00:18might grow experts have now identified that not all black holes consume matter at the same rates
00:22in fact oftentimes more actively accreting black holes are more active eaters and researchers have
00:27also found that an active galactic nucleus or one theorized to be a black hole at the center of a
00:32galaxy can impact star formation by either promoting or quenching starburst activity which
00:37they're not really sure what role that process plays in the enlargement of black holes but it's
00:41something they're investigating but experts are also looking at the relativistic jets that are
00:45often ejected from the poles of supermassive black holes as well these jets fire off at speeds close
00:50to the speed of light and understanding how and why they form especially since accretion rates and
00:55black hole consumption rates don't seem to matter could hold a key in understanding how they grow
00:59in the first place getting us one step closer to understanding how black holes grow from only a
01:03couple of times the size of our sun into supermassive black holes a few billion times that size
