00:00Two police corporals from the Bukit Aman Traffic Department have pleaded not guilty to soliciting and accepting bribes.
00:08Muhammad Zulkairi Zakaria, aged 39, and Yaqub Yusof, aged 42,
00:13entered their pleas in the Melaka Sessions Court on Wednesday before Judge Muhammad Kamil Nizam.
00:19Under the first charge, they are accused of corruptly soliciting RM2,000 from two 23-year-old men.
00:27The money was allegedly an inducement not to conduct urine screening tests on the men,
00:33who were suspected of an offence under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
00:38The prosecution alleges this happened between 1.30am and 2.00am on January 5 along Jalan Simpang Ampat in Alurgajah.
00:48Under the second charge, they are accused of accepting RM2,000 in cash from the same individuals for not conducting
00:55the tests.
00:57That allegedly took place at about 2.45am the same day at the Ayakaroh rest and service area northbound on
01:05the North-South Expressway.
01:07Both are charged under Section 16A-B of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
01:14If convicted, they face up to 20 years in jail and a fine of at least five times the value
01:20of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
01:24The court set bail at RM8,000 each with one surety and ordered both accused to report to the MACC
01:32office and not interfere with prosecution witnesses.
01:35The case will be mentioned again on November 11th.
