered up by a receiver.
03:47He's got to take that step up to the line of scrimmage.
03:50And then you'll see receivers often, they'll turn to the side judge and say, am I good?
03:54And the side judge will say, yeah, you're good.
03:56The right tackle is covered up.
03:58Right?
04:00There were only three seconds left when Bill got to the backfield on the play clock.
04:05So it would have been tough for Marcus to identify it, communicate it to Antonio Williams, and then get the
04:13playoff in time.
04:14So that's just on Antonio Williams.
04:17I mean, he's a rookie, but he's in the NFL and he's got to know the rule and he's got
04:22to step up and he didn't.
04:23And it cost him a 14-0 lead early in the game.
04:26You know, I was thinking about, can you imagine 14-0 Seattle at home the last time that happened, January
04:332013 playoff game.
04:3614-0 lead evaporated, though, into one of the most infamous games in franchise history.
04:44The one that will be featured one day in a 30-for-30 on RG3.
04:50Okay, so, look, you know, he addressed the team on the unsportsmanlike conduct.
04:57I've already talked about this.
04:59This would have been the story of the week if they had lost the game 34-33.
05:03And there would have been cries for Quinn's head.
05:07Because it would have been received, perceived, as a team that's undisciplined.
05:16You know, from Diggs hugging the goalpost in Philly to Frankie Louvoo running out onto the field and taunting Sam
05:23Darnold to draw a 15-yard penalty.
05:26I think that's what, it was reported that that's what he was doing.
05:30He was celebrating the pick six and, I guess, pointed at Sam Darnold as well.
05:36Or the Seattle bench.
05:38They flagged him for it.
05:39Of course, that's a flag.
05:41And the ensuing extra point was missed.
05:45Seattle comes back to win that game 34-33.
05:47You lose by a point that you couldn't convert.
05:52And, by the way, Stevens still has to convert the 48-yard extra point.
05:55Okay?
05:56I know the weather wasn't great.
05:57I know that there was some wind on Sunday with the nor'easter, the whole thing.
06:01You've got to convert 48-yard kicks, whether they're field goals or extra points after penalties.
06:06Just got to do it in this league.
06:08But can you, Matt, I mean, thank God we're where we are today.
06:12Like, that conversation would have been really hard.
06:160-3, 34-33 loss.
06:19Quinn, who is a phenomenal culture guy.
06:22They've got a good culture.
06:23But all of the talk would have been about the lack of, you know, institutional control.
06:29I'm kidding.
06:30But the lack of discipline on that play.
06:33All right, this was Quinn talking about something I also was interested in.
06:40You know, the amount of control that apparently the quarterbacks have at the line of scrimmage this year.
06:46We've seen it with Jaden in the Philadelphia game and in the first half of the Dallas game.
06:50And we saw Marcus, it was one of the reasons I thought Marcus had, forget the statistics, which showed a
06:58nice game, not a great game.
07:00But really, what he was in control of at the line of scrimmage was so impactful to the final result
07:08of the game.
07:09There were four to five plays he clearly checked out of.
07:12And all of those plays turned into successful plays.
07:16You know, it doesn't mean the first one was a terrible play, but it means that the second one that
07:20he canned to was a better play.
07:23And a veteran with the poise and an understanding and a week's worth of practice and a game plan against
07:30a really good defense,
07:31Quinn was asked about Mariota altering plays and having that ability to do what he did at the line of
07:38scrimmage.

07:43Hey, Dan.
07:43Ben, with Marcus, just looking at the game footage and then hearing a little bit about what happened after the
07:50game,
07:50it seemed like he was, if audibly is the right term, but he seemed to be, you know,
07:56seeing what was going on and making some changes at the line.
07:58How much is that, if it was occurring, and how much is that him being the veteran that he is
08:02and seeing something and changing out of it?
08:04A little bit of both, Ben.
08:05And you're accurate on that assessment of him putting into some good plays to go, including the third and nine
08:11play for Rashad White.
08:13And so here's a look to get into it.
08:15And so that's part of our system, you know, where they have the ability at the line of scrimmage to
08:21get into some calls.
08:22But you're accurate that, like he and David, we're very in sync in terms of best plays, best location to
08:28go hit on some.
08:29And like I said, this is a tough front that makes it hard to get the ball run in some
08:34scenarios.
08:34So to have some spaces at the end to get that done, that's a big deal.

08:40Really, really good job by Mariota on Sunday from that perspective.
08:45And Jaden did some of the same things in Dallas as well in the first half.
